The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in identifying persons of interest in a violent home invasionthat happened October 30th. An elderly man who lives alone on Kimmerling Road in the Gardnerville Ranchos area, reported being awakened by unknown subjects forcing their way into his home at around 12:38 am. Four masked attackers entered the home, held him down and demanded to know where he kept his valuables. The man was beaten unconscious. The suspects got away with property, valued at about $2,000. Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Investigators were able recover DNA evidence that is currently being processed, and identification on the suspects is pending. Anyone with information regarding this case is urged to call Douglas County Sheriffs Office at (775) 782-5126.

Nevada is one of 18 states getting federal grants to develop early learning programs for preschool-age children from low- to moderate-income families. Education Secretary of John B. King Jr. announced that Nevada has been allocated almost $12.85 million of the $247 million being awarded under the Preschool Development Grant program.

The University of Nevada, Reno could pay close to $1 million to release football coach Brian Polian from his contract one year early. Nevada and Polian agreed to part ways Sunday. Polian, the son was paid a base salary of $525,000 and had one year left on his original five-year contract. The university will owe Polian nearly $569,000 if he doesn't get another job before his contract expires in January 2018.That total could be in addition to the $389,000 that Polian's assistant coaches are owed through the end of their contracts, which end in February and March.
