It’s the last week of April, and for many locals that means an impending rent or mortgage payment. Making housing payments is difficult enough in a tourist town where the cost of living has been steadily and rapidly increasing over the past five years. But throw in a health pandemic – at the exact moment when people were gearing up to work for the season – and making rent seems next to impossible. Today on the news, we learn about the new COVID-19 Housing Relief Fund that will provide emergency housing assistance to people in the Moab area currently experiencing financial hardship. And later in the news, our partners report on the reopening of wastewater facility on the Utah-Colorado border linked to earthquakes as well as a final BLM plan for a vast swath of public lands in Western Colorado.

  • News Extra – Health Department Amends Order, Makes Exceptions for Grand County
The Southeast Utah Health Department has amended their public health order once again. They have lifted restrictions on overnight lodging and camping in Carbon and Emery Counties but not in Grand. Explaining these exceptions, health department officials said they are working on a more specific plan for Grand County due to its “unique status as a gateway community and popular destination.” Plus, another local positive COVID-19 case is confirmed.
