  • Money Moments: Jervis Koo - Travelling Asia, Redundancies and Work Life Integration

Today we're back with another Money Moments episode, where we chat to real Kiwis about money.

We’re back with our friend Jervis, for an update on what’s happening in his financial world, since recording an initial Money Moments ~2 years ago.

When we spoke to Jervis last, he lived and worked in a digital marketing agency in Auckland. We spoke about several things on the podcast, ranging from how he initially got in and out of personal debt to his 30/30/30/10 budgeting approach and how his life pillars drive his happiness (incl. one finance pillar).

Jervis is now a digital nomad who is living in Malaysia. Stopping in NZ for a quick visit, we thought we’d steal an hour of his time to hear an update on how things are doing.

In this episode, we chat about:

    • What it was like working, moving and living in Singapore for work
    • The costs associated with moving overseas and how much he spent
    • How his values have changed over time, learning from work and travel
    • Why he's tweaked a few of his spending and investing habits

    ...and plenty more goodness!

  • 63. Why Your House is For Living In, Not For Growing Wealth

In today's podcast episode, we’ll be chatting about a very spicy topic, which is why your home is for living in and not for growing wealth.

This statement is one that came from a certain Instagram post from the Guardian sharing that ‘Australian housing wealth is meaningless, destructive and fundamentally changing our society:”

Cat jumped on the IG stories, and had a great response to this from her followers, so here we are. Ready to discuss.

    Specifically, we chat about:

    • The data about the Australian housing market and how it's changed over three generations
    • What the possible implications are if you were to solely build your wealth through property
    • Why property wealth is heavily skewed towards families who own properties already
    • The arguments as to why our society should start considering other investments outside of property
