Jim Irsay says about Quenton Nelson extension, "I see that getting done." He singled out Tennessee as the team the Colts need to beat to win the AFC South. Is Irsay talking as he does a reason the Colts win or lose? Likely not, but it seems not to be a big help. Drew Ogletree likely tore his ACL yesterday, so one of the BIG plusses of camp so far is going to be shelved for quite a while.
(at 9:45) Michael Pittman needs to mimic hockey legend Gordie Howe when frustrated by an opponent.
(at 11:15) Pac-12 schools will lose $13M each per year with USC and UCLA joining the Big 10. Merging with the remnants of the Big 12 would only involve more schools in their cash flow problem.

Frank Reich says about Ogletree knee injury, "It didn't look good." Matt Ryan was almost perfect today - 10-of-11 with three touchdowns.
(at 3:39) If you want Reich fired if the Colts don't make the playoffs. A look at the 10 new NFL head coaches only has one I would take over Reich, so be carefull what you wish for!
(at 10:24) Jim Irsay did his impression today of Don Ameche in the Ron Howard film Cocoon!
(at 11:38) Indiana Pacers schedule was released today - regular season opens with three home games; the first is against the Wizards on October 19.

Isaiah Ford, Michael Young out at wide receiver - Michael Strachan activated off PUP. Lions coming to Grand Park tomorrow, and they will be here to compete - just as every team would.
(at 2:45) Colts are -125 to win the AFC South! Are you better off taking longer odds on the Jaguars?
(at 8:07) Colts lost all four of their "coin-flip" games last season. Was it because of coaching, QB play, soft defenses late?
(at 11:05) Indiana's shift of Donaven McCulley from QB to wide receiver - will it work?
AND Dave Calabro buzzes the house in Chopper 13!

Matt Ryan knows his job is to be ready in Houston September 11th, not August 13th in Buffalo. All Colts work is designed to max out chance to beat Texans, so DO NOT believe what you see this Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium against the Lions. Colts staff of assistant position coaches is excellent.
(at 10:59) Frank Reich needs to stop the reverse engineering of winning. It just doesn't work.
(at 12:43) Tiger Woods will meet with PGA Tour pro's about how they can make the tour stronger. Will they listen?
(at 13:48) White Sox television product is so superior to the Cubs, I'm watching the Sox more than the Cubs - and that's ridiculous!

Preseason games are about improvement, not victory! Wrapping yourself in the frustration of losing or the pride of winning after a preseason game is absurd. Believing Colts wide receivers have a lot of improving to do appears to be very wise though!
(at 8:47) Rodrigo Blankenship takes the lead in the Colts kick-in through Jake Verity's miss, and while he shouldn't hope for Verity misses, he also shouldn't regret benefitting from them.
(at 11:28) Aqib Talib's brother is under arrest for murdering an opposing youth football coach, which is just awful. Adults continue to be the worst part of youth sports, and this is a hideous episode that maybe can pivot us toward understanding what youth sports is all about.
(at 15:00) Pete Carill, the coach of perennial thrilling NCAA Tournament underdog Princeton, dies at 92.

Colts preseason opening loss lacks excellence, but that's the point. Frank Reich says Matt Ryan "sharp" - I beg to differ. Kylen Granson, Jelani Woods, and Andrew Ogletree look like a good group of tight ends.
(at 9:28) Why the Colts will practice starters against the Lions but not play them on Saturday in front of paying customers is a solid question!
(at 10:45) Indiana Fever season comes to a wretched end.
(at 11:15) Indiana Football undecided on a starting quarterback, which brings to mind an old saying about starting quarterbacks.

Colts over/under for wins is 1/2 game more than last year's total of nine. Are Ryan over Wentz, Ngakoue over Muhammad, and Gilmore over Rhodes enough to get the Colts a 10th win? Pierce, Woods, Raimann, and Cross are unknowns, but they could help too!
(at 12:43) Ohio State is the best football program in the Big 10 by such a huge margin it might be time to relegate them up to the SEC!
(at 13:26) Indiana is a five-point favorite to open with a win against Illinois. Is anyone ready to invest in a Hoosier team winless in the Big 10 over the last 20 months?

Colts will continue to prepare for the season in tomorrow night's preseason opener! For Matt Ryan, it's all about timing - but for the tight ends it might be about which three of four are kept. Roster spots are at stake, and that is more important than the score.
(at 10:53) Butler Basketball had a perfect trip to Europe, and it wasn't just about the 4-0 record.
(at 11:12) If Indiana Football is ready to win, we will find out three weeks from tonight!

Matt Ryan might just be the perfect quarterback for these Colts - as long as Yannick Ngakoue and Kwity Paye can get to the opposing QB. Frank Reich still unsettled about the kicker.
