What will £8 get you these days? Well, a ticket to The Xennial Dome's Little Dome live at Machynlleth Comedy Festival this weekend (tickets available here) but back in 1993 you could get into Buckingham Palace for the same amount. I can't decide if that reflects well on us, them or the UK economy in the 31 intervening years, but it felt like something I should point out, at the very least. You can draw your own conclusions.
You could have also spent £8 on a bet on the Grand National (aka Horse Christmas) - and you'd have got that £8 back as the whole thing ended in chaos and refunds. That's what we discuss on the show this week with Horse Enthusiast, Esyllt Sears, and Horse Agnostic, Gareth Gwynn. We also cover Home Alone and, at one point, Squid Game, but I'm not even sure why or how with hindsight.

For many years, as part of his morning commute, Gareth Gwynn would pass Cafe Diana - an establishment dedicated to the memory of Diana, Princess of Wales. From the top of the 94 bus he dreamed that one day, in the future, he would visit. On that day, he would see for himself what Cafe Diana was all about. He would finally find out how it memorialized her and discover for himself what was on the menu. Well, he's pleased to say that day finally came... Sometime in 2012? Maybe 2013? Something like that. Certainly ages ago, well before he'd ever met Esyllt Sears and definitely before he owned his own portable sound recorder.
Nevertheless, he was happy to go back in 2024 so Esyllt could see it.
Gareth Gwynn and Esyllt Sears discuss April 2001 surrounded by photos of Princess Diana - who was still in the news in 2001 despite having died nearly 4 years earlier. They also cover Bridget Jones' Diary (the film) (the first one) and chocolate bar adverts which aren't for Flake.

It's a very special birthday episode featuring a former guest - Stand-up comedian, producer and director Stuart Laws. Stuart entered the world in April 1984 with a Twirl and a Splash. Literally. Having appearence once before to place mp3 CDs into the dome, he has now returned just in time for his 40th birthday, and for Esyllt Sears and Gareth Gwynn to talk him through some of the key moments from the month of his birth.

Sunday trading doesn't quite happen and IBM enter the laptop game a little late in this April 1986 edition of The Xennial Dome. Gareth Gwynn and Esyllt Sears have opposing ideas when it comes to whether or not shops should be open on a Sunday and maybe it's this kind of conflict which will see us shoot up the various podcast charts? Who knows.

I like doing a Leftovers episode because I get to change the image. It's another look back at some of the bits and bobs which Gareth Gwynn and Esyllt Sears failed to find time for in previous episodes. There's a whole section from January 2000 about the BBC's analogue answer to Big Brother, Castaway 2000. We've also got mentions of education secretary Kenneth Baker from February 1989 and a story about zoo animals which has nothing to do with February 2005.

In this final March episode, Gareth Gwynn and Esyllt Sears familiarize, or refamiliarize themsleves with Exxon Valdez mobile spill, the Pope's reaction to Like A Prayer and we find out the initial reaction to Tim Berners-Lee's proposal for the World Wide Web.

In this episode, reaction to The Neighbours Game continues - mainly revolving around the fact that Harold was in his 40s during the show's pomp. Nevertheless, Gareth Gwynn and Esyllt Sears don't let any of that get in the way of a look at March 1994 which encompasses the jewel in Alton Towers' crown, Nemesis, and the launch of BBC Radio 5 Live from the ashes of Radio 5.

How do you explain an album to a child? Where do you find an accomplice to commit a grave robbery? What is going on in late-1970s party political broadcasts? These are some of the questions raised, but not entirely answered, by Gareth Gwynn and Esyllt Sears in this edition of The Xennial Dome. Esyllt's birthday month sees Homebase and the London Marathon come under different levels of scrutiny and the episode culminates in a birthday quiz. Apt.

Gareth Gwynn and Esyllt Sears play the Neighbours board game. That's it. That's the podcast.

I'm So Not Over It is a comedy history podcast about things you'll remember from the first time round.
Each week comedy writers Gareth Gwynn and Esyllt…
It’s politics and pop culture for the eighties, nineties, noughties and beyond, delivered in 20 minute hits because we know what your attention span is like.
So if you remember Westlife but struggle with the Westland affair and if your favourite Aitken was a Tory MP or the one who co-wrote I Should Be So Lucky, we’ve got you covered in this ridiculous historical guide to the information age (even if that information came from a poorly recalled browse of Encarta ‘95).
These weekly episodes are interspersed with interviews with the people who lived through this period to understand whether it has had any bearing on the lives they lead today.
The perfect listen, whether you’re Generation X, Gen X, Xennial, Millennial, Generation Z, Gen Z or whatever Pepsi wants to call you.
I'm So Not Over It is brought to you by the team behind the award nominated Xennial Dome Podcast - Previous guests on that show include Nish Kumar, Jess Philips MP, Trevor & Simon, Isy Suttie and many more and those episodes can be found on the same podcast feed.
I'm So Not Over It is a Mighty Bunny Production.
