    Title: A Singular Romance

    Narrator: Don Colasurd Jr.
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 1 hr and 26 mins

    Publisher: Books to Go Now
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 1 votes
    Genres: Romance, Historical
    Publisher's Summary:
This is a neo-Victorian romance of fine mysteries, upset stomachs, and torrential downpours. Julia can't handle people. Lara can't handle Julia. Neither of the two knows how to deal with the feelings they bring out in each other.
When a shared love of Victorian mysteries bring these two mismatched girls together, can the matchmaking track record of the Monday Mystery Society remain unbroken in the face of overwhelming odds?
    Members Reviews:
Julia never expected to fall in love with a girl, let alone a girl in a Victorian dress and goth-style makeup!
A book group as therapy? There have been worse ideas, but Julia is not a 'joiner' and she resents being asked to deal with her social phobias. She loves to read, but showing up and speaking up about mysteries is sheer torture... until a very unusual girl joins the group. Warning: this sweet and fairly sultry romance is about two young women falling in love with each other. I don't swing that way myself but I found the story of Julia being drawn out of her shell very moving.
Unexpected Beauty in this Powerful Tale
Unexpected love strikes (again!) at Acorn's book club. I have read all of them, and this third tale is in my mind the most gentle, and the most darkly beautiful. There is an awkwardness along with great beauty in how Lara and Julia approach each other and the world. You might even feel tears coming on!
    Love is Love
This third installment in the Monday Mystery Society is a gentle tale of a young woman gripped in fear of social situations who is sent to the book club as therapy. She meets an unusual, hauntingly beautiful woman who could be a character out of a Victorian murder mystery. This is their story.

    Narrator: Mil Nicholson
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 9 hrs and 36 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 06-09-15
    Publisher: Kitty Campanile
Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 1 votes
    Genres: Romance, Historical
    Publisher's Summary:
Mary Ryder is a housewife, her once fiery nature ground down by a life of cleaning and cooking for her drunken husband, Nigel. A chance meeting with idealistic mineworker Lewis Evans makes her realize what love can be.
Mary made a commitment to Nigel: for better, for worse. When the National Union of Mineworkers calls a strike, Mary doesn't realize it will change her and the town forever.
A tale of love, friendship, and solidarity set against the backdrop of the 1984-85 miners' strike, Mighty Like a Rose follows Mary on her journey from neat detached house to the front line of the UK's longest-running industrial dispute.
    Members Reviews:
    Recommended read.
Having been born in the mid 90s, Iâm taken aback that our leading lady, Mary, of this book mighty like a rose is relying on her husband, Nigel, for housekeeping money.
I like how I am drawn straight into feeling a part of this. I feel empathy for Mary and that, by the way that author, Kitty Campanile, writes this character, she is a very attractive young lady. The small comedic touches are good and I like how immediately I can tell the era this book is set in and how the author has entwined details of this era into Maryâs life.
The pace to this book is slow and the story is told in the first five or six chapters, leaving the rest of the book to be a slow burning chronicle of the miners strike, which in places left me feeling quite emotional. I do think Mary came across as pathetic in parts of this. I know this is a novel about her life but it felt like a pity party on occasion and with this book telling the stories of other characters, some outweighed each other with their significance in the narrative. I also am not sure about the she leaves one man, who is effectively a douchebag, and takes up with another man, who is effectively a kind, generous and sweet angel. Itâs a fairy-tale. Couldnât the angel have had at least one flaw?
This is an excellent novel, of historical importance, about the unity and spirit of a community. If there is a second book to mighty like a rose Iâm not complaining.
A touching love story set against a gritty background
This is a love story set in Northern England against the backdrop of the 1984-1985 coalminers' strike. The author is at her best when she describes the effects of the food and clothing shortages on a small Yorkshire town and how the women of the community come together to help their men and each other through deprivations they face. I would have liked to hear more about the motivation behind the action of the heroine's abusive husband. However, the care she has for her mineworker lover and his family is touchingly portrayed. The story is easy to read and I can recommend it to anyone likes well written romantic stories set against a gritty background.

    Publisher's Summary:
High-class madam Katherine Winter caters to wealthy men and vows nobody in her Kansas bordello will suffer the abuse she endured in the horrific marriage she escaped. She can choose her lovers, but longs for one who can match her in bed and out. Her senses tell her Daniel Creed is that man, a man with a dark secret like herself, a man who would do anything to protect what is his. But he is a lawman, and dallying with him is playing with fire.
Sheriff Daniel Creed has known Katherine Winter is the husband-killer on the wanted poster since she came to his town. The reward he would get for turning her in would make him rich, but something about the aloof beauty stirs longing inside him. There is no future for a half-breed gunslinger hiding behind a badge and a wanted woman, except life on the run. So he keeps his mouth shut, figuring the most he can ever hope for is to love the lady from afar and protect her.
He never banked on the bounty hunter from his past hunting down Katherine, then setting the town ablaze; all to force Daniel into a fiery showdown that may kill them all.
    Members Reviews:
    Christmas Showdown
With the townsfolk gone before the big snow storm hit, Daniel Creed can't believe he let Katherine Rose a.k.a. Mary Kaye Dowd leave before he arrested her. Actually, he didn't have any intent on arresting her. It probably had to do with his ever increasing emotions for her, but Daniel can never act on his feelings.
When checking the town one last time, Daniel is shocked to discover the object of his desire is still in town. As he checks out her establishment, the heat between Katherine and Daniel flare to life bringing about their mutual feelings. A bounty hunter comes to town intent on capturing her, but will Daniel and Katherine manage to elude him?
Christmas Showdown is a good western story set in 1885. The setting and the characters jump off the pages in this quick read. Daniel and Katherine can't deny what they feel and they go with it bringing much life and passion between these pages.

