    Release date: 05-08-12

    Publisher's Summary:
The 9th novel in James Patterson's Alex Cross series. Alex Cross's first case since joining the FBI has his new colleagues perplexed. Across the country, men and women are kidnapped in broad daylight and then disappear completely. These people are not being taken for ransom, Alex realises. They are being bought and sold. And it seems The Wolf is the master criminal behind this terrible trade and is bringing a new reign of terror to organised crime. Even as he admires the FBI's vast resources, Alex is impatient with the Bureau's clumsiness and caution when it is time to move. A lone wolf himself, he has to go out alone to track his new prey and try to rescue some of the victims while they are still alive. As the case boils over, Alex is in hot water at home, too. His ex-fiancée, Christine Johnson, comes back into his life - and not for the reasons Alex might have hoped.
    Critic Reviews:
"If there really were human superheroes, Alex Cross would be at the head of the class...and, with each instalment in the series, Patterson makes sure his superhero gets bigger and better while at the same time becomming more vulnerable." (New York Times)

    compelling, brilliant, great, tense,
My first in the Alex Cross books & once started on this couldn't put it down, gave up my crime night for this ebook (CSI, NCIS). Was on the edge of my seat with this book.
The narrator's deep voice added to the thrill of this episode. Did the russians impression really well. Did find one part hilarious ".(FBI)... took her into the kitchen to grill her" not sure if this was intended or not but I found it funny.
    Big bad wolf
Gripping story full of twists and turns Alex cross confounded by his person life and red tape I listened well into the night and had to do the end 4 times when I fell asleep
    Missing
I am trying to listern to all the Alex Cross books. Unfortunately a pattern has developed that either the book is abridged for audio or Patterson doesn't finish the story. In this book he leave a collegue in a building being bombed and it's not mentioned again.... what happened to Sandy? Where were Nana and the kids taken, by whom how did they get back ?? This isn't the first time in this series that there have been gaps left, the worst was where his girlfriend is kidnapped for a year, has a baby and nothing is mentioned about it again.

    A little disappointed...
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I am a huge fan of "the Cat Who" books by L.J. Braun and I have read or listened to all of them over the years. However, and with no disrespect intended, I was very disappointed in the reader. I had gotten used to hearing George Guidall do the other Braun audiobooks (i have several on cd) - and I absolutely love the sound of and way he reads! So, to hear this other man was unexpected when the book began. I still enjoy the cat stories - they are all excellent and great fun - but I didn't care for the performance, I'm sorry to say.
Was The Cat Who Blew the Whistle worth the listening time?
It was worth the listen, but I won't purchase another one with this particular reader...
The Cat Who Blew the Whistle
As much as I love "The Cat Who" books, this isn't one of my favorites. It is well done and well worht buying and litening to. A good one for your collection.
    Great, entertaining
This is a can't miss- share it
    forced
Narrator seems forced in jollity especially when its not called for in the story. Also the northern accent seems forced.
    love these Cat Who Mysteries...
love these stories. wish her last one had been published. I don't have anything else to say.

    Not up to par
I love Val McDermid's psychological thrillers. However, it was really hard to like the protagonist of the story. The story itself was far fetched and toward the end it was completely unbelievable. The narrator is wonderful though.
Not One of My Favorite McDermid Books
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I have no real feelings about this book. I have always loved McDermid mystery books and would have purchased this anyway, based on past experience. It was somewhat boring and disappointing this time, as I always look forward to her newest work. Based on this experience , I will think twice about purchasing her next title.
If youve listened to books by Val McDermid before, how does this one compare?
The characters in this book were not at all sympathetic to me. It seems artificial in that there are no main male characters. It is heavily weighted with lesbian characters and not well balanced with other viewpoints or storylines. Past books had much better plots.
    Which scene was your favorite?
    Can't remember any favorite.
Was Trick of the Dark worth the listening time?
Would not recommend this whole heartedly.
    Almost a good listen------
The murder mystery and storyline are well done. It could have been such a good listen. However, there are problems. The only reason I listened until the end was just to find out who the murderer was.
This author has done some really good work in other books. This one left me feeling frustrated due to the interjection of corny dialogue and lesbian relationships. Before you get all judgmental about me-- I would feel the same about any book that is overly concerned with sex between a man and a woman as well--not because of any disproval of lifestyles--but because this book is being sold as a murder mystery. That is what I got from reading the summary.
Almost every main female character is supposedly smart, well educated, accomplished, etc--yet we still get this:
A woman and her girlfriend are in the sauna talking about who might be the murderer, and one woman is thinking "I sure would like to lick that sweat off of her"
When I want to listen to a good murder mystery, I really don't need or want to hear about the sexual activity which seems to be added for no apparent reason. It distracts from the storyline. The author missed the mark on this issue.
Also the dialogue at times is beyond belief. On the same day in which one of the main characters is married, her husband is murdered. On that same day, this newly married woman runs into another woman who babysat her twenty years ago, and they both decide that they have always been in love with each other and must have each other NOW! They think is may be awkward to tell others about their relationship though, due to the murder that day and all. Come On!
    Val, what were you thinking?
    One of McDermid's best.
    Dr.

