    Wild romance and mysteries
Would you consider the audio edition of The Man in the Brown Suit to be better than the print version?
Definitly Yes! Emilia Fox smooth voice, wit and underlying humor makes you actually be on board of the ship and Africa.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
    Till the very end.
    Which scene was your favorite?
It's too hard to pick one out.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When Anne arrives in London to move in with her father's solicitor and his wife, she makes herself less attractive, so that the wife can feel herself a little bit more relax.
    Any additional comments?
For anyone who would like to hear a fun, mysterious and romantic thriller, you are not going to be disappointed with the "Men in the brown suit".
    not one of her best
As an unabashed Christie fan, I still have to warn you: this is definitely not one of her best. It's romance over mystery, third rate writing over detective suspense. An ok read, but only if you've read the others and are in withdrawal :)
Great story, shame about the narration
This is a lovely, light-hearted adventure story. It is often very funny. The heroine is resourceful and fun, there are lots of twists and turns and Agatha Christie shows her mastery of plot. There are plenty of knowing nods to tales of square-jawed types who with one bound are free from the villains.
I was very pleasantly surprised to come across Colonel Race as a young man who was very dashing and not a little romantic. I am now looking out for the other books in which he appears, I was very taken.
The only reason it might not go immediately on to my list for multiple listens is the narration. Some female narrators can do men's voices convincingly but sadly Emilia Fox is not one. She did a very good job of capturing the bright, feisty heroine but her men were all gruff and unconvincing.
    Bad recording
This is a bad recording of the book. Be aware before buying it.

One of my Rare 5-Star Rating
I am a huge fan of this series and can't wait for the next book (The fourth book in the series - The Red Moth) to be released in audio. This book, Shadow Pass is the second in the series
It has already been published in print, Kindle and eBook formats, but audio is still in the works (HOPEFULLY).
I enjoyed the first Inspector Pekkala book, The Eye of the Red Tsar, and was anxiously anticipating this book. I was very much pleased with the outcome.
This book take Pekkala on a new mission with some of the same characters and also tells us a little more about the history of Pekkala. Like the entire series, the main theme or story revolves around actual history told through the eyes of a fictional character, Pekkala.
The narrator Paul Michael likewise does a fantastic job and I would happily choose another book given he is the narrator.
Overall HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! I would definitely recommend taking them in order.

When hes picked out of a photo array in a vicious rape case, the cops find his apartment empty. A stakeout catches Sugar when he returns... carrying a loaded pistol. But Solly tells Sugar that one of the heist crew was actually sent by another planner - and that planner has just died. In Sugars world, all loose threads must be cut. He suspects that theres more to this job than what Solly is telling him. But nothing he suspects or imagines can prepare him for what he finds.

slow start but makes up for it in the end
This one is well worth the time and $ but starts slow but gets the job done in the way only Vachss is so well known for. This is not a Burke novel and some may try to hold it to that litmas, but it is best left judged as a stand alone work if you are a Burke fan. Vachss has once again given us an education in an area most will never have the courage to ever go and make it a pleasure to experience. So sit back and enjoy.

...And they say waterboarding is torture!!!
After disregarding a review by a fellow member on another of Mr. Christopher's Templar books, I must say that I should have heeded her advice.
The book starts off with a bashing of the military diatribe, then proceeds into a boring and mundane story. After almost two hours, and only one scene worth mentioning, and in mentioning I mean a scene that encouraged the reader to continue on. I am regretting ever purchasing this book.
Since I have already purchased the book, I have no choice but to trudge on to the end in the hopes that the author utilized a "How to book" in some way, shape, or form and benefited from its lessons. Otherwise, I would have to say -- "caveat emptor". Let the buyer beware.
The narrator fails to annonciate words correctly, saying "Oh Juice" instead of "Au jus", and calling a "Templar" a "Temp ah lar". Then fails to create a viable image of the characters he is portraying. Voices don't match the descriptions of the characters, and the effeminate tones the narrator imparts into a potential villian, not only makes it impossible to believe the seriousness of the character, but makes the listener want to fast forward to the next seen.
If I were to have to make a decision on purchasing this audible book again, I would close out my web browser, bang my hand with a hammer, then listen to Rosanne Barr's renditition of the "Star Spangled Banner" being played backwards. The pain would be the same and less expensive.
The premise of the story sounds great and the fact that there are three books in the series suggests that the storyline has potential, but even the best laid plans can fail if the foundation is not set correctly.
I am sorry if I portrayed this story in such a negative way, but if one person changes his mind on purchasing this audiobook, then the effort was worth it.
    I agree with William-Don't Buy
What disappointed you about The Sword of the Templars?
In William's review he said that it would have been less expensive for him if he hadn't purchased this book. He was so correct and I didn't listen the first time as a result this hurt more because I was burned twice. Buy almost anything else, but don't buy from this narrator or author. My grandson has a better grasp on the creation of storylines and he is just learning the process of how to create a storyline.

