16. Study or Flunk

第16课 读书或被当（不及格）
Kim bumps into her classmate, Pak. (K=Kim; P=Pak)
小琴偶然遇见她的同学帕克。
What's the matter, Pak? You look depressed.
帕克, 怎么回事？你看起来很沮丧。
Did someone just die or what?
是不是有人刚死了还是什么？
Well, someone is going to soon.
呃, 有人就快死了。
Oh, my God! Really? Who is it?

Me. I flunked the exam and my dad's going to kill me.
是我。这次考试我考砸了, 我老爸会宰了我。
How come you flunked?
你怎么会考砸呢？
I thought you did everything the fortuneteller told you to do.
我以为你都照算命先生叫你做的去做了。
I thought so, too.
我也是这么想。
I was sure of passing.
我有把握会通过考试的。
That's why I went to see him this morning.
这就是为什么我今天早上去找他的原因。
Well, what did he say?
那他说什么呢？
He said I flunked because I did everything very well except that I forgot one thing.
他说我考砸了是因为我每件事都做得很好, 只忘记一件事。
What's that?
什么事？
I didn't study!
我没念书。

I lost control today. everything I've kept buried inside came rushing to the surface. I'm simply not able to resist her.

You're awake. why didn't star labs call us? I just woke up. Should you even be on your feet? Iris I am OK. I watched you die, Barry. you kept dying. Your heart kept stopping. It's still beating.

15. Don't Rely on Luck!

第15课 勿心存侥幸
Passing exams is every student's dream.
考试及格是每个学生的梦想;
Failing them is their nightmare.
考不及格则是他们的梦魇。
So, to realize their dreams, many students try anything.
因此，许多学生为了实现他们的梦想，会去偿试各种方法。
They even go to fortune tellers, buy lucky charms and follow old customs.
他们甚至会去找算命先生、买幸运符并遵循古老的风俗。
In Korea, many students bury something personal in the university they want to enter.
在韩国，有很多学生会把自己的一些私人物品埋在想要就读的那所大学的地下。
They believe that these things will act as magnets and "pull" them into the university.
他们相信这些东西会像磁铁一样，把他们“吸”进那所大学。
Whether it works or not, nobody really knows.
它是不是真的有效，没有人真正知道。
At least it does ease the students' minds about passing exams.
至少可以使学生想到通过考试时，心情能够舒缓下来。
Remember, though, you can't always rely on luck.
不过要记住，你不能永远靠运气过日子。
There is no substitute for hard work.
努力可是无法取代的。

17. Celebrity Idol 名人偶像

Elliot was a huge fan of the Cooker. The Cooker was a rapper who was known for his deep voice and super fast rapping. The Cooker's real name was Theodore Cook. Elliot had tickets to his sold-out concert in San Francisco. It was the first time he would see him in person. He also had backstage tickets so he could talk to him.

Elliot drove to San Francisco with some friends to see the Cooker. They had pretty good seats. They could see his sweat! The Cooker was great live. His voice sounded the same as it did on the radio. Some singers can't sing live. The Cooker wasn't one of them. Elliot waved his hands up in the air. He closed his eyes and listened to the music.

After the concert, Elliot and his friends went backstage. Elliot was so excited that he screamed when he saw the Cooker. The Cooker closed his ears. Elliot ran up to him. "I am your biggest fan! Can I have an autograph and a picture?" Elliot asked. The Cooker rolled his eyes. "Sure, I guess." Elliot noticed that the Cooker was annoyed. "You know what, forget it. I don't want a jerk's autograph," Elliot said. He realized that some celebrities were just mean.
