John, like a bull in a china shop, immediately can’t help but dive into the newest story at the start of the show. After being sedated and put in a straightjacket, Gordy takes over with the National Day Calendar, and Sam with Today in History. Giving the reins back to John, he walks us through the Idiocracy of the day. Stories range from more on the Hegseth war plan text debacle to the real story about why US astronauts were up in space for the better part of a year.

In hour two, we dive into the Big Story: the news that Pete Hegseth accidentally sent intel about an upcoming military strike, via text, to the editor of the Atlantic (!). We hear from several folks about the fallout and consequences of this utter breach of security. We check in with our WMDX meteorologist Brittney Merlot for a look at the weather (and the snowman she made yesterday!) before hearing one more clip, from Pete Buttigieg, telling his own story of working with military intelligence – and the respect it deserves. Later, we welcome on attorney and host of Amicus: A Law Review Jim Santelle, to discuss the Alien Enemies act court case being heard right now – in response to the Trump administration illegally detaining immigrants during “peacetime.” They also get his take on the Hegseth text message debacle, and wrap up with his explanation and opinion on the potential need for a constitutional amendment, or even a convention.

Guests: Jim SantelleJohn and Gordy begin in usual fashion, with some chatter and the coverage of the National Day Calendar you depend on. We check in with Sam for Today in history, and give a preview of the Big Story to come in hour two: war plans, accidentally sent via text to a journalist. Later, we dive into Idiocracy, listening to a (probably fake, but not wrong) clip of JD Vance criticizing Elon Musk, and talk the Technocracy – Musk’s long term plan for restructuring society around an authoritarian, tech-managed system – with him at the top. Wrapping up the hour, we get the latest news in deregulation: the Trump administration rolling back rules about water quality related to PFAS and herbicides.

In hour two, we get to a promised clip from last hour, from the hearing for an anti-trans bill, where a former proponent of the bill changed his mind, apologizing to the LGBTQ community. Shifting gears to Tesla talk (pun intended) we hear from Ross Gerber, a top investor of the company, now calling for the ousting of Musk as CEO. Brittney Merlot, our WMDX meteorologist, joins us for a check of the weather, and later, we welcome on Laurie Silverberg and Wes Marner of the new grassroots organizing group Western Dane Democracy Project. They chat about the ways everyday folks can get involved in organizing and pro-democracy activities, especially ahead of next week’s election.

Guests: Laurie Silverberg, Wes MarnerJohn and Gordy, live in their new studio, react with chaos to the gigantic desk in their tiny room. They retreat to cyberspace, taking a look at the internet’s National Day Calendar, then chat with Pam Jahnke from the Midwest Farm Report, discussing flatlining milk production across the country. Later, we dive into Idiocracy, talking more pushback Republicans are receiving at town halls, and also protests against Fox News, by veterans. We touch on the story of how Ag Secretary Brooke Rollins is not a fan of farms (lol) and wrap up the first hour with a dystopian idea: the end of price tags, from impulsive, tailored online buying.

Guests: Pam JahnkeHour two begins as Savanna Tomei-Olson, our WMDX News Bureau Chief, joins to talk about the Big Stories of the day, including a city council member being priced out of living in her own district, and some area museums facing federal cuts from the Trump administration. After Savanna’s departure, John dives into a story out of Ohio, where the legislature just passed a bill mandating schools “teach from both sides” on issues such as the holocaust and the civil war. Elsewhere in the firehose of news, we hear from Brittney Merlot that the NWS has suspended their morning weather balloon launches 🙁 . She also enlightens us to the weather in the works this weekend – snow on Sunday! Later, because it’s Friday, we’re joined by Rökker! In for his weekly preview of Max Ink Radio and local music, we take a look at some upcoming concerts in the area. Songs featured this week:
“Beyond the Pale” – Harmonious Wail
“Helena” – Automatic Lover
“Fear is a Vampire” – Lo Marie
“Three Ghosts” – Last Crack
“2 Days” – Road Trip

Guests: RökkerThe guys are live once again at Gordy’s home studio as the one at WMDX is rebuilt. After John expounds his exhaustion, caused by his Kraken (an energetic dog), we dive into the National Day Calendar. Pam Jahnke, the Fabulous Farm Babe from the Midwest Farm Report, joins the show as she does every Monday and Friday to chat about the virtues of chocolate milk, a new study analyzing the “ruralness” of Wisconsin, and how the dairy industry is changing with new, giant cheese plants out of state. Later, we dive into Idiocracy for the day, talking how funding cuts for food banks are hurting the farmers who supply those banks – right here in Wisconsin. We touch on the story of a Massachusetts councilman who wants to ban sales of all products sold by Musk-owned companies, and also talk the effect of covid on schools – and the people who control the schools. Closing out, get out your tinfoil hats! The guys look into a conspiracy theory espoused by Trump, that Fort Knox’s gold has disappeared.

Guests: Pam JahnkeHour two begins with some usual banter as the guys do the show remotely from Gordy’s house today. The pair talk tariffs, and dive into a story from a non-American, Simon Marks, giving his take on the current state of American “democracy,” or the lack thereof. We check in with our WMDX Meteorologist Brittney Merlot for a look at the weather, and also talk with a caller, explaining Canada’s next move in the trade war: blocking US access to Pornhub. Later, Ben Wikler, chair of the Wisconsin Democratic Party, joins the show, chatting with the guys about the final days of the race for Wisconsin Supreme Court between Brad Schimel and Susan Crawford, as well as what you can do to help. Closing out the show for today, Gordy’s neighbor makes a surprise appearance in his house, with gifts for the guys!

Guests: Ben WiklerJohn and Gordy are remote at a secret studio today (Gordy’s house) as the main studio at WMDX is getting rebuilt! They walk through the National Day Calendar, and check in with Sam, on this beautiful day in the neighborhood, for Today in History. In today’s dose of Idiocracy, the guys cover the news of an actress, detained at the boarder for being Canadian (!). They also chat about veterans being fired from their jobs by DOGE, and bring hour one to an end with a story about an Idaho teacher, who was ordered to take down a sign saying “everyone is welcome,” because it had nonwhite hands on it.

In hour two, the guys chat Arlington National Cemetary, who is scrubbing Black and Women’s history from the web and cemetery monuments, and also talk how the administration simply has a BAD view of the future – no view of how to make things better – only to revert, to the structure and culture of the 19th century. We talk with Brittney Merlot, taking a look at the (rainy!) weather to come today, and quickly chat about Republican’s plan to bring their very own DOGE to Wisconsin. Later, we welcome in Mike McCabe for his weekly appearance, discussing his latest Substack article and Vertical Thinking – the idea that we have more in common with each other, and those on the other side of politics, than we do with the 1%.
