Is Gascoigne Going To Have a Crack? The Spurs Nostalgia Podcast

In this episode Theo Delaney joins me to discuss his memories of the 89/90 season at White Hart Lane. It was a time of optimism at White Hart Lane (unless you were aware of the financial situation!)

Theo talks through his experiences as a season-ticket holder (well his mates season ticket that was gifted to him!) and we explore:

Big wins over Man U, Liverpool and Arsenal

Finishing top dogs in North London

The brilliance of Gazza and Lineker (and some of the unsung heroes)

Some cultural references!

To launch the first series of Is Gascoigne Gonna Have a Crack?, Gareth sits down with Darren Anderton — one of the defining figures of Tottenham Hotspur’s 1990s story and a key part of England’s Euro 96 run.

Across this wide‑ranging conversation, Darren reflects on the mayhem, mediocrity and magic of his Spurs career, including:

• Terry Venables: why he adored him, how Venables transformed his game, and the shock of his sacking
• The Manchester United transfer saga: how close he came to joining Sir Alex Ferguson, and why he ultimately stayed at Spurs
• The Sheringham–Anderton corner routine: the real origin story behind one of Spurs’ most memorable 90s set‑pieces
• The injury years: the truth behind the “sicknote” nickname, misdiagnoses, Mill Hill training ground, and how England’s medical team kept him fit for Euro 96
• Life under Alan Sugar: dressing‑room visits, contract negotiations, leaked medical information, and the club’s turbulent 90s leadership
• Ossie Ardiles’ Famous Five and the football that was “ahead of its time”
• Christian Gross and the train ticket folklore
• His Portsmouth FA Cup run, the goals that put him on the national radar, and becoming Spurs’ first Premier League‑era signing
• Childhood memories of Hoddle, Waddle, Gascoigne, and the 1991 FA Cup run
• The players, managers and moments that shaped Spurs’ 90s identity

It’s one of the most detailed, honest and nostalgic conversations you’ll hear about Tottenham’s 1990s — from breakthrough to heartbreak to England hero.
