Eben Alexander, MD, is a former professor of neurosurgery at Harvard Medical School and author of Proof of Heaven, The Map of Heaven, and (with Karen Newell) Living in a Mindful Universe.

Here he reflects back on the near-death experience he had ten years ago. He goes into detail regarding the medical condition that triggered his coma. He describes his condition as both a medical and a spiritual journey – with life-transforming implications. He shares his philosophy of life, including his belief in reincarnation and his familiarity with the literature in the field of interdisciplinary consciousness studies. In particular, he shares the spiritual inspiration of his connection of what he describes as the one mind.
