Every adults ran under the carrousel umbrella

H sat on the bench soaking wet, regurgitating his next move

H's last memory was he was happy to see P went round and round in that carrousel

I did reach home that day

H got so sick mom had to send him to the hospital

Family discussed what school H had to go next fall

H didn't feel like to talk about it now

Doctors kept asking H if he would really apply the school his pop designated

H thought it's stupid to ask any futuristic questions in advance

"How do you know what you're going to do until you do it?"

D.B. drove to see H with his English babe

He was writing on the next Hollywood movie

He asked H's opinion

H didn't give a damn

H started missing all the characters in his novel

"Don't tell anybody anything"

Carrousel was open

P finally talked

Sje thought carrousel was closed in wintertime

H said maybe it's because it was Christmas

H bought her a ticket to ride the carrousel

H gave her the ticket and remembered to return her spending money

P didn't want to take her money

She asked H to take care of it for her "please"

This did the magic for H

H gave her some more money to buy ride ticket

P took it saying she was not mad at H any more

It started to rain

P took the red hunting hat out of H's coat pocket

P put it on H's head

H asked if she didn't want it any more

P said she was only letting H wear for the rain

P went up to search for her own carrousel seat

While she was searching for her seat, she yelled if H would not go to the West any more

H answered yes

He was not going

Fir he actually returned home later

H proposed to take P to the zoo

P followed but she kept on the other side of the same street

They went to the sea lions

P made out that she was watching people feeding sea lions

Then the Bear section

One boy kept asking his father loudly "Daddy make him come out!"

P wouldn't laugh

They took the tunnel which smelled terribly of urine and went to the carrousel section

P asked H do not touch her

H asked what P brought in that suitcase

P said only her dresses, underwear, socks, moccasins etc

She's going with H

H was horrified

H yelled that she was NOT going

P cried

H checked his volume and toned down and asked P not to go

P stopped crying already

P wouldn't look H in the face now

H gave her pressure about the Friday Benedict Arnold play

P ignored him

H said he'd go with P back to school

After 3 when school was finished, she could come to museum to claim her suitcase and such

P said she was not going back to school

She didn't care H went West or not any more

She dusted H's hand from her shoulder

H was left alone in Mummy Room

When H got out, he found another Fuck You in red crayon on the door under the stones

H was devastated

H started picturing his own tombstone, inscribed with his name, birth and death dates, with a Fuck You underneath it

H felt he had diarrhea

But he passed out at the lavatory door

H revived and was happy he's feeling a little bit better

H thought he would only coming back NY only when relatives are dying

Maybe he'll be 35 then

Maybe he'll let D.B. come to stay at his cabin

But he couldn't write his Hollywood plays there

H found out it's 12:25 already

H feared that the ladies didn't give Phoebe the note

Finally behind the front Museum door, H saw P coming across Fifth Avenue

She was dragging very big suitcase

H found out it was his Whooton suitcase

In the museum, two boys came out from inside it

They wanted to know where the mummies were

H had time enough to horse a little bit around

H told the speaking boy that his pants were open

The boy buttoned them up without even bothering to get behind a post

The one did all the talking mistook "tomb" for "toon"

H took sometime locating the Mummy Room

One had to go down a narrow hall with stones on both sides which were transported there with all the excavation of the Pharaoh

The place felt spooky he one who didn't talk held on to H's sleeve then the boy beat it

"a yella streak a mile wide": yellow streak a mile wide

Talkative one explained that his brother had the coward mark as long as one mile

He beat it too

H went to Phoebe's school to get his note to P

Someone wrote Fuck You on the wall

H was aggravated

H thought of what Phoebe and other kids would think

H thought of some uneducated dirty kids coming up to try to explicitly explain the verb Fuck to other innocent kids

This thought annoyed H

H imagined to catch the pervert who sneaked into campus to write this and smashed him on the stone staircase

He admitted that he daren't

He resolved to wipe it out fearless of getting caught by passersby

Then he reached Principsl's office

Principal was out

His secretary who was very old sat at her typewriter

H explained his purpose

Old lady made a lady next door to pass the note to Phoebe

Old lady politely started conversation asking where he went to school now

Pencey impressed the old lady

H didn't intend to argue with old lady

H left office and went down this other staircase

He found another Fuck You on the wall

H realized the impracticality of trying to wipe out all graffiti off the city

H found he had 55 minutes before meeting Phoebe

He wound to the Museum nearby

H acted like he was neurotic

Every time he walked over one block, he was afraid he wouldn't make it to the other side of street

Then H started praying to Allie to help him passing the street without disappearing to the underground

H went straight from Fifth Avenue to the sixtieth streets

H hoped to go see Phoebe once more to return her spending money

Then his mind changed immediately that he would start hitchhiking to the west right there right then

H would went to Holland Tunnel and started bumming rides

H imagined after landing in the West somewhere he would start a gas-filling job at gas stations

To avoid unnecessary contacts with unnecessary people he would play deaf-mute till people lost interest to converse to him

He would spend his salary building his own cabin outside the forest

Because he needed his cabin to full of sunshine sometimes

if the Miss Right who was also a deaf-mute appeared, H would marry her

If they had children he would hide them in the cabin

They would teach them to read and write
