    Publisher's Summary:
A series of child abductions in Peru leads an FBI agent and an archaeologist to uncover the ultimate secret of the Inca Empire.
On a Peruvian Andes mountaintop, archaeology professor Nina Ramirez and her students make two stunning discoveries: The five-hundred-year-old mummy of an Inca girl, the victim of ritual sacrifice, and in another grave, the corpse of a recently kidnapped boy wearing the same ancient costume. Child abductions are being reported throughout Peru, and when an American boy is snatched in Lima, FBI agent Adam Palma is assigned to the case.
At the home of a manic artist who was the sole survivor of similar kidnappings in 1962, Adam is shown a disturbing mural depicting the Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro. In the painting, the conquistadors face looks exactly like his own. Adam teams up with Nina, and with the help of a mysterious boy named Quiso, their investigation takes them deep into the Amazon jungle in a search of a lost city of the Incas, where the ancient sacrificial rituals may still be alive. As Quiso leads Nina and Adam closer to the city and its secrets, Adam realizes that the only way to save the kidnapped children is to make the past repeat itself. Adam, like his distant ancestor Pizarro, must square off against an Inca high priest.

Mystery, History, Archeology and Romance. Who Could Ask for More
I think my title, Mystery, History, Archeology and Romance really sums this book up. It is riveting. I always read reviews that say "I couldn't put it down" and never quite believe it. Well this is one I stayed up until 4 a.m., got a few hours sleep and trundled off to work with Inca themes playing themselves out in my head. It also convinced me that my next vacation is in Peru.
'Brilliant' and 'exciting' are the first words that pop into my head as I read this book. Not only is it a stimulating and often terrifying mystery but it is ingeniously set in both modern day and historic Peru. In a sense it is time travel, taking its characters back 600 years to discover Vilcabamba, the "Lost city of the Incas" that archeologists dream of finding. And it includes a cleverly plotted love story between an Hispanic FBI agent and a Peruvian forensic archaeologist. I like that the author also provides so much information about the Inca Empire; its history, culture and eventual destruction by the Spanish Conquistadors. Elias skillfully makes the information fun and not didactic. One of the things that impressed me is that Elias has kept Howard Zinn's idea alive - tell the history of a people not by those who conquered them (as most of history is written) but from the point of view of those who were vanquished and destroyed, the Inca civilization.
It's a great beach read but also aspires and reaches literary merit. Elias is a screenwriter and he keeps it moving. If this is his first novel I can't wait for the second.
A Peruvian Archeologist, an American FBI agent and Inca Indians, Amazing story
What a great story. What could an archeologist, an FBI agent, a lost Inca Indian tribe and a Drug Lord have in common? A great novel, that's what.
Our story starts with Nina a Peruvian archeologist who is taking a group of students on a dig to what they hope is an Inca Burial site. What they discover is a site where the Inca Indians sacrificed one of their children to the gods.

Much more than I expected from a short story
I really enjoyed this book. For a short book usually you don't get a good plot and get to know the characters too but Ashley Fontainne pulled it off. When I was done I felt like I had read a full length book because of all the detail that went into it. I should have started off with the fact that the book gets right into the thick of it right away, which I loved, no waiting for things to get going. It kept my interested from start to finish. Great read!
    Tasty Tidbit
I can't say I was surprised by any of the twisty turns this story took, but it was well put together and well read, making it an enjoyable short listen to while away a couple of hours. I liked the feisty heroine with her never-say-die (literally) attitude.
    Scary to say the least
I received this audio book in exchange for honest review
This is really a nightmare come true but, what a great story. It was suspenseful and exiting and I couldn't stop listening. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who loves a good revenge story. The narrator was excellent and did a great job submerging you into the story.
    SWEET REVENGE
Such a unique story of love online. Was absolutely captivated by Mandy's story~told mainly through her thoughts and feelings. Started listening and could not stop until the end, loving the surprising twists. Sabrina Stewart absolutely nailed the narration with her southern drawl (which I really enjoyed, as I went to school in Kentucky). "Momma didn't raise no fool" is so true of Mandy. Highly recommended...
Audiobook provided for an honest review.
    Powerhouse
What made the experience of listening to Number Seventy-Five the most enjoyable?
Wow! My entire experience of listening to this book was lingering for the next turn. I was completely enthralled throughout the entire listen. Guiltless revenge. Going through the process of Mandy's thoughts and feelings were intense as to how she showed her conscious side yet subtly and powerfully recalled the reasons she was brought to no other conclusion. It was beautifully written and well thought out and executed perfectly by the narrator. And I received the audiobook free of charge in exchange for an unbiased review.
What other book might you compare Number Seventy-Five to and why?
This book stands on its own merit. I don't know of any other book I would compare it to. Its's its own entity.
What about Sabrina Stewarts performance did you like?
Sabrina Stewart owned this. She executed Mandy so perfectly.

