  • Episode 38: How a kid from Clovis named Mike Lamb went on to support NFL players with "Hall of Fame Health".

If you're from Sacramento this is a name you'll recognize as Mike Lamb was my co-host for several years.  Not only is he a dear friend but he's also got some great stories and he's doing some incredible work.  Our conversation today is not only about his time playing ball at USC but his relationship with Oakland Raiders Al Davis, the players that came from that era and his current endeavors to bring awareness to the mental health aspect of the game.  His stories will bring a different perspective of the sport that we both love and his passion now with his involvement in "Hall of Fame Health" that works to support players with health issues as a result of football related injuries.  Head trauma and concussion protocols have and will continue to change sports in the future.  We have a candid discussion today about a variety of things that I think you'll find entertaining, informative and, in some ways, helpful as you may be considering sports for you children.  I hope you enjoy the show as much as I enjoyed the conversation.

  • Grant's Rant: 2-11-21 Do you know what Tom Brady said to Tyrann Mathieu during the Super Bowl?

If you're paying any attention to social media regarding Tom Brady having words with Tyrann Mathieu during the Superbowl, you'll know what I'm talking about.  Apparently, it was something so offensive that Tyrann refuses to say what was said other than that he couldn't repeat it and Tom Brady made an apology on social media.  Problem is, we don't really know what it was that was said. Did the league get involved and worried it was bad enough it could taint the NFL anointed one?  Was Tyrann asked not to repeat it?  Nobody seems to be talking and there's a reason for that.  What was it?  We should know.

  • Grant's Rant: 2-10-21 What do you think about Luke Walton of the Sacramento Kings?

Let's take a minute to talk about Luke Walton.  When the team is losing, he's the worst coach in the NBA and he gets bashed to pieces.  When the team is winning, silence.  C'mon folks, you can't have it both ways.  The Sacramento Kings do not and have not had a coaching problem.  Not now, not even in the recent past.  They have other issues that distract them from the mission and purpose of the team.  But right now it appears that those things may have subsided and we're getting a chance to see what the Coach can do.  7 of the last 8 games against tough teams and they've come out  with the "W".  Let's talk about it a for a minute today...

  • Episode 37: Who's done play-by-play in 10 different leagues, called big-time heavyweight boxing matches and crazy events? Steve Albert tells some great stories.

I cannot say enough good things about my guest today.  Steve Albert is simply remarkable for what he's accomplished in his career and letting him tell his stories of how just about everything came to be for him was so much fun.  You're going to hear him talk about the Tyson/Holyfield bite fight, his great stories from his hockey career, the oddities he's called like Robbie Knievel's jumps and the athletes and people he's come to know along the way.  He may be retired but you're going to think he's about 50 years old.  This was some of the most fun I've had speaking with people since I started the show.  I know you're going to love it since he covers a lot of ground in a short period of time.  There's something for everyone here. Enjoy, laugh along with me and smile at his memories of the events he's called.

  • Grant's Rant: 2-9-21 Why all the talk about Superbowl team coordinators becoming head coaches?

Right now, the social media space is heating up with all the talk about Todd Bowles being a head coach.  Why is it that when a team gets into the Superbowl, the coordinators, offesive, defensive, are then almost expected to be ready to be head coaches somewhere?  And more so, like Todd Bowles of Tampa Bay or Eric Bieniemy of Kansas City, why all this distinction about race?  Really?  Isn't it about that quality of coaching that person brings to the table and then demonstrates in an interview?  Enough about it already.  Let's give the consideration to the most talented and likely to succeed.  Right now there are many black assistant coaches, coordinators and other personnel in the league and each and every one of them deserves the opportunity to grow into the next position of advancement.  But let's, please, evaluate talent on the basis of skill and all the other attributes of great coaches as opposed to just expecting that since they got to the Superbowl that they deserve to be a head coach.  Oh boy, I have more to say in today's podcast.  This one really fires me up!

  • Grant's Rant: 2-8-21 Kansas City just demonstrated the value of the offensive line.

The Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers played in the Superbowl yesterday and Kansas City really never had a chance.  Mahomes was rushed all day and could never get into his rhythm.  Losing one great offensive lineman is tough, losing two, as we saw yesterday makes it impossible to get anything going. And that's what we saw.  But there was more to the game yesterday that I'll talk about in today's rant.

  • Episode 36: Grant's pick for the Superbowl and a little history in the broadcast booth from year's past.

On today’s podcast I want to shed a little light on the way Superbowls have been covered by the broadcast teams in the booth with a little opinion sprinkled in for good measure.  Wow, there have been some great talents in the broadcast booth over the years.  You’ll be surprised who the play-by-play teams have been and who some of the best are, in my opinion.  Names like Curt Gowdy, Pat Summerall, Merlin Olsen, Dick Enberg, John Madden, Greg Gumbel, Joe Buck, Troy Aikman… and others.  Amazing.  It’s all about chemistry and communication.  Can’t wait to see what we’re going to get this Sunday.  Oh, and I’ll have my picks for the game.  Maybe it’s the Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes, or it could be Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Or should I say the Tamp Bay Brady’s?  You want to know who I think is going to win?  Listen up.  Let’s get ready for Sunday together!

  • Grant's Rant: 2-5-21 Why is Brett Favre getting hammered for talking about Deshaun Watson?

The Green Bay Packers Brett Favre's comments about Deshaun Watson are  just an opinion.  He's entitled to that. What's the big deal?  Really.  If you're making 30+ million a year, why are you complaining about your job?  It's time for everybody to just step back a minute and take a breath.  There's nothing wrong with what Brett said.  Too many people are overly sensitive.  Hear me out and let me explain.  It's all on today's podcast.

  • Grant's Rant: 2-4-21 NBA All Star Game in spite of 24 games already cancelled? Why?

Picture this... Atlanta in March. Nice weather, sunshine and a great time for basketball. NBA All Stars coming to town with trainers and coaches and support folk. A stadium filled with the league's best athletes.  And a pandemic.  Then, during or on the way home they find out somebody or more than one of the players test positive.  There goes the season.  24 games have already been cancelled.  Why risk something that seems to be working right now?  Why put the remainder of the season in jeopardy by bringing, literally, the entire league together in one place in March?  Is it worth it? I'll give you my opinion in today's rant.

  • Grant's Rant: 2-3-21 CDC guidelines for Superbowl parties are ridiculous. Can't make this stuff up.

So this is a rant you just have to listen to for it's utter absurdity.  The Center for Disease Control has posted guidelines for those of you intending to attend a Superbowl party.  How about no cheering, chanting or drinking alcohol for beginners?  Are you freakin' kidding me?  This is a joke.  And there's a lot more I'll go off on when you listen in.  You're not going to believe how stupid this whole thing is.   And be sure to check me out on "Nofilter.net" at 3p PT tomorrow.  Should be a lot of fun.
