Arizona State Sun Devils football yielded a surprisingly good defense in 2023 thanks to some great additions from the NCAA Transfer Portal and a rock-solid defensive staff led by defensive coordinator Brian Ward. That squad lost several key players including B.J. Green, Dashaun Mallory, Tre Brown, and Ro Torrence, all entrenched starters. There are several key returners at each level of the defense, including Clayton Smith, Pince Dorbah, C.J. Fite, and Shamari Simmons to help soften some of the losses. Kenny Dillingham and the staff were once again aggressive in adding guys through the NCAA Transfer Portal including highly-touted recruits out of high school like Zac Swanson, LT Welch, Cole Martin, and Kamari Wilson, plus more veterans to keep a young, developing group on track. With so many changes and several key returners back in the folds, Arizona State Sun Devils football will again be looking to yield a stout defense and hopefully build off last season's success.
