    Another Rebus
excellent book with a few good twists and turns to keep you keen for more
    A great book
It was gripping and very easy to follow and the perfect length of chapter with an interesting storyline and plot
Gripping stuff, so many twists and turns
Yet another thoroughly enjoyable tale, with the some of the well established key characters woven into a complex tale. Pay attention, you'll need to.
Siobhan's role and character are developed, her promotion bringing her greater prominence in the storyline.
Narration is faultless, immersing you in the story.
    Well worth a listen.
Rebus and Macpherson, a match made in heaven
What can I say. Hours of pure escapism. In theory I listen as a way of lulling myself to sleep but more often than not try to keep awake to hear what happens next!
    Rebus at his best yet
I'm working my way through Rebus in order. Resurrection Men is a thumping good story with Rebus being less maudlin than before. Old and new characters well portrayed and rounded out. Very enjoyable read.

    Another homerun
I loved not only listening to this book, but the story was great and even made me laugh! this one did not end how I thought, it kept me guessing until the reveal!
Good but not as good as the other books
I am a scrapbooker but have never been on one of these scrapbooking cruises. Wish there was more backdrop on the scrapbooking portion of the cruise but, as with the other books in the series, scrapbooking is only a backdrop but even less so in this book. Still love these likeable, crafty ladies. I'm enjoying seeing how these friends grow and change with each book.
    A Pleasant Surprise
What made the experience of listening to A Crafty Christmas the most enjoyable?
I love murder mysteries and I enjoy scrapbooking and card making. So, to find a book that combined both was a bonus. There was humor and the writing was realistic. I laughed outloud while I was reading it.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
While the protagonist thought she knew who the murderer was, proving it was something else. The author did a good job putting twists in that made me want to keep reading.
What about Barbara Edelmans performance did you like?
Her reading was good. She was consistent with the voices, but I would have liked a little more differentiation between some of the characters.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
    Embellish!
    Any additional comments?
Enjoyed the book so much, I am looking at the series.

With the holidays gone and Hillside Manor almost empty, Innkeeper Judith McMonigle Flynn has a bad case of the blues. A housesitting stint at her aunt and uncle's retirement home on Whoopee Island with cousin Renie seems like the ideal pick-me-up. But it isn't long before a dead body pops up in their vicinity. Not surprising in an area full of older folks - until they learn it wasn't a bad ticker that did in the victim, but a very sharp knife. With clouds of suspicion hovering over her and Renie, Judith reluctantly begins sleuthing. The victim reputedly didn't have an enemy in the world - except for the killer. Digging for clams and answers, the cousins discover that retirement can be deadly - at least among the eclectic, eccentric residents of Obsession Shores.

    Enjoyable
I enjoyed this audiobook, The author's B&B series has always been a favorite of mine. My only dislike would be the length of the story. A few too many unnecessary details and imagery, something a bit shorter will be my next choice.
A Murder tail, with endless chatter.
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
My time could have been spent reading about the beauty of the northwest, seas, trees, animals, homes, just giving a flavor of the area, fauna to food could have enhanced this story. However most of the book was endless banter of retirees.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Clam Wake?
The long wait for something to get started. Thinking all this pointless chatter might be what I sound like to some.
What three words best describe Lindsay Ellisons voice?
    pleasant,
Was Clam Wake worth the listening time?
yes, but not my cup of tea so to speak, I will avoid future books,

What's a cozy mystery without the mystery?
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I would recommend the series - as I love Darling AB and the ladies that live there - but this was my least favourite Susan Wittig Albert book.
If youve listened to books by Susan Wittig Albert before, how does this one compare?
I know it's normal to give a bit of back story in a series but I felt like this book was 1/3 re-telling of the characters' back stories. It was like I was only reading 2/3 new material and the rest was a re-hash of the character set-ups from previous books. Maybe this is because I've read them all twice - so I know them a bit too well.
Could you see The Darling Dahlias and the Silver Dollar Bush being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
Yes, it would be so fantastic! I would definitely tune into that. The fashions alone would great to see - but there are many parallels for today's viewers to take note of.
    Any additional comments?
I hate to say it - because I love this author - but I felt like she phoned this one in. The magical and quick appearance of the new character Tallulah Bell was very convenient to the plot, and a bit obvious. I also didn't really feel any suspense in "the mystery", which was kind of lame. As usual I love visiting Darling - and hearing about the ladies. I was happy to read about about Fanny and sad to hear about Liz, but this cozy was very short on mystery.
    Great series.
Makes you feel like the Depression couldn't have been all bad.

