After 670 daily episodes, it’s officially time to wrap up the first season of the Intelligent Intoxication podcast. This is the perfect opportunity to reflect on what I’ve learned:

    • you never will be ready - you just need to be willing
  • confusion isn’t problem - it’s a reminder to remain present and discern the one next actionable step
  • you must create consistency in a manner that aligns with who you really are
  • done is better than perfect
  • sometime your best is C+ work
  • comparing my progress to someone else’s steals my sense of abundance and gratitude
  • create an audience in advance for what you want to create
  •

I invite you to consider these questions:

    • How willing are you to begin?
  • How willing are you to use confusion to clarify your one next step?
  • How willing are you to lean into your own type of consistency?
  • How willing are you to finish, rather than to perfect?

There are times when we all reach out for “help” from others when what we are really seeking is the permission to trust ourselves and do what we need to do to have our own back.

I invite you to consider these questions:

    • When do you notice seeking permission to trust yourself?
  • What do you do or feel when permission is denied?
  • What do you deny yourself the permission to be or do?

In my not-so-humble opinion, we are here to offer meaningful, impactful contributions to others. However, if you need attention or an audience for your contributions, you may be tipping into virtue-signaling.

I invite you to consider these questions:

    • When do you notice needing attention for your contributions?
  • If no one noticed your contributions, would you still offer them? Why or why not?

If you’re in the habit of saying YES even when you mean NO or NOT YET, changing this habit requires smalls shifts:

    • identify how YES or NO shows up in your body
  • tell yourself the truth about your YES or NOs
  • practice saying NO to things you aren’t:
    • willing to do
  • capable of doing
  • anticipate this feeling really uncomfortable
  • if you resist saying NO, get curious about what your brain is telling you might be the worst thing another person may:
    • think
  • feel
  • say about you
  • once you’re in the habit of identifying and communicating your NOs to others, pay attention to how you respond when others don’t respect your NOs.
    • do you give in?
  • do you react?
  • do you clarify your NO
    • “If you’d like me to deliver this for you, please have it on my porch by tomorrow morning by 8. If it’s not there when I leave at 8, I’ll assume you decided to handle the delivery yourself.”
  • If they deliver the item after you’ve already left, remind them of your initial boundary:
    • “If you’ll remember, I mentioned that I was leaving to deliver the items I had by 8. Please grab your item and make other plans as I’ve already gone.”
  • I invite you to consider these questions:

    • What might prevent you from protecting your NO?
  • How willing are you to accept that you are intentionally choosing to feel resentment or bitterness rather than discomfort if you don’t protect your NO?

“Overwhelmed means an extreme level of stress, an emotional and/or cognitive intensity to the point of feeling unable to function… overwhelmed is about our narrative of emotional and mental depletion - there’s too much going on to manage effectively.”
