じゃ!ja! [00:06]
Today, we’ll practice useful expressions. Here we go!
Hello, everyone. Oh, I should say, “happy new year”. It’s the first Japanese Swotter in 2023. How are you doing? Today, we’ll practice useful expressions. Here we go!
[00:22]
We’ll begin with “sumimasen”.
“すみませんsumimasen” can be “thank you”, “sorry” and “excuse me”. Nowadays, some people say, “すいませんsuimasen”。
[00:37]
Repeat after me
sumimasen
Say again,
sumimasen
[00:50]
Dialogue
A: Excuse me, you’ve dropped this….
a, sumimasen.
Thank you.
[00:57]
Dialogue
A: Can I help you?
sumimasen.
Thank you.
[01:02]
Now, you reply with “すみません sumimasen”.
[01:08]
Dialogue 1
kore, otoshimashitayo.
sumimasen.
[01:14]
Dialogue 2
tetsudaimashouka?
sumimasen.
[01:25]
Next is “doumo”.
It’s like “thanks” and actually we Japanese use “doumo” a lot every day.
[01:33]
Repeat after me
Say again,
[01:43]
Dialogue
A: After you.
B: どうも。
[01:47]
Dialogue
A: You‘ve dropped something!
B: どうも。
[01:51]
Dialogue
A: Can I help you?
B: どうも。
[01:58]
Now, you reply with “どうも”. OK?
[02:02]
Dialogue 1
You say:
[02:12]
Dialogue 2
You say:
[02:18]
We seldom say “さようならgood bye”. If you’ve asked for directions, then you can simply say “doumoどうもthanks”.
[02:30]
Next, we’ll practice “ja”, “ja, mata” and “dewa mata”.
[02:38]
Repeat after me
[02:44]
Dialogue
A: Oh, is it your first trip to Japan? I hope you enjoy. See you.
You say:
[02:55]
Dialogue
A: Yes, you can take this bus. It stops in front of that temple.
You say:
[03:07]
In case you talked to someone you know, “じゃ、また ja(dewa) mata” is better, as “またmata” means “again”.
[03:17]
Repeat after me
Again
[03:29]
Dialogue
A: It was fun, today. Well, see you again.
[03:38]
Dialogue
Again, you reply with “じゃ、また”.
You say:
[03:54]
Let’s practice basic greetings and phrases.
