A great adventure

Dodge is back for a new adventure and it might possibly be better than his first. Dodge, Molly, Hurricane and Padre are thrust into a whirlwind race against time to save the world, will they success? Can they? And at what cost? Some interesting new characters are introduced and as always you are kept guessing as to who is friend or foe. Jeffrey S. Fellin does a remarkable job of bringing the world of Dodge Dalton to life, grabbing the listeners attention and not letting go until the end. His performance of the different characters is impressive, with just slight variations to his tone he can change the whole feel of the situation. Definitely going on the repeat listen pile.

Well, it is only a teen horror after all I guess

Okay positives first and there are one or two. It has atmosphere and drama. It's got pace and the naration is fairly good though there are some issues with production where some words seem to fade out rather than actually finish. However, gramatically the book is lazy but then, if you get published and people call you a great writer which you're not who really cares about that? The plot however should come in for criticism since there are parts of it which are implausible and mostly it's predictable with a really lame ending. I sussed it from way back but then, it is only a teen horror after all and for teenagers not as well red as me it would be a great read.

A mediocre read, perhaps a bit held back by its context

I went into this with high expectations, having had the novel recommended to me by another horror fan. I was unfortunately disappointed. Although the audiobook presents an adequate performance, I was not impressed with the story. I have read almost everything the genre of horror fiction has to offer, from the subtle to the grotesque, and I guess I was hoping for more. But I assume that's the problem when one reads a lotmy expectations have now been raised to the point where not just any story will satisfy me. This is not to claim any kind if horror snobbery. I like the standard Stephen King novel as much as the next guy (though I do have a problem with Dean Koontz.) I guess I was expecting something more along the lines of Thomas Ligotti. Oh well.

You did it....don't take out the ouija board!

A group of paranormal investigators decide to invent a ghost to see if it actually works. Once they bring out the ouija board everything goes wrong and it's not just their ghost they welcome in.

This had a great wee Back to the Future 'what do you do if you meet yourself?' thing going on, and despite it being really scary at points, it was quite sad too.

Gripping but not entirely plausible

I don't necessarily expect to find this type of fiction wholly realistic, and in this case that is just as well. On the plus side, this is a genuine page turner and I found myself making excuses to hide a way and listen to the next chapter. Zach is a brilliant character and the slow reveal of the true nature of his personality is enthralling. I was less enchanted with Lizzie whose passive aggressive personality seemed to be more of a plot device than a portrayal of a real person. I also thought her relationship with Anya was way beyond convincing and her reaction to one particular revelation was frankly ridiculous. The tightly written plot was the thing that kept me going to the end but I was disappointed that the ending revealed many red herrings in the plot, and this made me feel that the whole thing was not nearly as clever as it originally appeared. The performance of both narrators was excellent, even down to Anyas squirmy teenage voice.

Brilliant!

Having read the first review I almost didn't listen to this book as the voice of the narrator is so important to me, but I'm glad I made my own mind up! Yes, Lizzie's voice is girly, but, it's a well modulated British RP accent and fitted very well with a shy, insecure librarian so appropriate in my view. She also did the male voices very well. Zach's voice was also very easy to listen to, so no problem there. If I had purchased this in paper form, I would describe it as a page turner, however as I only listen to books these days I will have to find another accolade. A compulsive listen maybe? Give it a go, I'm confident most of you will be glad you did, even if it does put you off internet dating for life! Let's face it...if you don't enjoy it as much as clearly have, then there is always the guarantee of returning it so you won't waste a credit if it's not for you! :-)

Creepy story of obsessive love

The book starts very well and really gripped my attention as diffident librarian, Lizzie Carter, meets handsome Zach through internet dating. Soon his obsessive, compulsive behaviour starts alarm bells ringing, in my mind at least, if not Lizzies. She puts up with physical and mental abuse that beggars belief in those of us who havent suffered this trauma, but womens refuges apparently see it all the time.

The writing is set at a breakneck pace that playfully drags you along for the ride. David Khara will leave you shaking your head and pulling your jaw up off the ground as you immerse yourself into his lightening paced thrill ride that will have you awestruck long after itâs over.

