HOW TO LIFE - Adulting for the 21st Century episodes

  • HTL 027: Get Your Head IN the Clouds and Re-Imagine Your Life, with Julie DeLucca-Collins

#27 - Today we are going to talk about RE-IMAGINING YOUR LIFE.

How do you do that? Well, it is fun actually. You get to daydream. And imaging. And visualize.

Wait, you may say. Isn’t that frivolous? Or lazy? Or irresponsible. Or. ..or... or…

    No. It absolutely is not.

Dreaming and visualizing is actually how you begin to create your future reality.

It is the planting of the seed.

As Henry David Thoreau so eloquently described it:

GO CONFIDENTLY IN THE DIRECTION OF YOUR DREAMS. LIVE THE LIFE YOU’VE IMAGINED.

This happens to be the motto of today’s guest, Julie Delucca Collins. She is a self-proclaimed “dreamer” and proud of it!

Oh, and she is a CEO, and a podcast host, and a coach. You are going to love her. She is fun and funny. And she is just so cool.

She has accomplished a lot in her life  and she will tell you that it all started with a dream.

ST#003: It is the first of the month which means it is time for another bonus episode of the How To Life podcast!

I have read it countless times to my kids yet no one can remember how we got it. But it is a gem!

It is the tale of a dentist mouse and his wife who treat, and foil, a clever fox who has plans to eat them even after they helped him out.

So sit back and relax, or snuggle up, and enjoy this delightful little story, Doctor DeSoto by William Steig.

  • HTL 025: How To Follow Your Intuition, with Miinkay Yu

#25- At the start of this year I had not even considered doing a podcast.

When it was suggested to me, I had no idea how to even go about starting one. But something sparked. And I kept seeing things about it. I heard people talking about it. It was showing up on my radar, and then it dawned on me that these might be signs.

So I tuned into my intuition and followed where it led. And here I am.

And how absolutely perfect that this episode is about how to hear that inner voice, how to recognize what it is saying to you. How to focus-on, rather than dismiss, that guidance.

I am joined today by Miinkay Yu who is a career coach and helps people define what it is they want.

She has a wonderful story of how she was led to this calling and she shares some tips and wisdom so that you can start doing it too.

It's there. You have it even if you haven’t heard it. Yet.

Your inner voice is calling to you. It always is and it is really patient. It is waiting for you to tune it to it. It will never give up on you.

And spoiler alert: It always leads you to good stuff!

  • HTL 024: Focus, Follow-Through, and Finish. How To Complete That Goal, w/ Diann Wingert

#24 - Today is a topic that probably everyone can relate to.

How many of us procrastinate? How many suffer watching the minutes pass by until the “zero hour” is upon us before we snap into action? And how many, after getting away with it, swear we will never put ourselves in that position again, but yet we do?

It is such an uncomfortable and demoralizing loop. Isn’t it?

But good news; there are skills and tools you can learn to help yourself end this unpleasant roller coaster ride.

Diann Wingert is my guest today and she is a psychotherapist by training, a coach by choice, and an ADHD-fueled entrepreneur! She helps others who have big dreams but who struggle with focus, direction & sticking with a goal all the way to the finish line. She specializes in women with ADHD and has ADHD herself.

If you have ADHD or think you might, or if you just have been beating up on yourself for not being organized and focused, then Diann is going to shed some happy light on you.

Here is the truth: You are not broken, or lazy, or irresponsible, or less-than in ANY way. You just need some mentoring and tools.

Diann has learned, and now teaches others how to tame distractions, find their focus, and finish what they start.

The tools and techniques she is about to speak of apply to everyone who has trouble following something through to completion whether you have ADHD or not!

  • HTL 023: How To Tune-Out The Negative Talk, with Mike Lander

#23 - My guest today is Mike Lander who has followed a very interesting path that has led him to his current title of procurement director. Among other things, he negotiates the sales of businesses and handles millions and millions of dollars.

But this show is not about how to become a procurement director.

It is about how to ignore and tune out those people, those words, the voices that tell you that you are less than, not good enough, not smart enough, not educated enough, or didn’t come from the right environment.

It is about tuning INTO that voice inside of you that says DONT LISTEN TO THEM! LISTEN TO YOUR OWN VOICE.

Self- confidence is something that takes some nurturing. It is nice if someone else can do that for you, but that often doesn’t happen. It is very easy to allow someone else to define who you are and what you can do.

But with the awareness that it is YOU who defines who you are, and with a little encouragement from others who soared despite the being told they couldn’t, you can learn to listen to the only voice that matters YOURS. And make your life what you want it to be.

Mike Lander heard a lot of "NO" in his life. But he didn’t listen. He is here to tell you about his story and wants you to know that your own power and sense of self can take you anywhere.

  • HTL Storytime 002: Oscar, Cat About Town

ST#002 - I have another storytime for you!

In case you have no idea what I am talking about, a few weeks ago I released a bonus podcast where I read a story. Just a little bedtime story.

I had had some requests to do so, which amused me, so I recorded one. It was really well received. I was so shocked by that! I am glad so many liked it and honestly, I really enjoyed it too.

So, I have decided that I will release a bedtime story for you every month or so. And since it is the first of the month today. Here is a story that I didn’t discover until I had my own children. And I love this one!

It was written by James Harriot who was a veterinarian in Yorkshire England about 75 years ago. He has a collection of stories of things that actually happened in his practice. So enjoy Oscar, Cat About Town.

  • HTL 021: The Out-Of-The-Box Guide to Fitness, with Andrew Takata

#021 -  Today we are going to talk about the many facets of fitness. It is not just about looking good and looking like you are fit and in shape. So much comes into play that can either strengthen or diminish your overall fitness.

And you may be surprised to find out what those factors are!

I have a lot to share with you about this as does my guest today, Andrew Takata. Andrew is the Founder of HNL Movement which is an online company that focuses on a multidimensional approach to elevating your performance not only in sports and fitness but in health and life as well. He has degrees in athletic training, strength and conditioning, and nutrition. And I have some experience with the human body as well so this is a really fun talk!

I know I speak on behalf of Andrew and myself when I say we really want to show you that fitness is within reach for everyone. In fact, you are already most likely fit in many areas, you just didn’t know it.

  • HTL 020: Power Down to Power Up: The Importance of a Well-Rested Mind, Body, and Soul, with Dr. Laura Jaget

#020 - In this episode, I would like to share my insight on the importance of sleep and rest and taking breaks throughout the day.

I have come to this knowledge from my own experience in my own life and seeing how it affects others. As a chiropractor, I have seen so many people who have physical problems because of too much stress. NOT enough rest. The body just breaks down.

Why do so many try to push through fatigue? Why are you ignoring the signs?

Some of the reasons are the belief that if you aren't killing yourself you don't "want it" enough, you will be seen as lazy or weak, resting or napping is irresponsible, or everything will come crashing down if you aren't there to do it all!

In this podcast, I make a case for the necessity of shutting down for even a few minutes. I highlight all the very real and sound reasons for resting, pausing, and sleeping.

In fact, there is NO case for NOT doing it!

My hope is that you will have gained a new perspective after listening to this show. Resting is not lazy, it is leadership!

    Give yourself a break!!
