Flow is “a state in which people are so involved in an activity that nothing else seems to matter; the experience is so enjoyable that people will continue to do it even at great cost, for the sheer sake of doing it” - Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi
Flow is when we feel and perform at our best, and while it frequently has something of a mystical quality to it, we are all familiar with it to various degrees. In this episode, Alex and I also talk about those moments when we are 'self-conscious', which is basically the opposite of being in flow, and tend to feel bad and perform poorly.
And then we seek to answer the important but elusive question: how can we experience more flow in our everyday life, even at will. In the second half, I share the best way I know to experience the sense of ease, peace and subtle joy which are all characteristics of flow.
My book Champion Thinking: How To Find Success Without Losing Yourself - is now on general release. Drawing on some of my favourite interviews over the last five years, I want to challenge our ideas about 'success', and where peace, joy and fulfilment are truly to be found. The recognition that we are not our thoughts, we are aware of our thoughts is fundamental.