A great London mystery with a kinky twist
Excellent writing style! Enjoyable and more contemporary crime mystery with Inspector Dalgliesh set in London. A very interesting story which takes you to the secluded and rich area near Hampstead Heath Park in London. The book is rich in characters and action, there is a kinky and unexpected twist in the end before the murderer is uncovered. There are also notes of romance in Inspector Dalgliesh's life which add a nice nuance to subdue the harshness and cynicism.
    Easy listen
What made the experience of listening to The Murder Room the most enjoyable?
I liked the back stories you get on all the characters. Well written and well read by the narrator.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Murder Room?
When I realised it was actually set in present day!! Oddly, when purchasing the audiobook I imagined it being set in the early 1900's. I had to rewind and start again when I heard someone died in 2006!
What does Daniel Weyman bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you had only read the book?
Good character voices! easier to remember what each person did further back in the book when the voices differ so much.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The chapter in the train station near the end of the book.
    Any additional comments?
Love PD James books, you wont be disappointed by The Murder Room
    A slow starter
I really struggled at sticking with this book to begin with - partly down to a rather flat narration style. Happily after a few chapters I stuck at it and was glued to it right to the end. Definitely worth a read, but would benefit from a more lively narrator.
    Enjoyable P D James
The reading of this book is excellent. It is very clear which character is speaking. The storyline kept me guessing, even though Inspectors Dalgleish knew before the denouement who the killer was! I did not and was somewhat surprised to find out. I enjoyed this book very much.
    Gripping
Another great detective story with Adam Dalglish. Well written keeping the suspect well hidden.

It's everyday business when Wattles, the San Fernando Valley's top "executive crook", sets up a hit. He establishes a chain of criminals to pass along the instructions and the money, thereby ensuring that the hitter doesn't know who hired him. Then one day Wattles finds his office safe open and a single item missing: the piece of paper listing the crooks in the chain. When people associated with the chain begin to pop up dead, the only person Wattles can turn to for help is Junior Bender, professional burglar and begrudging private eye for crooks.
But Junior already knows exactly who took Wattles' list; the signature is obvious. It was Herbie Mott, Junior's burglar mentor and second father - but when Junior seeks him out to discuss the matter, he finds him very unpleasantly murdered. Junior follows the links in the chain back toward the killer, and as he does, he learns disturbing things about Herbie's hidden past. Just how much of the life he's lived for the past 20 years has been of his own making, and how much of it was actually Herbie's game?
    Members Reviews:
A serious misstep from one of my faves.
Would you try another book from Timothy Hallinan and/or Peter Berkrot?
I have loved all of the Poke Rafferty books, which show us the extraordinary vista of Tim Hallinan's talent. On the other hand, I have read a couple of the Junior Bender books, and I have to ask, "Why?" Junior can't even be compared to Poke as a protagonist in any way. A burglar? That we are supposed to get interested in and enjoy following his exploits? His fellow low-life burglars, and his teacher, Herbie, the grandfather of burglars, who teaches crooks how to break into people's houses? What on earth could have made Tim seriously think that this would be an enjoyable read? I know there is humor, and the fact that he is getting recognized for the humor is all good. But it's just not for me.
Has Herbie's Game turned you off from other books in this genre?
I'm not going to generalize from this attempt to other authors' works. Thomas Perry, for instance, has accomplished what one might think of as the impossible in this area: the Butcher's Boy is a serial killer with whom we empathize, and whose adventures often find us, against all odds, rooting for him. Other authors might be able to do something like this, but I haven't come across it yet. As a faithful reader of Tim's newsletter, I know that he has more Junior Bender books planned, as well as more Poke Rafferty books. Disappointing.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The narrator actually is pretty good. There are many voices, which he does well. I woould listen to him again, just not to a Junior Bender book. The narrator of the Poke Rafferty series, by contrast, is just marvelous, and I would not want anyone else to read them.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Basically disinterest. I just don't care about the lives of these characters. I very much appreciate Tim's sense of humor, but you just can't get me to care about the lives of these criminals and their lock-picking skills, and their "disconnects" (don't bother) and their beautiful, hot, smart (yeah, yeah, yeah) chicks.

