Hughes in America.

Very different from the previous books by Declan Hughes I've read. If you can suspend your disbelief at the coincidences necessary to make the storyline work, this venture into the disrupted lives of a seemingly ordinary American family has a lot going for it. Beautifully read it has more twists and surprises than is decent, well developed characters and an underlying ever present tension line that kept me listening well after my usual bedtime.

I had to restart a few times. Couldn't get into it but kept trying. Scattered and boring.

Horrible narration.

The story is intriguing but I don't know if I can finish listening. The narrator is not very skilled at distinguishing voices. His Belfast accent is even worse than Tommy Lee Jones's, difficult as that is to imagine. But the book instead.

Exciting Crime Thriller

What did you love best about Price of Justice?

It is cleverly written, with believable characters and great attention to detail. The author has made full use of his in-depth experience in both police and law departments, to write a brilliant crime thriller.

When Scarsdale and his partner, Sean Harris of the Austin Police Departments, Sex Crimes Division are instructed to investigate a child molestation, they soon realize the case is far more involved than first appears. Their investigations lead them deep into a paedophile ring, whose tentacles reach far and wide, with repercussions which will affect them in ways they never could have foreseen.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Detective Jason Scarsdale. Being haunted by the loss of his wife I felt for him right away especially since he blames himself. When Jason becomes friendly with co-worker Dani Mueller he doesnt realize that she has her own hidden secrets which will affect his life more than he could have ever imagined, he has been through so much and yet still there are so many twists and turns...

What about Bob Dunsworths performance did you like?

I thought Bob Dunsworth, the narrators voice was perfect for the story and he bought the characters in this exciting crime thriller alive brilliantly.

I thought this would be a good crime book but it turned out to be an exercise into how many times I would hear the word c..t etc. Characters are extreme - from saintliness to absolute brutality, completely unbelievable

predictable story line that went on and on.....I wouldn't recommend to anyone. narrator fine - my issue was with the overall story plot.

no depth to the story. the narrative was absolutely awful. She made all the characters sound old. It took away from the already poor story. I'm just glad I didn't pay for it.

I found it a bit repetitive, one of the reviewers mentioned Groundhog Day, I think that was a good description. Not sure what she could do to make it more enjoyable, more depth to the characters, so I cared more about them.

I liked the narrator, I think she did an excellent job.

What did you like best about The Good Life? What did you like least?

I really wanted to like this book as I had heard so much about it. However, it took some time to get used to the writing style and although I know it is about gangland crime I found the swearing to be totally excessive. Every second word was peppered with an 'F' this and 'C' that. Having said that, Martina Cole is a highly entertaining author and her books bring you on quite a journey. This is the second book I have read by Martina Cole, because I wanted to give her writing another chance, however it will be the last. Perhaps that's down to my own personal taste as there is a huge market for this sort of writing in the UK.