    Supernatural element makes the story
I bought this having bought the first in the series and really enjoyed the story and especially the supernatural elements. It kind of reminds me of Stuart MacBrides Logan McRae although not as vivid. I enjoy the character of Tony and supporting characters. The next book has not been released yet and there are some loose ends not tied up so hopefully they will be cleared I will definitely be getting the next book and would really recommend the series.
I felt the narrator was very clear and did not distract from the story.
Creepier and More Sinister . . . In A Good Way!
It was always going to be a big test for James Oswald to follow up on the excellent opener to this series. It's one I think he passes with flying colours and he doesn't pull any punches with another hard-hitting novel. This one puts a slightly higher emphasis on the supernatural element. Fortunately he doesn't make the mistake of neglecting his well rounded characters which were such a strong element of the first book. They are further developed and the lead is put under some intolerable pressure, hounded at every step of course by his less than perfect boss, Dagwood.
What brings these books up to five star status though is the narration by Ian Hanmore, he and Oswald are a marriage made in heaven. Hanmore's cultured Scottish accent literally purrs through descriptive text, chills to the bone when required and yet raises itself handily for some of the lighter moments.
So, an author and a narrator both of whom are well worth watching out for have created a genuinely immersive audiobook experience!
One strong recommendation on this series would be to read them in order. I think you could enjoy them individually but enough of the storyline is continuous to make it worth starting at the beginning.
    Bravo Messrs Oswald and Hanmore!
    Good series
I enjoyed this book where we are reunited with Inspector McLean and his team. The narration by Ian Hanmore is quietly hypnotic and draws you right in.
There are more grim murders and without giving anything away several novel twists with a paranormal spin.
The reason I gave this 4 instead of 5 stars overall was that I felt that the plot was slightly samey in one or two places however this did not stop my enjoyment of what is becoming a good series.
    Fantastic follow up
If you could sum up The Book of Souls in three words, what would they be?
    Gripping, intriguing and exciting.
What did you like best about this story?
As usual Mr Oswalds talent for writing shines through again.

    Publisher's Summary:
In dark, wintry Lochdubh, Christmas Cheer is about as welcome as a flat tyre on a deserted road. The Calvinist element in town has always resisted what they view as secular frivolity, so for most of the townsfolk there'll be no carols, feasting, gifts - or even whisky on Christmas Day! And for PC Hamish Macbeth there's no holiday from crime - he finds himself hunting for a missing cat belonging to a lonely spinster.
Curt and unfriendly, the woman is convinced her pet has been stolen but once behind her heavily-bolted door, Hamish can spot her true problem - she lives in fear, though of who or what he cannot guess. Then someone steals a Christmas tree and lights from the nearby village of Cnothan. So it is up to Hamish to sort all these problems out and he had better do it quickly, for the church bells will soon peal on the eve of Christmas.
    M. C. Beaton worked as a Fleet Street journalist. She is the author of the Agatha Raisin novels, the Hamish Macbeth series and an Edwardian murder-mystery series. She divides her time between Paris and the Cotswolds, where she lives in a village very much like Agatha Raisins beloved Carsely.

    Nice, gooey Christmas listen
What did you like best about A Highland Christmas? What did you like least?
It was a gentle story, set in a fictional area of the Highlands. If you're looking for the polar opposite of "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" this is it.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
It was a bit sentimental at times.
    A Christmassy escape!
A total pleasure to listen. Excellent narrator, bringing the characters to life, in particular Hamish Macbeth. The story is nothing startling but gentle and enjoyable. I'd definitely recommend for a few hours escape.
    Seasonal mood setter
A story with lots of Christmas elements there is a tree and presents and an elderly character of scrounge like characteristics is shown to have a different side when given the company of a little girl who is lonely of course for some characters things do not go according to plan ! Will get you in a seasonal mood or simply act as a cheering tale if you are feeling a bit low.
    Ideal Christmas listening.
Well read story set in Scotland very pleasant and light. Great to listen to when you wrap presents. Accents all good. One reader who captures the different characters well (apart from the NY girlfriend. )
    Excellent Christmas episode
A little expensive for the length but lovely little story. The plot was just complicated eniugh, the annoying Priscilla was just a disembodied voice and the mystery of Lugs was solved. Really enjoyed it.