The Bleiberg Project starts off by introducing us to the main character Jay Novacek who is a brilliant financial trader. At a very young age, he has already made his fortune several times over, but money canât replace love or heal a broken heart. His present problems only get worse as both of his parents are mysteriously killed. Basically, thrillers are written to formula i.e. young couple on a quest of some kind , always outwitted by the bad guys until the very end, high body count including even some valued sidekicks. So, how did the author, David Khara do with the Bleiberg Project?

Superbly! I raced through the story and was disappointed to find myself with only a little more to read.

Kahn Does It Again

Every book by Michael Kahn reminds me of a great date-- fresh, exciting, surprising, not wanting it to end. Why he isn't rich and famous escapes me. FACE VALUE is his ninth book, and it's another page turner. Rachel Goldberg stumbling on a suicide that isn't a suicide, compiling a list of potential suspects, finding pecadillos in each of them, and then pricking the biggest balloon in the bunch. The good characters always win out, but not before they seem flummoxed and making wrong turns that turn out right. Kahn, a leading member of the Bar in St. Louis, shows his substantive knowledge of the law with a light touch; he shows his knowledge of St. Louis with a great sense of setting, and he twists his plot with drama and comedy-- all to the benefit of a very grateful reader.

A friend returns

I have been reading this author for many years. He is so clear i in drawing his characters, making them and believable. Even though had read this book before I really loved being reconnected with them.

Rachel needs to recover her sense of humor. In a previous Rachel Gold book, Rachel's description of In Re Bottles and Cans, a tangled up anti-trust lawsuit had me laughing out loud. Face Value lacks that biting humor and Rachel is less pleasant, having evolved into a tough cookie. While Rachel's old friend Benny and her law partner Jackie appear in Face Value, they seem merely to have been trotted out and have lost the freshness these characters once had. That having been said, I am still an avid fan of Rachel Gold and couldn't put Face Value down.

Michael Kahn did it again!

He crates believable characters, his plotting is brilliant and one more time Rachel is terrific.

We have followed Sara thru college, medical school, residency, corrupt politicians, Murdering Professors, and The Mob. Her marriage and three children, one with her same gifts and through all of this she has stayed strong.

Dream Family brings out a new side to Sara after she is locked up for something she didn't do. It made me very emotional reading it.

this is book 4 in the series, and they do need to be read in order for better understanding. In this installment we follow them raising their three children and also a new struggle as soon as the new doctors office opens. we follow them on that struggled for most of the book it almost seemed overdone with all the flashbacks and trauma that was left.

Read but don't listen to Peri Minneopa books!

What did you like best about The Hot Mess? What did you like least?

I will start with the least liked... the narrator! Benny's unusual personality reminded me of some patients I had as a nurse years ago whose quirkiness I enjoyed. Benny was what/who I liked best. Actually, the writing was very good, only 2 characters, Benny and Peri, had any personality to develop since they were the only characters who it was necessary to convey who they were related to the plot. I thought the relationship between Peri and Skip was totally unbelievable due to the narrator's total inability to speak like an adult either male or female.

I like the ending of the book related to Peri and Benny.

If youve listened to books by Gayle Carline before, how does this one compare?

This was my first Gayle Carline book. I won't pay for any audible books, regardless of the author, or how good the reviews are if they have this narrator. I will read the printed copy of any subsequent Peri Minneopa books but Benny will not be as enjoyable without a voice. I like the author's work. I kept listening because I paid for the audible version.

What didnt you like about Wendy Pittss performance?

Wendy Pitts's voice and reading sound like she is reading a 2nd-grade primer. Her voice is too young to fit Peri's character, actually, it didn't fit any of the characters she was portraying not just in the voices but the way she does non-speaking passages! In perhaps 10 years the narrator's voice will sound adult enough to narrate an adult book. I apologize to the narrator for being so critical but an audible version of any book needs to be done well for a listener to appreciate the author's work. In my opinion, the narrator's voice and manner of reading would be acceptable for teenage or youth books.

Do you think The Hot Mess needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Since I enjoy audible books a follow-up Peri Minneopa book is not necessary for me if it has the same narrator! I loved Benny's quirky character, his obsession with Dean Martin and Peri's way of handling Benny so, yes, I want more follow-up books TO READ. But only if Benny is present. I am not sure if Benny would be so enjoyable in a read-only version.
