  • Building & Destroying

    Send a text

In this episode, we examine the concept of Building and Destroying things like in the Karate Kid and Cobra Kai Shows where the Dojo is being built, destroyed, or re-built again.  First, we use the work of construction to learn how to build things like walls, re-building floors, etc to illustrate the hard work needed to create something.  Sometimes you need to destroy something in order to build it back up again.  In our physical training, we focus on fighting on a fighting platform (or similar) to develop good reactions and responses in our defense.  Then using the "roughing it in, then fine tuning" concept in our patterns or katas to develop your martial art skills.

  • Repetition

    Send a text

In this episode, we look at the repetition in the work tasks that Mr. Miyagi did with Daniel in the Karate Kid Movie and how this develops muscle memory.  Focusing on the repetitive work tasks we can manage our time to get things done effectively and efficiently.  Our martial art training is very similar using pattern sets, speed drill sets, basic sets, and strengthening sequences, we can get better at our martial art skills.   These skills are easily translated into better movements, increased memory, better health, and quicker reactions in self defense.   This is a great topic for Groundhog Day!

  • Hibernation Sickness

In this episode, we examine how people make excuses, when in cold environments like Michigan, to not getting any work done.  We value hard work and getting things done even in these extreme temperatures (even extreme heat too).  This is also important in our martial art training and active lifestyle, so that we can continue to make gains in our progress and maintain our conditioning.  By applying these pointers, we can avoid hibernation sickness for many months, get out, and have fun!

In this episode, we examine Tensile Strength and how it helps in Martial Art Training.  We look at the manual labor type of work that builds and develops Tensile Strength similar to the training in the movie, the Karate Kid as well as Cobra Kai Netflix Series.  After that, we can use this Tensile Strength to our advantage in our Martial Art Training both with the Physical Training and combine it with our Mental Training by using "Peace of Mind" in our Flexibility Training.  We do this to not get too tense and causing injuries so we can be more like "Flexible Steel."
