An Elko man who reportedly stole a woman’s purse last Wednesday, was caught shortly after spending a counterfeit bill. 21 year old Christian Collazo reportedly went into a casino and stole a woman’s purse that was near her while she gambled. After looking at the surveillance video, police recognized Collazo, and went to his residence to question him. When they arrived, they recovered the woman's missing purse, and everything inside the purse was there too. Police got a tip that Collazo had gone into another casino prior to the theft, convincing a bartender to break a bill that was later discovered counterfeit. Elko Police say they've had several calls recently about counterfeit $20's and $50's being passed around town, usually at casinos. An investigation is ongoing.

Richard West the 2nd, has made a plea deal, that will drop most of the charges against him, in connection with an illegal prescription drug distribution ring. West is pleading guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance, and 12 other charges will be dropped. West could face up to 20 years at sentencing, he's been in jail since last April. Eight others are charged in the case.

The Reno doctor accused of participating in a scheme to illegally distribute pain killing drugs, is now facing complaints from the Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners. Dr. Robert Rand remains in jail, ad now faces 74 violations of Nevada's Medical Practice Act, including malpractice and unprofessional conduct.

Reno Police are investigating an alleged shoplifting incident that led to two injuries at a southeast Reno grocery store this morning. About 7:00 this morning police were called to the Scolaris at the corner of Mccarran and Mira Loma. That led to a scuffle during which two people were injured. They were taken to a hospital. No officers were hurt. One report says the two alleged shoplifters fought each other, but details remain sketchy.

With more stormy weather on the way, the City of Sparks and the National Weather Service are reminding residents and businesses to keep their flood preparations in place, including sandbags, for the foreseeable future. Sparks’ city manager Steve Driscoll says we are not out of the woods yet, and still have several weeks to go before we are no longer in our normal flood season. The city advises reducing the risks by keeping street gutters and storm drains free of debris, ice, and snow, so storm water can flow into drainage systems.

The Reno Police Department has added manpower in the crackdown on impaired driving, and that has led to hundreds of arrests.

After six crashes and eight fatalities last August, five of which involved DUI drivers, the Reno police department shifted resources to crack down on impaired drivers.
