  • HTL 092: Can Failure Be a Good Thing? with Stephan Brezinsky

#92 _Living gracefully is so much easier when you are succeeding and everything is going well in your life.

It can be a little challenging when you hit some bumps.

And it is damn near impossible when you have failed.

I won’t sugar coat it; failure sucks!

The emotions and the feelings of worthlessness, self-pity, heartbreak - they are all real, and they are valid.

But as hard as it is to believe at the moment, it can be, and often is, a wonderful opportunity to grow and succeed.

I’ve failed. I have failed big time. Most everyone has. And if it has happened to you, and you are currently licking your wounds, it is my hope that the words you are about to hear will soothe you.

Stephan Brezinsky is an entrepreneur who has failed a few times and used the rubble as stepping stones to create his now successful media and marketing business.

This is his story of loss to triumph. He talks about the messy middle and honestly answers my questions about the emotions, the aftermath, and how and why he got up and kept going.

If you have comments or questions or if Stephan can help you with anything, please feel free to contact him.

  • HTL 091: No "Plan B"- Don't let your backup plan sabotage Plan A, with Gabby Braddock

#91- This episode is about how to stick with the original goal when pursuing your dreams. No Plan B allowed!

But, inevitably, things do start to slow down when fear and self-doubt creep in, which it almost always does.

This is an area of adulthood that tends to plague so many of us: giving up on our dreams because of…fear and self-doubt.

Those two things derail many from living the life they want to live.

If you want what you want then you have to keep that focus!

Having an escape plan in case it doesn’t pan out is not going to benefit you. It is too good an excuse to bail out!

Gabby Braddock is here today to talk about how to position yourself to succeed in your goals. Sometimes you need an outsider's perspective to show you that you are doing great!

Gabby is the CEO of No Plan B Consulting. She talks about her own path to success, and how she now helps others stick to their plan and see it through.

Whether you have a business that you want to succeed in, or personal goals that you want to reach, Gabby Braddock will convince you to stick to plan A.

  • HTL 090: How to Build a Habit (and make it stick), with Rotem Brayer

#90 - This has been the month of personal betterment on this show. I didn’t plan it, but I like the way it has unfolded.

We started off the year talking about goal setting.

But how can you set a goal if you feel confused? So the next week we talked about how to get unstuck in life.

That was good! We set a goal, we got out of the mud, now to declutter and focus. Last week we learned how to optimize productivity.

What do we need to do to make it all stick? Repetition! And in this episode, we are going to discuss what creates a habit. It is not random.

The process of forming a habit, good or bad, is the same.

It is easy to understand why bad habits are so hard to break when you know how they are formed in the first place.  This process is also why good habits are hard to create.

Today, I am speaking with psychotherapist, Rotem Brayer about the science behind a habit and the ways to build a new one.

You CAN break out of an old pattern and create a new habit that brings positivity to your life. The power is within you.

  • HTL 087: Goal Setting - Want to Make a Goal a Reality? 7 Steps to Make that Happen, with Dr. Laura Jaget

#87 - Since it is a brand new year I am going to talk about goal setting today.

Many see the new year as a blank slate. A time to set new goals and actually put some effort into making those goals a reality.

And since motivation is usually at a high at this time of year, let’s use that momentum to really make those resolutions stick.

I have been making a Goals List every year for the last 7 years.

Before I started doing it, I just accepted whatever.  It has been a good life, but at that time I didn’t know I had a say in how things turned out or that it could be better.

So when I decided to give this goal-setting a try, I was shocked at how possible my goals were.

I was also shocked when I realized I hadn’t been very deliberate about what I wanted in the past.

It was like going to a restaurant and saying, “I would like some food please”. You’ll just get a blank stare, or whatever.

You have to say what you want.

The good news is that it is just a formula and it is a mindset thing.

And right now is a perfect time to start honing that mindset thing!

So, I am going to teach you how to go about setting your goals list.

You can use this technique for any timeframe. You can make a list of goals you want to accomplish this year, as I have done, or just one goal you want to achieve this month.

You can make it as broad and general or as short and super-specific as you would like. The technique is the same.

In order to reach your goals, follow this framework. It is an easy formula and you probably do most of the steps at some point, just not in an organized fashion.

So let’s get deliberate and focused.

Here are 7 things that I do to reach my goals every year.

  • HTL 085: Transforming Education in the 21st Century with Open Source Learning, with Dr. David Preston

#85 - Today we are talking about transforming education, and how Open Source Learning is an evolving philosophy in meeting the needs of learners in the 21st Century.

I am speaking with Dr. David Preston, educator, consultant, and trailblazer in reforming education and changing the way students learn.

The traditional way we are taught in school was thrown into turmoil when the pandemic hit.

Trying to teach over the internet was a little chaotic at first, there was a little resistance, but most everyone adapted; teachers, students, administrators, parents. We all had to figure it out, and quickly at that. And, overall, it worked.

This came as a surprise to many, but not to Dr. Preston. He has been using the public internet to engage and empower students since 2006.

Dr. Preston calls it Open Source Learning and his years of success in teaching this way are starting to gain notice.

The pandemic proved to many others that this is a viable option to traditional brick and mortar schooling, and may very well be the model for digital transformation in education.

It is a fascinating concept and honestly a breath of fresh air when it comes to discussing education for the 21 century.
