Was it the environmental activist enamored with spotted owls, someone from the local Native American tribe, Jeff's son, Jeff's wife, or his wife's lover? Join Kelly, the owner of Kelly's Koffee Shop, her boxer dog, Rebel, and her fiancé, Mike, the county sheriff, as they try and catch the person who killed Jeff Black. Well, it's not as if no one wanted Jeff dead. He had a lot of enemies. There were a lot of people who didn't want to see his property turned into a commercial hotel and spa. Finding suspects won't be hard to do, but finding out who killed him will be. No one would ever nominate Jeff for the "Most Popular Citizen Award". This is going to be a nightmare for Mike. I wonder how I can help him, Kelly thought. Murder at Jade Cove is another mouth-watering Cedar Bay Cozy Mystery with recipes included!

    A Killer Strikes
Cedar Bay Cove is beautiful and draws people to its shores. Unfortunately it's the scene of another murder. Jeff Black is the victim. His plans to build a resort at the cove caused violent opposition. With so many suspects can they find out who killed Jeff? Mike, the county sheriff, is working on it. It's slow going but he's determined not to let Kelly, his fiancée, get involved. She is not easily deterred. She's a warm, open woman who has a talent to get people to open up to her. This small town is filled with interesting and diverse characters. There is no such thing as secrets. Erin deWard captures every nuance of these people. The narration builds the suspense and I was pulled into this cozy mystery. Dianne Harman's style captures all that I love about cozies. I enjoy audiobooks because they make me feel as if I were right there in the middle of the action.
I received a copy in exchange for an honest and unscripted review.
So much fun and, oh, so addicting!!
The Cedar Bay Cozy Mystery Series by Dianne Harman is so addicting! I love everything about it, as you can tell from my reviews of each book on Audible and Amazon. From the loveable characters (yes, that includes the dogs) to the storyline of each book, this series will not disappoint. Each can be listened to as a stand-alone, but I recommend starting with book 1 because I think you will love them as much as I do!
Also, the narrator Erin deWard does a fantastic job! I love her as the narrator of these books. I couldnt imagine anyone else playing the role of Kelly and the others. I hope she continues to narrate the entire series, as more books are added (yes, please keep adding them!). :-)
I rate this 5 stars all around. In my opinion it is the perfect listen for a drive up north or a Saturday afternoon cleaning the house. All the books of Dianne's are anywhere from 4-5 hours. They are easy to listen to and will keep you feeling stress-free. Give it a try...these characters will wiggle their way into your heart in no time at all! :-)
Thank you for reading my review.
    Loved it!!
Loved this book!! I am finally able to see how Kelly's mind works and how she and Mike developed their relationship together. They make a fantastic team on solving crime. I just love them!!! I have gotten hooked on this series.
The next in a great series
Once again Dianne Harman has done a lovely job of taking us on a murder. Erin deWard is wonderful with her narrative too. I truly enjoy this series.

    Poor recording
Enjoyed book Wish One and two were available. Poor recording. Skipped frequently. Actually missed a whole part. Not like a hard copy where you can leaf through and find what you missed.
    A good one
I stumbled into this one. The publisher's blurb did not prepare my for the depths of collateral damage left by old murders and the echoes of those deaths. This book caught my ignorant self and did not let go until I saw the ravages of The Troubles in Ireland. I could not put it down. I thought of people all over the world who live with loss from bombs and killings.
    A very enjoyable read
Would you listen to The Silent Dead again? Why?
I love detective stories especially deep rich detective stories like this particular one. It had some great twists and turns. the story lines continued from the previous books but they managed to give enough detail so that you could listen to this story without needing to read the previous story's. I spent many enjoyable hours with this story. I think it is very well written,
What about Joanne Kings performance did you like?
Joanne King has a really lovely voice to listen to it helped me to become instantly hooked into the story, sometimes I can find narrators voices quite jarring or hypnotic but not Joanne kings.
    Loved it
If you could sum up The Silent Dead in three words, what would they be?
    Interesting
    Captivating
    Enthralling
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Silent Dead?
    Claire having her baby
Have you listened to any of Joanne Kings other performances? How does this one compare?
I have Listened to the whole series
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Good plot & narrator brings it home
Premise of book was good and some good twists. Title of the book lead to some confusion for me as I looked for more of "Bobbi" being a main character but overall it was enjoyable. Narrator did well at separating out characters and lends a mesmerizing quality to the storyline as a whole.

