  • The Only Known Serial Killer of Hawaii | Eugene Barrett

Eugene Barrett, a serial killer from Hawaii, murdered three women over a span of 40 years. He had a history of excessive drinking and was dishonorably discharged from the army. Barrett's first murder occurred in 1959 when he shot his ex-girlfriend. He was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment but was later paroled. Barrett went on to commit two more murders, one in 1972 and another in 1995. The criminal justice system failed these women, and Barrett should never have been released after his first murder.

  • Unsolved | The Honolulu Strangler
The Honolulu Strangler, also known as The Honolulu Rapist, is the nickname given to an unidentified serial killer who is credited with killing five women in Hawaii from 1985 and 1986. Only the second serial killer in Hawaiian history (excluding the US *badum tsh*)
The Honolulu Strangler is the second known serial killer in Hawaii, responsible for the rape and murder of five women in 1985 and 1986. The cases remain unsolved, but Howard Gay was the primary suspect. The police couldn't find enough evidence to charge him, but he failed a polygraph test. The murders stopped after he was investigated. Polygraphs are no longer admissible in court. The cases highlight the challenges of solving crimes without modern forensic technology. There is also a discussion about the limitations of unsolved cases and the existence of multiple serial killers in Hawaii.

  • The Oregon Shoe Gremlin | Jerry Brudos
Jerry Brudos killed at least four women between 1968 to 1969, and was probably the most looney of the sick puppies we cover. So much so that the accidentally secondhand buzzed AJ may or may not have had a bit of a tweak out over the absurdism over this big fan of My Left Foot.
Jerry Brudos, a serial killer from Oregon, killed at least four women in 1968 and 1969. He had a shoe and foot fetish from a young age and would steal women's underwear. Brutas had a history of stalking and assaulting women, and he was eventually diagnosed with schizophrenia. He married a young girl and engaged in disturbing behaviors, such as taking pictures of her doing housework naked except for heels. He killed four young women, kept their bodies in his garage, and engaged in necrophilia. Brutas was arrested, confessed to the murders, and was sentenced to life imprisonment.

  • Kid-Killing Demon Summoning French Baron | Gilles de Rais (Oldest Known Serial Killer?)
In the 1400s, France saw massive upheavals in socio-political conquests, and the right hand of Joan of Arc was Gilles de Rais, the man who kidnapped and sacrificed kids to try and summon demons according to the last 500 years of potential propaganda. Sounds like a fun guy.
Gilles de Reys, a knight and lord from Brittany, was convicted as a confessed serial killer of children in the 1400s. He was involved in the occult and attempted to summon a demon multiple times. He confessed to killing between 100 to 200 children and was executed in 1440. There have been questions of his guilt and conspiracy theories surrounding his case. The history of the case is written by those who gained from it, and it is difficult to determine the exact truth after 500 years. The podcast acknowledges the limitations of a 15-minute episode in exploring such a complex case.

  • Behind The Scenes | Why We Do This Weirdness
Killing 15 Minutes is a True Crime podcast that takes a unique and conversational approach to discussing serial killers and crimes. The hosts, AJ Carey and Sam Rossi, started the podcast with the idea of providing quick and concise information about true crimes. They read poorly written synopses and add their own humor and commentary to the discussions. The podcast aims to break the mold of traditional True Crime podcasts by offering a more lighthearted and conversational tone. While some may enjoy this approach, it may not be for everyone.
