    Just skip this one
You could take every GW license out of this story and you have a horror/thriller set during wartime. It has no bearing on the overall narrative, the characters are gullible and bland seemingly just to advance the story to it obvious conclusion. Sry. Just skip it, I wish I did.

A great story based around my favourite Primarch
This story really captures Vulkan's sheer power and unwillingness to use it, which I love!
    Exceptional

    Rise of the Death Watch
This has been my favorite of the series so far. I love how it highlights the need for and the lethality of the Death Watch. And I couldn't keep myself from grinning every time the Blood Angel gets into combat.

An innocent child, injured. A family, in peril.
The Fantasy Lines is known all throughout America as one of the best ways to have a family-friendly vacation. Why wouldn't it be a perfect choice? A voyage out to sea, docking in exotic locales, sampling cuisines from around the worldall while out in the crystal-clear waters as you take in some world-class entertainment. Belize, renowned for its breathtaking marine life and lush landscapes, is an obvious selection as a stop for Fantasy Lines. Until now.
A strange lab is harboring secrets deep within the confines of Belize. Atrocities that have cruelly been labeledexperimentsare being performed.
One of the many families aboard the Fantasy Lines is headed into town to do a bit of shopping. Regrettably, a stray dog foraging for food in a back-alley lab winds up dining on some genetically altered rats, and the meal changes him for the worse. The family's young daughter, little Ariana, is suddenly nipped by the infected dog, and, soon, she is back on board and out to sea.
It's a new breed of zombiezombies that can organize, zombies that can plan, zombies that can think. Now, the Fantasy Lines cruise ship has become the rowboat heading down the river, with drooling demons craving flesh. Bands of drunken frat boys are now muscled marauders, howling for human meat. The puppetmaster of all these sins against humanity is none other than the captain of the ship himself. It's up to the few remaining survivors to do all they can to fight off the hordes of zombies.
Then there's the lab in Belize. Something there has gone wrong, terribly wrong.
While the cruise passengers are fighting for their lives, a courageous lab assistant and members of the CDC are doing all they can to contain the virus.
Will the courage of the passengers be a match for the cold, calculating undead?
Can the secret coalition in Belize stop a world-ending catastrophe?

Original Story, Amazing Plot, Fast Paced
This is a really original and well crafted book. The family in this book takes a cruise that makes port in Belize, which is where an encounter between a dog and a rat that has been modified genetically causes all hell to break loose. From there everything gets going with this fast paced and action packed story. From the rat to the dog to a girl who is bitten by the dog, a zombie apocalypse on a cruise ship is unleashed. Unlike the mindless zombies you see on TV (or read about in other novels), these cruise ship based zombies possess intelligence. They will be difficult to deal with given their ability to reason and think rationally. To me this makes the story much more scary than the walking dead- type zombies that have no ability to use their minds. If you like zombie based stories, this is a great one--and one that is more original than others I have read.
    Zombies out at Sea
This is the story of a series of unfortunate events. A scientist tossed away lab rats infected with an experiment gone wrong, who in turn turned a stray dog into a rabid canine, who in turn went mad and bit Ariana, a little girl on holiday on a cruise tour, with her family. Now onboard, the girl is obviously infected with a virus that has a side effect... it turns living beings into Zombies. Most of the ship, including the captain, are infected and want to get to the nearest shore to take over the planet.

This conclusion to the saga brings more of what has defined the Crucible Shard series, hard decisions and complex choices as the lines between hero, anti-hero, and villain blur even more.

pretty solid ending to the series
endgame indeed. pretty solid booked all the way through the series this one was as cool as the others. the characters never act outside of what I would expect them to do which is always appreciated. To me it's just kind of a basic of good writing.
A good way to end, but nothing unexpected.
It was a wonderful story that each book cost too much for, but overall I feel the book series was good. The ending felt like an ending but not one where you felt fully satisfied, it felt more like a launch point for his next series (hopefully) that he mentioned in the authors notes at the end this last book. If that's the case I feel this book wonderfully transitions the series and would satisfy what's needed there.

    poor audio
the story was ok. the reading was poor. background noise bad. readers inflections were not good. almost monotone. not worth the listen at 13.95
    okay not great
the characters felt very flat the driving goals for somewhat less and what I expect from a Sci-Fi series of this magnitude.War with aliens. sShowing up at the last minute and being able to defeat the enemy with a secret weapon they just happen to have. The main character didn't show any strategic advance or or tactical genius. overall I felt the story fell a little flat
    White noise!
The story's great, but there was white noise in the background. Horrible to listen to.

