Enjoyable cozy

Enjoyable little cozy read through Whispersync/Immersion reading. The narrator does a great job of voicing all the different characters.

The book is populated by zany, quirky characters with the main ones being members of the Chubby Chicks Club. One of their members die and two members, Cat and Anna Mae, work together to prove it wasn't a suicide and to solve the murder. The Quirky and appealing nature of these characters makes it possible to overlook the few implausible parts of the story while some of the situations they find themselves in are truly funny.

this book features a group of lively characters who love to solve mysteries. It was very entertaining.

If you can ignore the authors racial stereotypeing

Author stereotypes everyone and it really gets on my nerves but if you get past that. Its an enjoyable book. It took me a few times to start it but once I did and really listened to what was going on I really liked it.

Better than Dragon Tattoo

Leif Perssson has become my favorite Scandinavian mystery author. His writing is crisp, his characters are credible and his dialog is excellent. Given the author's background, the reader continually wonders about how much of the fiction is based on fact. This is the third volume of his "Fall of the Welfare State" trilogy.. The first two volumes are based loosely on events leading up to the still unsolved assassination of the Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme. This third volume is a procedural and takes place 20 years after the assassination. A small group of police methodically go through the evidence and arrive at a conclusion very different than the official one.

Persson's trilogy covers much of the same ground as Stieg Larsson "Dragon Tattoo" trilogy but is better written and more credible. All Persson lacks is a character as compelling as Larsson's Lizbeth Salander.

Long, long story, well told, by an author with a nice style of writing. A lot of subtle humor brings a chuckle or two in every chapter.

Well written, lots of intrigue plus humor

I loved this trilogy by Dr. Persson; in fact I ordered his other books through Amazon as I enjoy his story lines and writing. My library had the first two books in the trilogy, so after reading Free Falling I donated it so that next person will be able to enjoy the entire story!

An excellent reaf

If you can fall in love with an author... I have. Few if any authors can mix reality and fiction like Leif GW and I like not knowing where the border is exactly. As for details, which I often only browse with other authors, here I dive into them and find them exciting. Free Falling is an excellent read!

Un-Put-Downable

Need a way to escape the horrors of the 2017 daily national news cycle? Look no further than the Ella Marconi detective series, which expertly combines great writing, realistic characters and situations, and edge-of-your-seat suspense. I especially love the way the author, who draws heavily on her own experience as a paramedic in Australia, draws you in immediately to the mystery within the very first chapter, and often the first few pages. There are a LOT of books I start listening to and then discard, bored after two or three (or even five or seven) chapters. Any Katherine Howell novel is a GUARANTEED finish. Im binge-listening to the entire series now, and theres not a dud in the lot. I guess my only criticism would be that there are A LOT of characters, and if youre not paying attention, you may miss important clues as to the identity of the killer.

The narration, by Caroline Lee (who also narrated Big Little Lies and The Secret Keeper) is fabulous, as always. Grade: A

A pleasant surprise!

This is my first Joel Goldman book and my expectations were low. Chasing the Dead is an excellent legal thriller. I love having Kirsten Potter, one of the best, narrate the novel

Good read

I loved both the books in this series. If you havent read volume 1 you should before you read this one. Joel does a great job creating interesting characters and a wrong that you think never will be right.

Verbose

This book is VERY poorly written. There are many words that even the Kindle dictionaries couldn't define. There are many sentences that just run on endlessly. There are far too many names that can't be pronounced by the average person. There are too many foreign language lines without a translation. As many others have commented, there are many errors concerning the year 1981 and songs or movies mentioned that were not released until well after 1981. The story once you reach the end is pretty compelling, but all of the unnecessary trivia throughout and the overused words (without a definition) makes many pages in a row QUITE boring.

Great story

This is a very good book. I had it on tape and listened to it many times as a truck driver. Then I bought it on Amazon. I will no doubt read it many more times.

Although is was set in the 80s, it fits for current events also, that makes it scary.

Robert K. Tanenbaum is a great story teller.

Great writer

Robert Tanenbaum is a novelist who has created a wonderful couple/family with the Karp series. While Butch Karp and Marlene Ciampi, his lawyer/investigator wife are career successes, they are typical parents who experience the trials of all parents. Each novel is great for rapid reading, adventure and nail-biting suspense, both in the physical and courtroom machinations.

Interesting characters with action heating up a lot as book progresses

Writing is ok but I really like the characters and towards midway his books always take off. The reason I read his books though are his characters, if not for them the story line would be just so so.

Great Series

Her books are always wonderful. I love how the series connects. The book itself was in great condition and I have no complaints.

These books are really fun reads - Barbieri presents characters you think you've met before. The book was in great condition and arrived early. I am looking forward to the next installment.

Ally is a hoot, and the supporting characters are also very entertaining.

Not a book I could really sink my teeth into...

An eery start followed by a few suspenseful moments leading into the ordinary and the predictable. Book's description sounded promising, but I'm not hitting it off with any of the characters a third of the way in which is a must for me if I'm to continue reading. Billed as a police procedural and a thriller, I found the book rather slow-paced at times given all the irrelevant detail & sidebars that were accumulating and I also had to wonder about a police force that doesn't know enough to secure the scene of the abduction long before the husband and his acquaintance go parading thru hours earlier. At best it was just another crime/mystery book that never really stood out from the pack so I would award it an average 3 stars.

Good but not great.

I enjoyed the book for the most part. The story itself was good, suspenseful and had some nice twists and turns. My biggest problem with the book is I hate when the lead characters make the most idiotic decisions that you know any real parent would never make. If your wife has been kidnapped by a maniac and you know for a fact that he is coming after your children next, would you leave your kids at home with only their old grandma to watch them? Of course not. No one would be that stupid. There are a few other idiotic decisions made that just kind of ruined the book for me. I shouldn't say ruined because I did like it but it could've been a great book if the author developed more sophisticated ways for the killer to strike, rather than making it easy for him because the parents are morons. Again, I'm not trying to be too hard because despite these flaws it was a good read.