    4.5 Blue Ribbons!
Katherine Winter swore when she got out of her abusive second marriage that no woman under her protection would ever suffer the horrendous abuse that she herself suffered. Having catered to men and their baser needs, Katherine pretty much knows what she does and doesn't want; and what she wants is Sheriff Daniel Creed. She recognizes that he is one man who can satisfy her needs while offering her protection.
Sheriff Daniel Creed never expected Madam Katherine to still be in town. When he sees a light in her bordello during a blizzard, he can't stop himself from checking on her. When she opens her doors and admits him into her sanctum, he finds himself powerless to resist her charms. No matter that her face is on the wanted poster in his pocket and that the money alone from turning her in would make him a rich man.
Daniel and Katherine find comfort and love in each other's arms. Their scorching interlude is disrupted when a man bent on revenge comes to call. Daniel quickly realizes that for Katherine to remain safe, he must take the other man down.
CHRISTMAS SHOWDOWN had all the elements of a story that I love. It was a western historical, the hero was a sexy half-breed lawman determined to protect the woman he loved, and the heroine was an innocent victim fighting to forget past abuse.

I did like this book, buy what the Hell, with the ending? What happened with the Marshall, Lil, and why was Lil even there? Matt and Amanda made a awesome pair and I understood why she was transported there, but this is a book that left me confused.
    Love time travel books
Great time travel book..could not put the book down for a minute. Looking forward to more books from the author.

First readers are greeted with Amanda while in modern day New York City. She is a part time librarian and dreams of finding a man who is honest, strong and willing to protect a woman with his life. Little does Amanda know that she has found him but he is from a different time and planning to take her back where she will be all his.
The author mentions how the Amanda travelled from modern New York to Calico but she did not mention how Matt travelled from Calico to modern New York. Not a big deal but I would be interested in how this happened and how Matt found this open hold in time.
I enjoyed the added twist of the villain and who he was but he was too easy to figure out.
If I could change one thing about the book it would be me personally in Amanda's place. J Yes I am obsessed.
I recommend this book to any who enjoy reading romance.

    A Great Read!
Have you ever wanted to travel back in time? Let Jennifer Lynn take you there...but not just anywhere. In her latest novel New Prints in Old Calico we are transported into a time and place when men were men and women had to be tough to survive. In this well-paced novel we feel with Amy, the protagonistâwith her fears, frustration and desires. The dialogue is natural and authentic, supplementing the wild west mining town imagery to create the perfect picture of those long gone days.

    Members Reviews:
    Great!
Very good! Definitely a new perspective to an old story!
    Disappointing.
Honestly, this book feels like it was written by a middle-schooler who read some romance novels, watched some Robin Hood movies, then decided to write a book. The author's note claimed that the author is knowledgeable about the subject matter, but she never once demonstrated this knowledge. There is no historical reference whatsoever aside from the existence of Prince John and King Richard. Much of the one-liners and minor "original" characters are actually borrowed (I use the term loosely) from the many other renditions of the Robin Hood legend in book and film from the last century.
SPOILERS AHEAD: from this point on, expect no holds barred when it comes to spoilers.
The heroine, Marian/Robin, is the constant victim of Prince John and Sheriff Guy, but her/her father's importance is never explained. Why is the Prince who wants to take over the realm spending 100% of his time in Nottingham playing sadistic mind (and hinted at, sex) games with Guy and Marian? Also, Marian/Robin's twin brother Friar Tuck is somehow completely forgotten about by anyone of any import including Marian's childhood friend/crush. The only son of a nobleman is gifted to the church? And then forgotten??
In addition, the heroine develops a deep martyr complex nigh immediately. Her father is murdered and she is taken to dungeons to be subject to various tortures that are completely skipped over and only vaguely referenced to by the angsty heroine. She feels abandoned and alone despite never being abandoned (thanks, Bess) and stubbornly refuses to be emotionally open with anyone - including her twin and her lover. Combine this with her ill-conceived plans to escape John and Guy only to come rushing back to them for little to no reason, and you have to wonder about Stockholm syndrome.
Speaking of her lover, I enjoyed the originality of having Will Scarlet as the love-interest, but he proved un-inspirational. He is unerringly devoted to her despite not having seen her since she was a child. His character is all over the board. One second he is tender and loving, the next he is in a fiery rage, and then back to sweetness in a flash. He claims to be patient and "wait forever" for her sexually, then proceeds to pressure her. When he finally finds out that she is Robin, he says he can "never forgive" her (after just declaring his undying love)... and then asks her to marry him the next time he sees her. Is this man suffering from a bi-polar disorder?
The band of Merry Men she stumbles upon proceed to follow her within hours of trying to beat her into submission.
