There are many stories about individuals coming together during this global health crisis to make sure their neighbors and community members stay protected. This narrative is especially real in the rural West and throughout tribal communities, where getting access to basic essentials is more challenging. KZMU host Christy Williams Dunton recently spoke with Ute Mountain Ute tribal member Regina Lopez Whiteskunk about local adaptability in the face of a global pandemic. And later, we talk with the Moab Sun News about their recent profile of Bluff Area Mutual Aid.

If you’ve been around Grand County's schools, you’ll know the district’s motto is ‘Each Student, Every Day.’ During this pandemic, it might as well be ‘ALL Kids, Every Day.’ That’s because Grand County School District is now feeding children age 0 to 18 a free breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday. It takes a lot of hard work and spirit to make this happen for our local kids. Today on the news, we hear from school district employees and volunteers providing food, comfort, and a bit of stability for youth during an uncertain time.

  • Southeast Utah Health Department on Get An Earful
Today on the extended newscast, we speak with Bradon Bradford and Orion Rogers of the Southeast Utah Health Department. It's now been one month since they first shuttered overnight lodging to nonessential visitors. Although that lodging order remains in place, they are now asking businesses who cater mainly to locals to submit a COVID-19 mitigation plan. The health department wants to know what measures these businesses would implement to keep staff and customers safe if they reopened during this health pandemic. We speak with Bradford and Rogers about this ask, which gives some insight into what ‘phasing in’ our economy might look like in the future.