    Any additional comments?
Beautifully written. Pulls on the heartstrings in so many ways because of the inevitability of the outcome. Just like The Girl with all the Gifts, extrapolates logically from the initial premise. Totally satisfying book.
Excellent Follow-up for the Girl with all the gift
Absolutely loved the first book in the series and this second book didn't disappoint. I found this hard to put down, I couldn't wait to hear what was happening next. I love the pictures painted by the words. Highly recommend.
Extraordinary. Best book ever, along with The Girl With All the Gifts. Thank you so so much, MR CAREY and FINTY.
Extraordinary. Best book ever, along with The Girl With All the Gifts. Thank you so so much, MR CAREY and FINTY. You make the world a much better place.
    Boy Meets Girl!
The "Boy on the Bridge" sees MR Carey return to the world of his simply stunning debut "The Girl With All The Gifts". It is reasonably described as a prequel but it most certainly should not be read first! Part of the sheer joy of reading "The Girl" was an extremely cleverly-written voyage of discovery to the very nature of its lead character and her story. Even the genre of the book takes some time to reveal itself. So, while this could beread as a standaloneit will take a lot away from any subsequent reading of the original volume. Likewise of course reviews of this onesuch as this are bound to contain spoilers, read on at your peril!
This bookfollows a crew of soldiers and scientists sent out fromBeacon to see if they can discover ways to combat the cordyceps infestation that has devastated mankind. They are an interesting mix and there are things to recommend this over the original book. The research that has gone into it is naturally deeper and the characters felt more rounded to me. Finty Williams does her usual fine job of narration and the world does maintain consistency and fit well. The epilogue really ties it all together and removed a huge doubt from my mind.
So, I really enjoyed this and would very happily recommend it to anyone who read and enjoyed the first book. I personally don't think that it quite hits the same dizzy heights though."The Girl With All The Gifts" was extremely original and clever in that it delivered a genuine voyage of discovery. I think this one is very enjoyable but I wasn't left with quite the same sense of wonder and it didn't have the same page-turning qualities. Still, "The Boy" is a very worthy companion to "The Girl" as the epilogue proves.
Good but not as good as the girl with all the gifts
I was blown away by the girl with all the gifts. M.R.Cary is a fantastic writer.
This book is still good but doesn't have the same wow factor / emotional buy in.

For millennia the Anadens have ruled the known universe. They believe they've crafted the perfect empire, ordered and impervious to challenge. They believe the fight has been crushed out of the species they subjugate. They are wrong.
It's a suicide mission, without a doubt. Alex Solovy and Caleb Marano must steal crucial intelligence from the Anadens' central military headquarters. To succeed, they'll need to navigate a strange universe ruled by a cabal of powerful immortals, populated by aliens they've never met and fueled by technology they've never seen. They're going to need a little help - the kind of help only a defiant anarchist on the run from more than just personal demons can provide.
As Anaden agents close in, back home in Aurora humanity races to prepare. Steeled from the Metigen invasion and the rise of Prevos, no longer will they wait for doom to come to them. Forewarned the Anadens intend to crush them out of existence, humans, Artificials and Prevos join together to bring the war to the doorstep of the enemy, even as a shadowy foe re-emerges to jeopardize all they've built.
Our universe is but a snowglobe - an experiment born of desperation and hope. The true universe is unfathomably vast, teeming with life and untold wonders. And it is enslaved.
Created by ancient aliens in a daring gambit to understand the nature of the enemy, humanity is now asked to be the savior of a universe not their own. If they are to succeed, they must rise above not only their fractious past but the sins of their genetic ancestors to boldly embrace a future they never dared imagine possible.

"France is dangerous? Maybe if you're a snail."
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Easily one of, if not the most enjoyable audiobooks I have heard for a long time. Colourful characters, well constructed interesting storyline, ongoing often hilarious action, dialogue humour - sometimes laugh out loud - and a brilliant narration. This book has it all.
The Feedback Loop is a type of Groundhog Day, set in cyberspace. Quantum ("Call me Quantum") Hughes is stuck in a loop, the only real player in a Proxima Galaxy game, his logout having stopped working some 540+ 'days' before.- he knows that because he added a new item to his inventory after each awakening. He can't die but he's often murdered only to return the next morning to the predictable day ahead, starting at 8.05 when the Morning Assassin crashes through his window with some new way to kill him, or be killed. Then the crow flies past his window ...
Quantum is sick of it. He wants out. Then into his cyber life comes something strange, a new player - and she is a real person.
Written in the first person, Quantum is trapped with his emotions on edge, yo-yoing between boredom, depression, hopelessness, self pity, paranoia, callousness, anger, gallow's humour and fear. And Jeff Hays is Quantum, the slick, fast talking fighter, tired of being alone, afraid of what might have become of his body in the real world, hating the loop in which his is stuck. As the book progresses, the humour intensifies. And the narration echos it all. I have been an admirer of Mr.Hays' work for some time but in this performance he excels both in his interpretation of the text and in giving fitting voice to each and everyone of the other characters. (There is even a delicious little throwaway joke in which Quantum remarks to one of the in game personalities about another group, that their "accents are off ...like Dick van Dyke in Mary Poppins." and receives the reply that, looking for cultural diversity, the game makers " had voice actors create characters. Some were more successful than others." ).
There is so much I would like to write about and quote from this book. Snippets keep being recalled to make me smile. I want to recommend it to everyone I know. As soon as I heard the last sentences played, I purchased book two, Steampunk is Dead, in eBook format. But I haven't opened it yet: I am waiting to see if it, too, will be made into an Audiobook with Jeff Hays narrating.