    Dissappointed with the narration speed
The Dead Soul is a novel about a serial killer, and it had what I would consider to be a very interesting premise, and was written by an author who is at least somewhat well known. However...
This audiobook suffers from two crippling problems.
The first problem is the speed of narration. At first, I felt that the narrator was trying to sound very serious and intense, and at first that fit what was happening. As the story progressed into the second half of the first hour, and onwards, I realized that this tone and more importantly, pace, does not and will not ever change. The place is absolutely "plodding", and the spacing between sentences in mind numbing. I often found myself needing to rewind the recording and re-listen to passages because I realized that I had simply tuned out.
The second problem is the lack of believable character voicing. In a scene where a woman is being murdered somewhat slowly and she is supposed to be screaming at the top of her lungs in terrible pain and fear, what we hear is a half hearted, throaty "Oh, please help me. Oh no somebody help." stated as if the narrator were reading the list of ingredients off of a box of cereal. I certainly don't expect a middle aged male to sound exactly like a screaming woman, but I did expect more than this.
I wasn't able to get past the second hour, and have since decided to move on. I am giving the story a full five stars because reviewers of the print version seemed to love the story, so I am choosing to believe them and not penalize this version.
    Fantastic
As a true crime enthusiast I was a bit skeptical to try a novel, but this book was fantastic. It was gritty and real the way that real life is, not always pretty, not everyone gets a happy ending. It was also a page turner. I had to know what happened next. Chocked full of clues, I didn't want to kiss a single word. Great book.
As for the narration, it's Kevin Pierce, he is suburb and probably half the reason I gave this book a shot. So glad I did!

    very captivating!!
Alot of characters but great suspense and many twists!! kept me interested the whole time.
    perfect murdet-suspense
Brilliant new concept for this genre. Many surprises but no holes or contrivances. Compelling characters. Reader helps with that. Make a movie or TV minii-series.
    Good Story; Stupid Characters
This book comes very close to being a 5-star book. I had to give it 4 stars because of the ridiculous decisions made by the main characters.
    No Spoiler Here:
At one point in the story, a main character asks herself, "Why did I come up with such a stupid plan?" I laughed out loud. That is exactly what I want to know. Someone is seeking revenge on behalf of another individual. Who could it be? Well, I am sure that 90% of all readers of this book guessed who it was! Why wouldn't the main characters see it?
I do admire O'Brien's writing style, and he knows how to build suspense. The "old wrong" that needed to be "righted" was pretty interesting and believable. So I give the story 4 stars.
(It was not even a little bit scary. I am still looking for SCARY stories!)
The narrator has the annoying habit of adding a syllable to the end of most sentences. So he says "What was that Noise-uh?" instead of "What was that noise?" I learned to tune that out, or the whole listening experience would have been annoying in the extreme.
    O'Brien does it again!
I discovered Kevin O based on an audible suggestion and I'm glad I took a chance.
In this book, I was a little concerned with the female lead near chapter 30 as she seemed to be so smart but couldn't figure out what was obvious to me but in the end, all was as it should have been. I will pick up his other books.
    I am really, really sorry.
The reviews of "Awesome", and "You won't be sorry", led me to purchase this book expecting a really interesting ride. I just fast-forwarded to the end (at about the two thirds mark) because I could not stand any more of the following: ridiculous choices made by some of the characters (supposedly in mortal fear for themselves and their families), such as inviting a complete stranger you met on the street into your home to babysit your children; involving a potential suspect's father in your top secret investigation; not involving the police because the crimes had all taken place in different jurisdictions; tortuously detailed paragraphs along the lines of, "She stepped on the brake pedal until the car slowed to a crawl.

    A Christmas Puzzler
There are several indications that Queen meant for this to be his last book featuring writer and detective Ellery Queen. For one, there's the title. And the story harkens back to the very first Queen mystery, The Roman Hat Mystery. And in the story, EQ is having a hard time coming up with a book, thinking that 30 novels is enough for any author. Luckily, there were several Queen novels that followed this, many of them very, very good. The Finishing Stroke is essentially a Christmas mystery taking place over three time periods. It begins in 1905 and describes the events leading up to the birth of John Sebastian. The bulk of the story takes place over the holiday period of 1929 / 1930 and is the mystery concerning the 12 nights of Christmas and the sinister presents given to John along with cryptic messages meant to indicate his death on 12th Night. Skip 27 years into the future to where Ellery is given the Sebastian file and remembers the events and correctly solves the crime. We're even given the old Challenge to the Reader one last time, although good luck solving this one!
    Great Story
I enjoyed this book. I was shocked a couple of times when the bad language went too far but the overall story was very good.