    Disappointing
I purchased this based on the great reviews (4.5 stars out of 23 reviews) but I was very disappointed. The story itself was okay, but the writing was flat and the characters were bland and boring. After just a few chapters I was unable to keep reading; instead, I just did a quick (very quick) skim through the book so I could follow the story and see how it ended. Normally I would have gotten a sample sent to my Kindle first, and that would've been enough for me to know I didn't like it. But the price was low and the reviews were good so I just bought it without sampling first. I'm glad I didn't pay much. I don't think I'd purchase another book from this author.
    Missing Child
I am a big Patricia McDonald fan and make it a point to read every new novel she writes. I definitely enjoyed her latest book, although there have been others I've enjoyed more. That said it did keep me guessing until the very end, even after I was certain I had it figured out. All in all I found it a good enough read to pass on to one of my children in hopes that she'll discover a new author that she too will enjoy!
    Great book
I really enjoyed this book. There were many twists & turns that kept me guessing till the end. I recommend this book to anyone who likes a good mystery.
Great read, highly recommend for suspense loving readers.
I couldn't seem to put it down once i started, and the main character was likeable, despite some moral flaws.
    I liked it
I have read nearly every other book by this author except for her last few. Most I have always liked, with only one or two that I didn't. I really liked this book, except for the ending. I won't spoil it, but I really didn't care for the reason for the kidnapping.
The book starts out really well and moves along at a very nice pace. The author does a good job of keeping the pace and making you want to keep reading to find out what is going on and ramping up the suspense. Lots of twists and turns and I do recommend this book except for the ending.

    Release date: 06-06-13
    Publisher: Audible Studios
Ratings: 3.5 of 5 out of 2 votes
    Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Suspense
    Publisher's Summary:
Readers of The Emerald of Catherine the Great will not have to be told that Mr. Belloc's mystery stories are written with suavity and originality and an eye for piquant situations. This new mystery tale is the story of Rackham Catchings, a manor house in Sussex belonging to an amiable but improvident squire, which in payment of a debt has come into the possession of his brother. How the squire's son, John, is forced to earn his living as a ventriloquist in the music halls, how ventriloquism plus a headless ghost sends the household into a frenzy of excitement and fear, and how John succeeds in recovering his home and winning the girl he loves make a constantly unexpected and unusual story.
Hilaire Belloc (1870- 1953) was born in La Celle-Saint-Cloud, France, and raised in England. Educated in Birmingham before voluntarily serving his military term of service in France, Belloc then returned to England to study History at Baliol College, Oxford where he graduated with a First class degree. Writing on everything from poetry to war and travel in between, Belloc has been called one of the Big Four of Edwardian Letters, along with H.G.Wells, George Bernard Shaw, and G. K. Chesterton, all of whom debated each other into the 1930s. Belloc was closely associated with Chesterton, and Shaw coined the term Chesterbelloc for their partnership. A deeply religious Catholic, Belloc wrote considerably about his faith, and throughout his literary career he was concerned with the problems of social reform. He was a political activist and an MP for Salford from 1906 to 1910 for the Liberal party, and his written non-fiction work criticized both capitalism and aspects of socialism.

We love mysteries and love Belloc so we thought it would ...
Sadly, this never worked for us so we can't comment on the story. We love mysteries and love Belloc so we thought it would be a winning combination but will never know.
    First-rate novel
Such an amazing novel and a wonderful ending. The story is worth reading in itself, and more so for the clear exposure of the workings of usury, bribery, and blackmail among the rich and their parasites.

    strange genre....
I don't know where Lawrence Block's head was when he wrote this, it's far from his best and I don't think it took him very long. It's pretty basic and leaves me with the impression that he just made it up as he went along with very few, if no, reviews. When he got to the end I think he realised how poor the book was so decided to throw in a really shocking and nasty ending. The book doesn't really fit in to any particular genre and it's a mixture of gay/lesbian sex, straight romance and suspense. To sum it up I'd describe the book as not particularly well written (I'm being kind) with a pretty seedy story line, possibly with a not so subliminal sub text theme that straight sex is good while alternatives are evil and get their just rewards.

A Garton classic twisted trailer park romp
    Any additional comments?
Riverside Mobile Home Park is the place to be. Unit 9 is home to a recovering alcoholic PI. Unit 5 is a porno den for an up and coming website. Unit 17 is a meth lab. Unit 8 is a part-time stripper mom with a super-hot mentally handicapped 16 year old daughter. You see where this is going? Man that shit goes together with trailer parks like peas and carrots. Throw in some drug ODs, jealous husbands, plenty of inappropriate trailer park sex and the Secret Service and you have a Garton classic. Twisted, man, twisted. Oh yeah, and pretty good too. Exactly what you would expect from Garton with this subject matter, except without the vampires or werewolves or soul-sucking succubuss.
Ax Norman nailed this one. Excellent voice and cadence. Perfect for the storyline.
