They say they're not being greedy, but you decide: do you think the former Proud Boys leader who was sentenced to 22 years for "seditious conspiracy" relating to the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol deserves 2 to 5 million dollars from the new "anti-weaponization fund"? Greg and Holly both question the legitimacy of these claims, especially from people convicted of injuring police officers during the storming on the U.S. Capitol five years ago.
As the parent of both young kids and young adult kids, Holly's worried about their mental health. With the onslaught of technology, social media, and artificial intelligence, it's become increasingly difficult for young people to maintain their mental health. With May being Mental Health Awareness Month, Inside Sources takes a few minutes to discuss ways to improve young people's mental health with Dr. Deepak Rajpoot, Psychiatrist & Chief Medical Officer, Community & State, UnitedHealthcare of Nevada.
Whether you're staying local or heading out somewhere exotic (looking at you, Midwest), the roads and skies are expected to be busy for the long Memorial Day weekend. Near Utah's "Mighty 5" parks, folks are expecting to see some major crowds. We hear from UDOT about the biggest trouble spots to watch out for on Utah's roads, and Anna Loughridge with the Utah Office of Tourism joins to talk about congestion in and around Moab and its national parks.
More than half of Americans don't know how to swim. They either can't swim outright, or they can't do basic things like treading water for a minute, swimming 25 yards, or getting out of a pool without a ladder. As more people head to the water during the summer months, we're spending some time talking about the importance of water safety. Ashley Spence, swim lesson instructor at Clearfield Aquatic and Fitness Center, joins Greg and Holly to talk about swim lessons for both kids AND adults.
It's an unfortunate reality: racism exists... even in religious communities. Ronell Hugh, President of Genesis Group (an organization for Black members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints), recently shared his experiences dealing with racism. He joins the program and says these kinds of things have to be addressed, otherwise things will never change.
The most recent point-in-time count of Utah's homeless community shows that homelessness is down. But are those numbers showing the full picture of the state of homelessness in the state? Today, leaders on homeless policy from around the country will be here in Utah to talk about homelessness, public safety, drug use, and so much more. Solutions Utah board member Dave Durocher joins Inside Sources to share insights on the state of homelessness right now, and on what's being done to provide real solutions.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is working to help end child and mother hunger around the world. Thanks to a $25-million donation -- which will also be matched one-for-one -- the Church expects to help up to 320 million women and children every year in countries like Kenya, Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Sierra Leone, and the Philippines. Church News reporter Aimee Cobabe discusses the donation and its potential impact.
Who do you think is more against the data center in Box Elder County: rural, suburban, or urban voters? It's not even close. New polling just out this morning from the Deseret News and Hinckley Institute of Politics shows that 61% of suburban and 53% of rural voters oppose the plans. On the flip side, more urban voters actually support the project: 52% for versus 42% against. Deseret News politics reporter Brigham Tomco joins Inside Sources to explain.
The drought continues to worsen across the state, and we still have several months of hotter, drier weather to go. In other words, it's not looking great. Today, Governor Spencer Cox declared a statewide state of emergency over the drought. In his executive order, the governor says the drought comes on the heels of the worst snowpack on record. We hear from the governor and other state leaders during a LIVE news conference. Holly and Greg then share thoughts on a question that was asked of the governor about water and data centers.
