Inside Indiana Sports Breakfast with Kent Sterling

Frank Reich drives me crazy by qualifying every compliment he pays anyone!  Is Matt Ryan a great leader? "Yes, but all 53 of our players are great leaders!"  Just STOP preserving players feelings!

Rodrigo Blankenship is THE kicker as Verity is waived.  Paye should be good for the opener!

Jonathan Taylor and Nyheim Hines will be saved for Houston, but Tom Brady will play for the Bucs.

(at 13:38) Chet Holmgren will miss the 22-23 season with a Lisfranc injury!

(at 14:11) Indians voice Howard Kellman will live a dream as the radio voice of the New York Yankees!  This will be the third time the Hall of Famer has gotten a call up to the Majors, but his first with the Bronx Bombers!

Colts Camp plusses include Ryan, Michael Pittman, EJ Speed, Yannick Ngakoue, and games for Same Ehlinger.  There have been some non-plusses too!

(at 11:00) Jonathan Taylor needs to get the rust off before the opener, unlike last year.

(at 12:34) NFL's offseason easily professional sports best!

(at 13:45) Cubs could win sixth straight series today against the Cardinals at Wrigley!

Colts believe Kwity Paye's knee injury is minor, but he will undergo an MRI to be sure.

Former Bills punter Matt Haack signs as the replacement for Rigoberto Sanchez.  Haack's stats last year for punts downed inside the 20 were not close to Sanchez, but he's been good in the past.

(at 6:22) Five keys for Colts defense!

(at 10:51) Len Dawson passes away at 87.  He made Kansas City cool.

(at 11:42) Baseball makes another change to address another problem it does not have!

Colts trying to find another punter as Sanchez tears Achilles running sprints!  His work as a holder needs to be covered too!  Why was a punter running sprints anyway?

(at 8:28) Much of training camp just doesn't matter - like whether Sam Ehlinger is kept on the roster.

(at 10:39) Shaq Leonard will come off PUP as a part of the rehab process, not to end it.

(at 11:34) Tom Allen is keeping his starting quarterback decision a secret.  That will put the Hoosiers over the top!

(at 13:00) Hagerstown eliminated from Little League World Series, but the coach was perfect in communicating with his players!

Alec Pierce is calmer and smoother at the end of his rookie camp, and Reggie Wayne has a lot to do with that!

(at 5:37) Sam Ehlinger's roster status a week from today is meaningless.  Waived or kept, the Colts have the same chance to go to the playoffs!

(at 10:45) Jordan Geronimo's development is the key to IU Basketball going deep in the NCAA Tournament!  Trayce Jackson-Davis named preseason All-America.

(at 13:28) Andretti Autosports may build a $200M headquarters in Fishers!

(at 13:57) Albert Pujols continues to rake at age 42!

Colts part ways with WR D.J. Montgomery and DT Caeveon Patton as they are now eight days from trimming the roster to 53.

(at 6:17) My explanations as to why Sam Ehlinger is the third string QB have not compelled you to belive me, and that must be my failing.

(at 13:20) Pacers ranked fourth from the bottom by ESPN as the rebuild of Gainbridge Fieldhouse and the Pacers roster hit the home stretch!

(at 14:52) Hoosiers first opponent will have one game already under their belts when they hook up with Indiana in 11 days!  https://busr.com/kent

Sam Ehlinger is the fan favorite as third string QBs always are in the preseason!  Michael Strahan had a nice game against back-ups against the Lions.  Projecting them as starters - or even back-ups shows flawed logic with one preseason game left!    Cuts tomorrow for Colts.  They will get the roster down to 80 by 4p.  The question about Ehlinger is whether the Colts try to practice

(at 12:25) Hagerstown back in action at the Little League World Series at 3p today against Tennesee!

(at 13:09) At least one Indiana State football among three killed in a car crash on SR 46 in Riley.

(at 13:58). Cubs have won five straight series - five-game series against the Cardinals starts tonight!

Sam Ehlinger with a stellar day! Dez Patmon and Mike Strachan flashed too as the Colts second and third units moved the ball.  The final truly and utterly meaningless preseason game is behind us - did anyone earn a roster or practice squad spot today?

Sam Ehlinger is going to shine tomorrow!  Fans will shout for him to be the backup instead of Nick Foles - and so it is always when a third string QB plays in the preseason!

(at 2:08) Rick Venturi is a treasure for Colts fans and media alike.  He's is a special teacher of the game, and I share a rule of thumb Rick employs to see who the Colts will keep on the final roster!

Will Matt Ryan finally be the quarterback who can win an opener for the Colts for the first time since 2013? That's almost six year prior to Andrew Luck's retirement!  I'm bullish on Matt being that guy.

(at 10:10) Yannicvk Ngakoue is awesome on Twitter, but he needs to get to the opposing quarterback a bunch too!  Kickers will be worth watching tomorrow too.

Matt Ryan and most Colts starters will get tomorrow off, but jobs will be won or lost!  August-19 is a virus that will continue to spread tomorrow, but a 100% effective vaccine will be distributed on September 11!

(at 6:10) Seven things Colts fans should look for tomorrow when the Lions visit Lucas Oil Stadium!  A winning score is not one of them!

(at 10:00) Bears fans should celebrate now because the regular season will not be kind!

(at 10:40) Hagerstown wins, and so can youth baseball kids you coach if you follow my advice.

(12:19) Deshaun Watson just doesn't get it, so what good can counseling do?