    Critic Reviews:
"Edgar-finalist Haddam shows no sign of creative fatigue in her baffling 27th whodunit.... Few readers will reach the answer to this crafty puzzle before the endearing and brilliant sleuth, or tease out the significance of the clue of the extra garden hose." (

    Queen of red herrings
I do not know, seems like story is good with describing characters( I like that) but most conversations seem to be distracting tactics and red herring situations. You might say a good example of red herring mystery writing.

    Donovan Creed
If you could sum up The Love You Crave in three words, what would they be?
    Great, very funny.
Which character as performed by George Guidall and Rich Orlow was your favorite?
I have no favorite they both were great.
    Any additional comments?
I can not comment on just this one book. My brother told me about the Creed series so I bought one. After that one I had to get another in less than a month and half I had eight, from start to finish I could not stop laughing. I would reccomend this to all listeners but you need to start from the begining. This series has 10 books so I hope the other 2 will be coming soon.
Great story for adults, with tongue-in-cheek humor
I have newly discovered John Locke (Google him, if you're unfamiliar with his works), and really like his writing style and dry sense of humor.
All his stories are fast-paced and contain adult themes and language, and are definitely not for everyone. But if you like that kind of novel, "The Love You Crave" will not disappoint. It's part of the "Donovan Creed" series and I guess it would be better to read/listen to them in order, but if you don't, it won't distract a bit from the entertainment value, trust me.
This audio book is also very well narrated by George Guidall and Rich Orlow.
Get it now, you'll be glad you did! :)

    Members Reviews:
    Another Great Listen!
This trilogy is my favorite thriller series. Level 26: Dark Revelations (the best and creepiest), Dark Prophecy and Dark Revelations. All three were fast paced page turners and had excellent narrators! It is best to listen to these stories in order. Even though I had already listened to the previous books I stated at the beginning again when this latest book was released (very good the second time around) The accompanying cyber-bridge videos (very well done) at Level 26 make these thriller stories come to life even more. If you are a fan of Mr Zuiker's CSI TV series, then you probably will like this trilogy. Can hardly wait for more!
Not as good as the first of the series!
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
The author spent too much time restating the storyline from the first book, presumably so you wouldn't need to read them in order but it was very tedious. This trend continued in the final book and really diminished my enjoyment. The first was definitely the best!
    Terrifying thriller caps the series
Would you listen to Dark Revelations again? Why?
Yes, I would. It's an odd story, and you sometimes have to be careful that certain facts don't slip by you.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Dark Revelations?
The attack on the newswoman in South Africa. I wanted to tell her, "Run away!" That doesn't work, though.
What about David Aaron Bakers performance did you like?
His voice is very creepy. It's the kind that makes you want to check to make sure that the lights are on.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I was frustrated at some of the plot points- they tested my believability factor. You can have crazy plot twists in a mystery, yes, but if you make them too weird, you almost have to move to science fiction. Nothing wrong with sci-fi, but they're just different. Still, the sense of fear adds to the anticipation.

    Another BBC Value Performance
Where does Charles Paris: Murder in the Title (BBC Radio Crimes) rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
BBC Radio Drama rates usual kudoes!
What did you like best about this story?
Soundtrack mimics Golden Oldies of Charles Paris's past, reminding us of his age. Dialogue is sparkling.
Have you listened to any of Bill Nighys other performances before? How does this one compare?
All Bill Nighy's performances as Charles Paris are delightful, well worth the modest cost...
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, and I did so twice...
    Any additional comments?
Only the Colonial Radio Theater performances come close to matching the BBC Radio Crime dramas. Both troupes are well worth snapping up every offering.
    Quick entertainment
Is there anything you would change about this book?
As it was made for radio I thought they did a fair job of bringing the characters to life in the short time available; it took a bit of imagination to fill in the blanks but that's what radio is about and why we have the gift of imagination.
Did Bill Nighy do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
Yes, I quickly came to know who the characters were and how their idiosyncrasies made up their personalities
Could you see Charles Paris: Murder in the Title (BBC Radio Crimes) being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
I don't know....too much realism has hit our screens; I'm not sure this would make it past the first season.
    Any additional comments?
This radio drama is a great listen when doing those humdrum chores around the house.
    Charles Paris Rules!
These radio plays are good mysteries but Bill Nighy as Charles Paris makes them great. He is witty, unbearable, sexy, hilarious, and mostly drunk. Suzanne Glover as his long suffering wife Frances is absolutely perfect. It's easy to see why they achieved 35 years of "divorce avoidance." They have great vocal chemistry. The rock and roll sound tracks are a big plus. More, please.
Fantastic entertainment for travel or a rainy day
I never tire of the Charles Paris . The mix of louche behavior, contemporary music and exquisite performances makes me feel as though I am in the room watching the comedy undold. Perfect for when you want a great story, well told.
    Great performance unnecessarily interrupted
Love Simon Brett and his Charles Parris character, but, oh why did the recordist not edit out every single cast list and introduction from the original BBC serial. These breaks in the story were really irritating.

