On this episode of “Hangout in the Holy Land,” Josh and Chuck do their best to react to a confusing, disappointing, and frankly embarrassing Cotton Bowl loss for Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes.

With Michigan, National Signing Day, and even the loss of their starting QB at least temporarily in the rearview, Day and his OSU football squad had an opportunity to turn the page and roll into 2024 with some momentum. Instead, the head coach looked overwhelmed and underprepared, leaving Buckeye Nation with more questions than answers.

Questions such as: What the hell happened in Arlington, TX? Where does the football program go from here? And should Day be the one leading it?

The Ohio State women's basketball team started the first of 17 Big Ten conference games up north against the Michigan Wolverines. In a game where each team had respective runs, the Buckeyes didn't have enough to overcome a strong home environment and the maize and blue. After the 69-60 defeat, head coach Kevin McGuff and guards Rikki Harris and Celeste Taylor spoke with Land-Grant Holy Land, who was live in Ann Arbor.

Coach McGuff discussed what did the Buckeyes in that day: Rebounding, turnovers and poor shooting from deep. Plus, his thoughts on the recent form of sophomore Cotie McMahon, who's in a scoring slump over the last four games.

Harris and Taylor talk about the crowd noise of 8,000 in attendance, and that it didn't impact their play in the defeat. Harris talks specifically about what the team needs to work on next and her own increased presence for the team of late, sharing her nickname of "bench starter." Taylor talks playing against Michigan for the first time in her career, and the first time in the storied rivalry between the two teams.

Following Ohio State’s 78-75 win over the West Virginia Mountaineers in the Legends of Basketball Classic at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, Ohio. The Buckeyes moved to 11-2 and now will enter 2024 with 18 conference games left on the slate.

First, Roddy Gayle and Jamison Battle talked to the media. Gayle finished with a career-high 32 points, six rebounds, and five assists, while Battle recorded 17 points and nine rebounds. After Gayle and Battle talked to the media, head coach Chris Holtmann came out and discussed the game and the Buckeyes' adjustments from the first to the second half in shooting and defense.

Following Ohio State’s 78-36 win over the New Orleans Privateers on Thursday night, Zed Key, Devin Royal, and acting head coach Jake Diebler spoke with a small group of media members about the game and the circumstances surrounding tonight’s sudden coaching substitution.

Royal and Key spoke first, and the biggest topic was how the game was different for the two guys with Diebler calling the shots instead of Holtmann. Key said that “it wasn’t different at all” because Diebler is the offensive coordinator, and he called plays tonight as well. Royal said he is feeling more comfortable with the college game as he goes on, but that he knew New Orleans was not a good defensive rebounding team, so he would have opportunities on the glass.

Diebler talked about how working for Holtmann has helped prepare him for moments like this, and how their preparation as a staff made things easier for him. He said substitutions were challenging, and that “there’s a lot more that goes into it than you’d think.”

All eyes in NCAA women's basketball were fixated on Columbus, Ohio Monday night as the No. 13 Ohio State women's basketball team hosted the No. 2 UCLA Bruins. The Buckeyes started strong but had two difficult quarters before trimming a 22-point lead down to six, ultimately falling to the future Big Ten side 77-71.

After the game, head coach Kevin McGuff, guard Jacy Sheldon and guard/forward Taylor Thierry spoke with the media.

Coach McGuff discussed the issues that caused the Buckeyes to fall to UCLA. Including problems with driving into the paint, a quiet night for sophomore Cotie McMahon and the last quarter surge. Also, how Monday night’s game is indicative to the future of the Big Ten, calling it the best conference in the country.

Sheldon and Thierry discuss where the Buckeyes have to improve to get better as a team, and Sheldon talks about her 30-point performance.
