November 01, 2021 #204 Lilly King on being outspoken, dealing with losing, skipping SC Worlds
Lilly King is the fastest woman in history over 50 (29.40) and 100 LCM Breaststroke (1:04.13). At the 2016 Olympics, her first international swim meet, she became Olympic Champion in the 100 Breaststroke and helped Team USA win the Women's 4x100 Medley Relay. She won the 50 and 100 Breast at 2017 World Champs. And yet again at 2019 World Champs. At the 2020 Olympics, Lilly earned 2x silver medals (200 Breast, 4x100 MR) and a Bronze (100 Breast).
Swimming for Ray Looze at Indiana University, she won the 100 and 200 Breaststroke 4 years in a row at NCAA Championships. She still trains for Ray at IU but she performs for the Cali Condors of the ISL. She is skipping SC World Champs for the ISL this year.

Amanda Beard is a 4x Olympian (1996, 2000, 2004, 2008) and 7-time Olympic medalist (2 gold, 4 silver, 1 bronze). Just 14 years old at the Atlanta Olympics, she blasted onto the scene winning silver in both Breaststrokes and gold as part of Team USA's 4x100 Medley Relay.
She went on to have a storied career:
Bronze in Sydney in the 200 Breast.
Silver in Athens in the 200 IM!
Silver in Athens on the 4x100 MR.
Gold in Athens in the 200 Breast.
Plus, a World Record at the 2003 World Championships...
Amanda grew up in Southern California swimming for Dave Salo at Irvine NOVA alongside Jason Lezak. She swam for Frank Busch at the University of Arizona for two years before giving up her eligibility to go pro.

Olympic swim coach Bruce Gemmell is a coach for Nation's Capital Swim Club (NCAP), USA Swimming's premier club team with 14 locations, 1800+ athletes, and 65+ coaches. Most recently they produced three Olympians: Katie Ledecky (the GOAT), Andrew Gemmell (Bruce's son), and Jack Conger.
Bruce was an OT qualifier himself, swimming at the University of Michigan, where he learned all about energy zones and Jon Urbanchek's famous color system.
In this conversation, Brett asks a lot of questions about training Katie Ledecky and his own son, Andrew, who was training partners with her leading up to the 2016 Rio Games.

Coleman Stewart is a professional swimmer for the Cali Condors. He grew up in York, PA swimming for Erik Posegay at North Baltimore Aquatic Club. He developed his underwater kick at NC State with Braden Holloway and became NCAA Champion in the 100 Backstroke.
Most recently, he broke the World Record in the 100 SCM Backstroke in a regular season ISL meet in Naples, Italy. His goal was to show up in better shape than most and win a lot of money.
His freestyle is pretty good, too. Coleman finished 8th in the 100 Free at US Olympic Trials.
And, of course, his mustache game is strong.

At the 2012 London Olympics, Tyler Clary won the 200 Backstroke.
Nine years later, he underwent successful open heart surgery to fix a leaky aortic valve. For every pint of blood his heart tried to pump, ½ a pint flowed backwards.
He won Olympic gold with a heart operating at only 70% efficiency.
Unbelievable.

He joins us LIVE from Budapest to talk about breaking the American Record in the Men's 50 Fly this past week at the FINA World Cup Series. This was a best time for him by a few tenths.
We talk about training underwater, being addicted to racing, his love for short course, and being left off of several SC World Championship teams based on LCM qualifications. Marko Malvela is a 5x Olympic Swimming Coach from Finland. He currently coaches 3 of the 5 Finnish swimmers that competed in Tokyo. This includes Ari-Pekka Liukkonen (been together for 16 years), Mimosa Jallow, and Fanny Teijonsalo (who has been a guest on Dive Inside LIVE).