    Good Soft Porn
If you need an excuse to read soft porn, this mystery-based version is as good as any. The story line provides a reasonable context for soft porn. Narration is good. The one glaring defect is lack of accurate police/legal procedural detail.
My wife says, "That was awesome"
If you could sum up The Delilah Complex in three words, what would they be?
    Sex Suspense Crime
Who was your favorite character and why?
Noah Jordain, (my wife liked his sexy voice)
    Which scene was your favorite?
    the annual soiree
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    yes
    Any additional comments?
good book to while away the miles with. (the only time I listen to audiobooks is when we drive)
    Quick, Entertaining Read
Is there anything you would change about this book?
    Could use more sex.
Would you be willing to try another book from M. J. Rose? Why or why not?
Yes. I know M.J Rose has written a series of books taking place at the Butterfield Institute featuring Dr. Morgan Snow, I'd be interested in following this character through a few more cases.
Did Phil Gigante and Natalie Ross do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
Very much so. Both readers were thoughtful in their character portrayals.
Do you think The Delilah Complex needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
Yes. The blooming romance between Dr. Morgan Snow and Detective Noah Jordan is just heating up at the end of the novel.
    Any additional comments?
I agree with the other reviewers that said you can easily figure out who is behind the abductions, but it's still an interesting plot. And Det. Jordan is super sexy!
Power and Control with a twist
What did you love best about The Delilah Complex?
    Surprise ending.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Even though I suspected who was responsible early on wasn't completely sure but never suspected how the ending unfolded.
Have you listened to any of Phil Gigante and Natalie Ross s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes, that was the second reason why I decided to listen to the book. I prefer Phil's performance on other books more than this one but maybe with someone else it would of worked.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
    No.

I normally can read a good book in a very short period of time
I didn't care for it as much as the first one. It took too long to "get to the point" and the route it took in between was not intriguing enough. I normally can read a good book in a very short period of time. With this book, I started and stopped and read several other books in between.

    Why change a good thing??
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I would recommend it to a friend, but with a warning...
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
The book on the whole i s good, I'm a devout Rebus fan!
Would you be willing to try another one of Samuel Gilliess performances?
Samuel Gillies is a fantastic narrator, but not for this book. I could listen to him till the cows dropped dead if he was reading Sherlock Holmes or the like, but for this book one needs a Scott, that is why I was very disappointed that the choice of narrator had changed for this book!
Do you think Tooth and Nail needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
This point is moot as it has a follow up book and I' happy about that!
    A disappointing listen
I've read and enjoyed the Rebus novels over the years, but strangely enough, I don't recall reading this one. If I had, I probably wouldn't have bothered with the audiobook because I found the story quite weak in comparison to the other novels. What particularly disappointed me was the reader - the selection of Samuel Gillies for this novel just struck an entirely wrong note with me, to the point that it spoiled what enjoyment I could have got from the book. Overall, a disappointment and not a book I'd recommend to others.
Rankin doesn't age as well as Rendell or James
I finished the first three Rebus novels, but didn't enjoy them as much as early Inspector Wexford or Adam Dalgliesh listens. Neither the character nor the plot was elegant enough to endure past the changed times to become a period listen. While I'll listen to every Rendell or PD James available, I think I'll pick and choose over Rankin's older Rebus.
One small - but annoying - feature of this audiobook: Even though it's set in London, and most of the characters are English, I would have enjoyed a more Scottish Rebus, especially after the excellent performance of narrator Mcpherson in book 1. There is even a suggestion that the London detectives have trouble understanding Rebus' burr - but there's hardly an accent with which to miscommunicate?
    Rebus sounding English
What disappointed you about Tooth and Nail?
I often got lost and did not know it was meant to be Rebus speaking some of the time
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Having Samuel Gillies narrate the book. I had first enjoyed Standing in another mans grave, with Tom Cotcher. Then went back to the start of the series and enjoyed James Macpherson. Rebus needs a good Scots accent.
    Any additional comments?
What a fantastic combination of narrators if Samuel Gillies did the English characters, while James Mcpherson did Rebus.