    Enjoyable mystery
    Any additional comments?
I enjoyed the audio version of The Lesson Plan, a debut by G J Prager.
Robert Klayton is a substitute high school teacher by day and a trainee private detective by night. When he meets Sheila, a fellow substitute teacher who is in need of a private eye, he gets excited at the prospect of having enough money to actually pay his rent. However getting involved with Sheila inevitably gets him into trouble A LOT of trouble. He has to try and find a killer while keeping a bunch of bad guys and the cops off his tail.
Overall I found it to be quite well written, the story was engaging and it held my interest quite well.
However, the characters were a bit of a let down for me. In particular Robert, the main character. I just had a hard time reading (or listening in this case) about a character who made such absolutely stupid decisions at every point and had such minimal personal growth. Just when I thought I was gaining a little bit of respect for him, off he goes again and does something even more stupid and It frustrated me a lot. I understand that this was the way he was supposed to be, it was his personality, he isnt a typical good guy. But it just didnt work for me. I didnt find his character very likeable. The female characters that Robert was associated with were all pretty shady also. As were his interactions with them. I hope that substitute teachers are not all like that!
I felt the plot opened with a bang, and then moved quite slowly until about half way when it picked up again. There was a lot of intricate description of non significant aspects of the story, which was not necessarily a bad thing, but I felt at times it was slightly overdone. I loved the old school Rockford files type vibe going on. It was engaging and I wanted to know how the story developed and what happened to Robert and if he ever sorted himself out.
I enjoyed the descriptions of the places in the novel. Las Vegas, the desert, Los Angeles All places I have never been but were well described in the novel.
Audio Version: The author narrated the book himself and I love that! Who better than to emphasise key points and phrases than the person who wrote it originally. I wish more authors would narrate their own books! G J Prager has a lovely accent and I really enjoyed listening to him narrate as Robert. However, at times I got a little confused about who was who and who was saying what because it was hard to differentiate between characters. Every character sounded the same, even the females. I think more of an emphasised change of key or roughness to his voice would have made a world of difference to the listener.

    good story line
Would you listen to Guru Bones again? Why?
I enjoyed listening to the Guru Bones. The story line was good if somewhat implausible as to how many loose ends were intertwined. My biggest issue with this book is the voice of the narrator does not match the claimed age of the protagonists. I enjoy the narrator and think she does an excellent job. However, I keep viewing the protagonist as being at least a decade or more older. I have to keep reminding myself that this person is in their early to mid 30's instead of mid 40's or 50's.
    love these books
Carolyn is always a fabulous story teller. I wish this book had come out as a single, rather than just as an audible book. But I truly enjoyed it!

No Other Darkness is Ms. Hilarys follow up story to her amazing debut novel Someone Elses Skin (go read this one!!!) and boy howdy did she knock this one out of the park!!!!
No Other Darkness is filled with so many twists and turns that I worried I would never find my way out of the maze of this story. We find our self once again following DI Marnie Rome investigating the finding of two young bodies. Two young bodies that have been down in that bunker for 4-5 years. Two young bodies in the dark, in the cold and left behind.
Man, I am not even sure how to tell how much this story was disturbed me and intrigued me. I dont want to say anything to give anything away or give you any clues. If you are a suspense fan you will love this series. I am already excited for the next DI Marnie Rome story.
Ms. Justine Eyre as always does an amazing job as her role as narrator. Ms. Eyre is one of my favorite narrators out there. I love a narrator that can make each character sound so different. It is great when you can close your eyes (but not while I am driving, which is where I do most of my listening), just listen and you know who each character is speaking before you are told.
Again, I can not wait for the next novel in this series. And yes, it will be on my pre-order audible list.
    Disclaimer:
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Tantor Media in exchange for an honest review. This review is my own opinion and not a paid review.
    Sad but true
How could the performance have been better?
The over-done British accent nearly drove me crazy. Maybe it's the way she really speaks but I will never choose a book read by her again! It really detracted from the story, which was a good one.

    A Strong Historical Mystery
Emma Cross, a minor relative of the Vanderbilt family in 1894, wakes up one morning at her home in Newport, Rhode Island where she takes in all women in need, in Murder at Beechwood by Alyssa Maxwell, but this time Emma finds a baby abandoned in front of her door. A fancy lace handkerchief suggests to them that this baby may be the child of someone from high society. This leads her police friend, Jesse, to tell her about the murder of an obviously working class man, wondering if there could be a connection between the cases. Knowing that as the reporter of the society news column of the newspaper, she will be attending the Astor ball for all of high society the next night, Jesse asks Emma to keep her eyes and ears open. She is to see if she can get an idea if a woman there might have given birth to an illegitimate child recently but stay clear of the question of murder. At the ball, Emma notices particular discord among the Monroe family, along with Daphne Gordon, the ward of Virgil Monroe, the family patriarch who tends to rule harshly. And then Emma hears a voice she recognizes. It is Derrick Andrews, the man whose proposal Emma turned down many months earlier but for whom she has discovered a growing love amid confusion over his disappearance from the island for a long time. But when Emma goes to greet Derrick, he gives her a cold shoulder, and his mother positively glares at Emma, creating all sorts of confusion for Emma.
The day after the ball, the Astors host a yacht race, and Emma finds herself invested in two of the 5-man yachts. One is sailed by five of Emma's Vanderbilt relatives, while the other contains the four Monroe men and Derrick. During the race, a storm arises, and the Monroe yacht finds itself losing control, almost running into the Vanderbilt yacht before turning on its side. The rescue boats manage to save four of the men, but no one can locate Virgil Monroe. With the yacht's passing a safety inspection before the race, could someone have sabotaged the yacht? Has another murder taken place?
This book begins with a powerful start and continues with gripping details until the end. The mystery takes many twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat.

Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Modern Detective
    Publisher's Summary:
    The Witch and the Dead...
They say dead men tell no tales. I really wish that was true, because the dead tell me more than I ever wanted to know.
My name is Rowan Gant. I'm just an average guy...well, except for the fact that I'm a witch. That last part is the reason I'm the go-to guy for the local cops whenever a murder is a little beyond the pale, and they need a consultant with knowledge of the occult. I didn't actually want the job, but apparently the job wanted me.
It all started when I was asked to decipher some symbols found at a crime scene. The police needed answers, and as it turns out so did I. You see, fate being what it is, I had a personal connection to the victim when she was still among the living. It gets worse, though.... The images in the crime scene photos gave me a sick feeling that the killer wasn't finished. I could see - even feel - what was coming next, and it was not going to be good.
In fact it was going to be downright evil....

I have read all M.R. Sellars book on the Rowan Gant series and now can enjoy on audible. I hope audible continues to add other books to this series, and not leave us hanging.
"Welcome back. Thanks for not letting go."

I'm so glad I gave this story a chance!
This was a very well written-supernatural-modern detective story. I appreciated the adult character acting like adults and you get a real murder mystery that you try and figure out along with Rowan and Ben.
    ********SPOILER************
I will admit that I hated how goody to shoes Rowan was towards some people..that FBI agent was still on my s*** list of people to dislike. Not even an apology settled that grudge.
And I was pissed Rowan acted like it was no big deal.
    ********************************
Anyway, other than that this story, the plot, and especially the narrator was phenomenal.

    Format: Unabridged
Length: 10 hrs and 7 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 06-18-15
    Publisher: Audible Studios
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 20 votes
Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Modern Detective
    Publisher's Summary:
When a brilliant emigré scientist is killed by a hit-and-run driver and a young woman's body is washed up in the Thames, Merlin and his team must investigate. The woman is an employee of the American embassy, whose ambassador at this time is Joseph Kennedy.
DCI Merlin's investigation of diplomats at the embassy ruffles feathers at the foreign office - the American ambassador is a well-known supporter of appeasement, and many powerful and influential Britons favour the pursuit of a negotiated peace settlement with Hitler.
The death of another embassy employee leads Merlin into some of the seedier quarters of wartime London, where a corrupt nightclub owner, various high-flying diplomats, and the ambassador himself appear to be linked to the events surrounding the deaths.
Merlin has to pursue his detective work under the interfering supervision of an assistant metropolitan commissioner who is fearful about the impact of Merlin's investigations on Anglo-American relations at a time when America represents to many Britain's only hope of salvation.
Capturing the atmosphere of Britain in 1940 during the 'phoney war' when, although war rages on the continent, life continues relatively peacefully in Britain, Princes Gate is an enthralling detective novel.
    Critic Reviews:
"A skillful blending of the factual with a neat mystery. An engaging protagonist in Frank Merlin will be worth looking out for in the future." (Bookbag)
    Members Reviews:
    Hippos English Mystery
This would make a good BBC weekly series. Liked ties to American Embassy before WWll.
    I wanted to like it
What disappointed you about Princes Gate?
I love books set in this period, but listening to this it felt like the author had done some research on London during the Blitz, and then made a list of things to reference. He then went down the list, checking off items - driving in blackout, check! Bomb shelter, check! Upper class house party, check...The characters were just as 2 dimensional as the setting, and there were too many of them. Clearly most of them were there to appear on stage - the refugee Jew, the two thugs, the chinless wonders, the country girls in town to do their war service, the emotionally scarred DI, and many, many more. Did I say many?
Would you ever listen to anything by Mark Ellis again?
Funnily enough, I might. He had some good ideas, and a clever plot, but it was like sitting around with someone telling you their idea for a book - "What if I wrote a book about the US Embassy in London in the run-up to America getting involved in the war and all the various residents from Joseph Kennedy on down to the lowliest typist?". And then he did research about the period, but didn't bother to flesh out the characters.Oh, and it was way too easy to figure out who dunnit. Authors have to play fair in mysteries and give clues, but these weren't subtle hints, they were flashing lights and sirens saying "This one's a Bad Guy! and this one! and this one!" I am usually hopeless at solving the mystery until the very end, and if *I* figure it out early on it is as subtle as a dead skunk!
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Matt Addis?
He wasn't that bad. I don't know if anyone else could have improved the book.
What character would you cut from Princes Gate?
None of them, or all of them.

An exciting series making me want the rest of the series.
    TOP NOTCH THRILLER!
This is a terrific book, well produced. It's the first in a series and my highest compliment would be that I am really looking forward to reading the next two in the trilogy --- and I will listen as soon as they are available on audible!
This got me hooked right away with the murder of a secretary and had me going every step of the way. Adam Drake is a complicated and well thought out character. Who would know that high level terrorism would come out of Oregon --- and that an attorney who is MUCH more than that could possibly save the day? Will he? Did he? I guess you should listen and find out so I don't give anything away ... although there are two more Adam Drake books in the trilogy, apparently. LOL
