This research article proposes a new theory of team coaching, emphasizing three key features: coaching functions (motivational, consultative, educational) focused on task performance, optimal timing of interventions (beginnings, midpoints, ends of task cycles), and contextual conditions (unconstrained processes, well-designed teams).
The theory is presented with supporting propositions and evidence, highlighting the importance of considering team design and organizational context alongside coaching strategies. Ultimately, Wageman aims to advance understanding and provide practical guidance for team coaching.
