As we get closer to Election Day, Inside Sources is interviewing candidates running in Utah's biggest races. In this edition of Meet the Candidates 2026, hosts Holly Richardson and Greg Skordas speak with Republican and Democratic candidates for Utah's 1st Congressional District, Ben McAdams and Riley Owen. They answer questions about their campaign, their policies and priorities, and why they think they're the best fit for the role.
Ballots are now on their way to voters across the state. With three weeks to go until Election Day, there's a lot to keep track of. Salt Lake County Clerk Lannie Chapman joins Inside Sources to discuss the ballots being mailed out today, deadlines voters need to know, and what her office is doing to ensure the election stays secure and accurate.
The humanization of AI continues! The tech company Anthropic now says it'll ban users who are "abusive or cruel" to its chatbot, Claude. Is it possible to be abusive or cruel to an inanimate object? Serious question -- is it even a thing?
This story is just awful -- so tragic and so traumatizing! A man riding a roller coaster in Georgia died after being thrown from the coaster. It took place at Six Flags Over Georgia on the Goliath coaster. That ride is 200 feet high and the cars can hit 70 miles per hour. Now, several roller coasters across the U.S. and Canada are closed as investigators try to figure out what went wrong.
The push to see public records relating to the former Department of Government Efficiency -- or DOGE -- continues today. This morning, the U.S. Supreme Court agreed to hear arguments dealing with a watchdog's lawsuit seeking public records about DOGE. What's interesting about this whole thing is that the court is intervening for a second time. Last year, the court overturned a district court's order requiring the government to produce DOGE-related records. Now, it's coming back before the high court.
Utah's quality of life is strong, but it's showing signs of trouble. Economic issues are bringing down our quality of life -- things like housing affordability, the cost of living, and the decreasing opportunities for good jobs. According to the new index from the Utah Foundation, Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute, and the Utah Chamber, it's now at the lowest level since the groups started keeping track in 2011.
New homes lack many of the features found in old-school houses, like laundry chutes, milk doors, and dumbwaiters. But a new kind of door is becoming more popular in new houses and is a commonly requested feature in home renovations: the Costco door. This little half-door goes from the garage into the kitchen, pantry, or mud room and is supposed to make it easier to unload the SUV full of bulk goodies from Costco. Do you have a door like this? Would you want one?
Over the weekend, the Trump administration cut down more than 400 trees at an historic golf course in Washington, D.C. This morning, the superintendent of the National Mall and Memorial Parks -- a unit of the National Park Service -- had to testify before a federal judge about the removal. According to local reporting, the judge was furious about the destruction. Holly and Jim talk about this kind of pattern that seems to exist with the current administration.
You know what hasn't been talked about a lot recently? The gondola coming to Little Cottonwood Canyon. And the flooding and mud flows up the Cottonwoods this weekend got us thinking more about this project and where things stand. A new opinion piece in the Deseret News actually lays out the project as one of two choices: build the gondola or save the Great Salt Lake. Before we talk about that... let's talk a bit about where the project stands right now.