During an intimate dinner party, a cat burglar breaks into the home of A-list actor Marcus Dowling. When his wife walks in on the thief, the situation quickly teeters out of control, leaving an empty safe and a lifeless body.
The same night, a woman and her infant child are ruthlessly gunned down in an abandoned garage. The killer hasn't left a shred of evidence, except for a foreboding and cryptic message: WCF, the letters written in blood-red letters.
With two elusive criminals on the loose, Detective Lindsay Boxer calls on the Women's Murder Club to help her stop them before they continue their spree. But before they can break either case, the Lipstick Killer changes his act and demands a ransom--not for a single victim, but for all of San Francisco. Lindsay puts her own life on the line--but will it be enough to save the city from this deranged killer?

Nine murder victims, 4 mothers, 5 children.....and counting!
WOW! From a very deranged ex-military officer turned serial killer, to a lesbian school teacher by day/ jewel thief by night, to our heroine homicide police Sargent, Lindsey Boxer..... all grouped into a suspenseful meandering story. Boxer continues to be a well likable character; however, she does not seem to be quite as much in control as she has been in some previous escapades in this series. The plot had lots of action but was a bit predictable. The Women's Murder Club seems to be losing steam and Cindy and Yuki, seem to be primarily included just to fill a bit of space. The very likable Claire, the Medical Examiner, exhibits her dynamic personality in a timely fashion. Even tho' this is the 9th book in this series, I think it can easily be a stand alone read. There were pages in which I wished there was more get on with it and make something happen instead of being bogged down in bedroom scenes that added nothing to the plot. While I fully understand this is a work of fiction, I found much of it a bit nonsensical. Not bad, but certainly not the best suspense thriller that I have ever read; however, a bit better than some previous books by Mr. Patterson and associate.
I enjoyed the characters and there were occasionally surprises interspersed throughout ...
This is obviously the 9th book that I've read in this series and I think I've maxed out. A lot of sameness and there are so many new and exciting series now that it's time for me to move on. I enjoyed the characters and there were occasionally surprises interspersed throughout the series, so please don't take this as a poor review of the book -- just a personal preference on my part. Quick read, short chapters.
    Enjoyed both mysteries
Another book in the series of the Women's Murder Club. I like series in books with authors and am enjoying this series of Patterson's. While I can't say these are the best books I ever read, they are good-great mysteries, easy to follow, changes in characters, keep me reading mysteries. And I enjoy being entertained by a good author & his quick mind. Twisting, turning, emotional, and always keeps me guessing.
    Putting bad guys away
I do like all the books but itâs sad that murder like this could happen to people, committed by individuals that are distraught through a horrible experience while in the service.

    Can't recommend
Since I want to spend my credits wisely, I always read reviews and listen to the sample before I purchase a title. I did the same thing before selecting this title but it turned out to be a stinker anyway. The execution doesn't live up to the promise of the premise (not intended as a pun, but there you have it). The heroine is shrill and whiny. That's the way the narrator has portrayed her, but I think his interpretation is faithful since almost everything she says is insipid. I don't care for any of the characters and I am four hours into this thing.
The writing is competent but not inspired. There is a lot of telling without showing, which is the hallmark of workmanlike writing. Certainly, there are times when telling is perfectly appropriate and advances the story. However, this novel relies entirely on telling and tedious conversation, making it read like a bad police procedural.
I have fallen asleep every time I try to listen to this book. To summarize...... s n o r e.................
Story is good but the voices are horrible
I wanted to get through listening to this book just for the sake of not giving up on it, but the narrator's voice changes took me out of the story every time :/
    Great book
I love her stories and this one was one of her best book. very easy to listen too.
Too many different story arcs for audible book
It was a good story, but trying to listen to it and keep up with all the various characters and story lines was a bit difficult. Maybe not a great one to use audible for.

