  • Are today's graduates ready for an AI-powered workforce?

Jessica Biga-Wadstein, Canada’s country head at Pearson, and Coral Kennett, AWS Canada’s provincial government and education leader, discuss their collaborative research on AI readiness in Canada's workforce. They distinguish between AI skills gaps and readiness gaps, arguing that technical proficiency alone is insufficient—graduates need human capabilities like judgment, adaptability, and strategic intelligence to work effectively alongside AI. The conversation explores "pace friction" between rapidly evolving technology and slower-moving educational institutions, emphasizing the need for stronger partnerships between academia and employers to co-design practical, applied learning experiences.

This episode is presented in partnership with Pearson.

  • Why Canada should deploy many more drones to fight wildfires

Ryan Gariepy, VP of robotics at Rockwell Automation and chair of the Canadian Robotics Council, says Canada should make much greater use of drones to spot wildfires early and support firefighters on the ground. He argues the technology already exists, but it's being underused and could be better integrated across governments, industry, and the military. He also addresses where artificial intelligence fits in, the barriers to adoption, and whether robotics could help reduce the growing cost of wildfires.

  • Eric Kaufmann: The woke era isn’t over yet

Eric Kaufmann, professor of politics at the University of Buckingham, examines the state of "wokeness" in Western democracies. He argues that while social momentum has shifted in the U.S., institutional identity politics remains deeply entrenched in Canada. Kaufmann discusses how the Liberal Party “colonized” Canadian identity in the 1960s, why Canadian conservatives are struggling to reclaim patriotic narratives, and the continuing crisis in academia where left-wing dominance stifles viewpoint diversity. He advocates for "ethical populism" over a slash and burn approach, and explains why he is creating a heterodox AI to counter progressive academic bias.

  • What blocking the Billy Bishop Airport expansion reveals about Canada's ability to build

Amanda Galbraith, co-founder and president of Oyster Group, and David Coletto, founder and chair of Abacus Data, join Sean Speer to discuss the Carney government's decision to block the Billy Bishop airport expansion in Toronto. They examine whether vocal minorities can derail major infrastructure projects, what this signals about Canada's capacity to build, and whether it undermines the prime minister's nation-building agenda.

In the second half, they explore conservative debates around supporting professional women and mothers, discussing workplace flexibility, fertility rates, and reconciling career ambitions with family life.

  • Will the climate issue fracture Carney's coalition?

Rudyard Griffiths and Sean Speer examine the tension between climate action and energy development under Prime Minister Mark Carney. They explore how devastating wildfires have reignited climate concerns among Canadians, threatening Carney's coalition as support for the NDP rises. They discuss whether Carney's pivot from climate champion to energy advocate is politically sustainable, and whether Conservatives can remain silent on environmental issues while pursuing electoral success.

In the second half of the show, they focus on the “tradwife” phenomenon, its prevalence in conservative circles, and how this traditionalism movement is a response to current economic realities.
