Well, that was unexpected. The Hawks were only supposed to have one pick (#7) on night one of the 2022 AFL Draft, but we ended up trading up to pick 18.
It was a decision that polarised the Hawks Insiders’ group chat — you can probably guess Angry Brad’s reaction — but ultimately a night where dreams came true for two new Hawks:
* Cameron Mackenzie - Pick 7.
* Josh Weddle - Pick 18.
There was so much to unpack on how it all unfolded, and we were joined by 320+ Hawks fans on Twitter Spaces to discuss what took place as soon as the last name was read on Monday night.
We had Ashley Browne (@hashbrowne) dial in from the draft room to give us some colour from the night; expert analysis from our resident draft guru Danny Prins (@daniel_prins); plus comment, talkback, and discussion aplenty.
After our pick swaps, Hawthorn now has picks 37, 45, 80, 82 and 84 left on the board, with our List Manager Mark McKenzie saying we could take as many as three players tonight.Be sure to join us live on Twitter Spaces tonight immediately after the draft as we discuss our additional new recruits and run an eye over those we missed out on.
