It's reasonable to think that when Bo Nix announced his transfer to play for Oregon Football after departing Auburn, he did so with the intention of being the Ducks' starting quarterback this Fall. If he had stayed at Auburn this year with Bryan Harsin and his staff he probably would have been a starter for the 4th year in the SEC. So why did he decide to make the change and come play for new HC Dan Lanning and OC Kenny Dillingham? Given Bo's recent history at Auburn, it's unlikely he would have left for Oregon (or any school) without having the inside track on the starting quarterback job.
On today's episode of Locked On Ducks, Spencer is joined by Zac Blackerby, host of 'Locked On Auburn' to discuss the former Tigers' QB who may very well be the 2022 starter for the Ducks. Zac weighs in on why Bo Nix chose Oregon when he left Auburn, and the multitude of reasons that could have factored into his decision. Zac believes that NIL played a factor given Bo's history of maximizing his opportunities in that space, but also points out that Bo Nix needed a fresh start to best maximize his potential as a quarterback.
Now that Bo Nix is in Eugene, assuming he becomes the starter, what sort of situation will he be in as a signal-caller as it pertains to his chances to succeed? Zac Blackerby provides insight to compare the weapons, offensive line, and defense that Bo Nix will have surrounding him this year compared to that which was around him a year ago at Auburn. The offensive line he will have in front of him in Eugene will likely be an upgrade, and Zac provides insight as to his capabilities to get the ball to Oregon's playmakers on the perimeter--something that Anthony Brown struggled to do consistently last year. Finally, they discuss what Bo Nix could accomplish at Oregon this year in a season that starts against the Georgia Bulldogs in Atlanta.