    Smart, funny, droll, fabulous....
I discovered Derek Robinson courtesy of a muddy videotape version of his UK TV series, "A Piece of Cake" over a decade ago. Enthralled, I immediately plunged into this and his other books - those that I could find in the US, that is. Unlike and antiseptic Heller's "Catch 22", this is a sardonic writer whose, primarily WWII- (and WWI-) focused works one can so easily relate to. (I'm sure Robinson's WWII RAF experience helps).
Nobody beats Robinson in describing the spontaneity and ferocity of aerial combat or, for that matter, the poignancy of lost love on terra firma. And always there's that inevitable acerbic twist.
Sadly, Robinson's books, while generally very well reviewed - "Goshawk Squadron" after all was long listed for the Booker Prize - never seem to have hit the charts in the US.
But we lucky few (or perhaps, not so few?) know better.
This book is perhaps more topical, in that it covers a larger span of history. WWII, yes, but also the 1950s and points beyond as well.
Droll, informative, laugh-out-loud funny....in short, an all-around winner.
And the book meets its match in the very fine UK narrator, Nick McArdle.
    Five stars, all around.
A Great Book by Britain's most unsung author
Derek Robinson has written a number of novels, most of which I have read and I have really really enjoyed all of them. This one is no exception.
The black humour, technical detail, characters all hit the mark for me. His first novel (Goshawk Squadron) was recommended for the Booker Prize in 1971, Another, Piece of Cake, was made into a tv series in the late 80's.
Please just buy this and if you love it, spread the word. Derek Robinson deserves wider recognition!
There are other works by the Author available in audio format, but for some reason they aren't here on Audible (yet). I will download them as soon as they are, despite having read them in hard copy. They are that good.
    An Insult to the V-Force
The plot is ludicrous, the characters are two-dimensional caricatures, and the puerile humour of most of the dialogues quickly becomes annoying. The author clearly does not understand how the V-Force operated, and there are numerous, serious, technical errors. It is easy to see why this book, by an already established author, originally had to be self-published.
    Hullo Russia Goodbye England
Another excellent air story by Derek Robinson.
Humor and Life in the style of Hornets nest. A greate read

The New York Times best-selling author of The Empty Chair and The Devil's Teardrop is back, displaying his "ticking-bomb suspense" (People) in this never-before-published thriller.
Every New York City neighborhood has a story, but what John Pellam uncovers in Hell's Kitchen has a darkness all its own. The Hollywood location scout and former stuntman is in the Big Apple hoping to capture the unvarnished memories of longtime Kitchen residents, such as Ettie Washington, in a no-budget documentary film. But when a suspicious fire ravages the elderly woman's crumbling tenement, Pellam realizes that someone might want the past to stay buried.
As more buildings and lives go up in flames, Pellam takes to the streets, seeking the twisted pyromaniac who sells services to the highest bidder. But Pellam is unaware that the fires are merely flickering preludes to the arsonist's ultimate masterpiece, a conflagration of nearly unimaginable proportion, with Hell's Kitchen - and John Pellam - at its blackened and searing epicenter.
    Critic Reviews:
"[A] taut, well-paced, and highly atmospheric thriller." (Amazon.com review)

    Good if creepy story
I debated between a three and a four. This is not great, but a good story about an interesting neighborhood in NYC - a part of the city I only rarely visited when I lived there and about which I knew very little. It is a bit violent, perhaps gratuitously, but it was a fun listen. I listen to keep myself entertained while running, doing yard work etc. So I'm not after great literature, at least not most of the time. And this kept my interest.
    John Pelham Keeps You Hooked
This is the third novel in the Location Scout/John Pelham series. Pelham is a film director, filmaker and a location scout with a dark past. In Hells Kitchen, he is filming a verbal history documentary of the infamous New York neighborhood.
And true to form, the 72 year old star subject of his film is suddenly accused of arson and murder, placing Pelham square in the middle of an intense and harsh police investigation. Its true to form because like the first two novels, the police and fire inspectors are laser focused on the wrong suspect. But even with the obvious formula, the remarkable characters make this a really fun listen.
