The government's planned judiciary overhaul has raised concerns that its removal of  checks and balances on political power will lead to public sector corruption and long-term economic damage. A multi-country analysis by Prof. Itai Ater and Dr. Tzachi Raz of the Israel Democracy Institute connects these dots, showing how the removal of checks and balances can lead to an increase in the  level of corruption, and damage to the economy. Prof. Ater, a professor of economics at Tel Aviv University and a Senior Fellow at the Israel Democracy Institute, spoke to KAN's Naomi Segal about the study.
