Beans bar is Melbournes first dedicated Lesbian, Trans, non-binary and nurodivergent friendly bar, located in the queer hub that is smith street in fitzroy. Owner Beca Pressing joined Rach & Dean on JOY Breakfast to share in all the glory of this new business venture, but also a gross warped corner of tiktok she ended up on in her simple quest to promote this inclusive new space.

Last time Rach & Dean spoke to comedian Ben Sorenson, it was because he had gotten a 6 metre x 3 metre progress pride flag, the biggest inclusive pride flag that exists in Victoria made. And this past weekend, it had its first big outing in Montmorency.

Joining Rach & Dean on JOY Breakfast is Ashley Scott, one of the founders of Rainbow Families in Sydney and who has been active within the Gay Dads group since his eldest daughter was born in 2012, to tell us about ‘Making Rainbow Families’, a seminar happening at the end of this month at the Sydney Mechanics School of Arts.

She is an Embodiment Coach and Psychologist who helps people of all walks of life develop confidence, overcome adversity, and live their best lives. She has a commitment to creating a safe space for everyone that she works with, empowering them to unlock their highest potential. 

Rach & Dean are a bit pet mad here on JOY Breakfast, which is why they we’re excited to get a visit from Marissa Debattista, CEO of Second Chance Animal Rescue, an animal shelter and community hospital in Melbourne’s north that helps change the lives of many animals with aims to rehome them to families that can care for them properly.  

Marisa came onto the show to talk mental health and pets, and things we can do to help strengthen that human/animal bond. 

In its 12th year, Australia’s most authentic paddock-to-plate, food and farming experience Eat Local Month, shines the light on the farmers, growers, producers, artisans, chefs and creators in the scenic rim region in Queensland. To tell us more about this delectable event JOY Breakfast were joined by one of the suppliers from Summer Land Camels, Paul Martin.

Joel King-Mayne joins Rach & Dean on JOY Breakfast for their weekly chat around the water cooler. It’s the most pride filled gossip we’ve ever had.

Gippsland Pride Initiative provide visibility, engagement and awareness for LGBTIQA+ people in Gippsland, and they had an amazing day on the weekend celebrating pride with a Roller Derby Pride Cup and a Gala in the evening. Gippsland is a huge space, larger than Melbourne, so for some people they were bussing in for 2 hours before actually getting to the Gala to celebrate – it is pretty special. This is the third year with over 450 people attending and is a night of celebration hosted by Frock Hudson & Freddie Merkin, with entertainment by The Queen Experience & Joanne. They even organised a livestream of the event for the young people and ticket holders in Wangaratta who had their youth pride ball postponed on the weekend so they could still be a part of community and celebrate from their own private pride parties at home. 

Stellar Perry is an incredible superstar who started writing her own songs at the age of y 8 years, then in 2020 she graced our screens and stole our hearts (AND made Rach cry) with her audition for the Voice singing Lady Gaga’s Remember us this way. Stella released her absolute banger of a track My Baby Burns off the back of the voice and is now hitting the stage with The Rocky Horror Picture show and Rach & Dean live in the JOY Breakfast studios.
