State Route 89 from Squaw Valley Road to Alpine Meadows Road is closed after an officer-involved shooting. The Placer County Sheriff's Office says officers shot and killed a suspect just before 4am this morning on SR-89 near Squaw Valley Road. The shooting followed a chase out of Tahoe City, where at one point officers laid down spike strips. The California Highway Patrol has not released what exactly led to the shooting. Officials say SR-89 will remain closed for an extended period of time. Drivers trying to get from to Tahoe from Truckee are advised to use State Route 267.

The Reno Police Department has added manpower in the crackdown on impaired driving, and that has led to hundreds of arrests.
