1968 Spy and Espionage Mystery

When I think of Ellery Queen, it is always with the young detective and his police inspector father; this novel is far from that. This reading is more of the classic 1960's espionage novels, and I kept reflecting on the 2015 movie Bridge of Spies.

Having said all that, if you enjoy classic espionage mysteries, this is one for you.

Ever picked up a book without knowing a thing about it? You just got this itch, probably somewhere deep inside the most primitive area of your brainstem, and it not only drew you to the book, but kept you super-glued to it all the way to page 348. And, like Super Glue(R), it wouldn't let you go. . . .

ONE BAD THING by master storyteller Bill Eidson is that very book. And Bill's Super Glue is his unique ability to write just enough of a good thing, without detracting from his brilliantly told story.

Simple and elegant.

It was a Friday night a week or so ago, and I was sitting at the computer, breezing through Amazon.com's Mystery section. As I scrolled down, something caught my eye; I never even paid attention to it, because it was undefined. All I know is that ONE BAD THING arrived two days later, and I recall ripping off the packaging, clutching it under my arm, and running for the bedroom. If you're not in great cardiovascular shape, then I advise renting a "crash cart" with a defibrillator that's had a recent servicing. A tank of 100% oxygen might be in order, too. I'm in super shape, with a resting heart rate of 50 beats/min.

multi-layered and thought provoking

The Insurrectionist is a book with many layers which made it impossible for me to put down. On the first level it is a story about a terribly violent act. This story is then stacked on top of several subplots of the life and background of The Insurrectionist that led him to commit such violence. Intertwined through these layers are many critical historical and political questions of the last century. But I realized by the end of the book that the theme is to tell what the author believes is the true extent of love, both romantic and family love. I highly recommend this complex and compelling book.

Best book I've read in a long time!!

Intriguing look into a culture many American's may not be familiar with. The topics are very current with what is going on in today's world. There are so many twists and turns you won't be able to put the book down. I'm looking forward to seeing more from this author!

3rd Book Really Ties Up the Story

I thoroughly enjoyed the prior two books in this series and I was not disappointed in the way author Justin Sirois decided to wrap up the story. It's such a wild ride, with so many interesting characters, that the reader can imagine all sorts of ways the tale could have ended. Personally, I didn't want to see it end at all, as the kidnApp premise is such a cutting edge idea, and the author shows he can play it out to the extremes and rein it back in as he chooses. He's the ulitmate Taker of our imaginations, and in my opinion he should extend this series, or at least get the screenplay done so we can all enjoy it in the theater. My vote for the actor to play Haymaker would be Gary Busey.

Great!!

The author wasn't kidding when he said on a Facebook post that book three was cranked up to 11. What a ride! Disappointed this is to be the last in the series, but looking forward to the possibility of a television story based on these books. The only thing missing from this book was the lack of Barnstormer. He's in there, but he's my favorite so that's just my opinion.

I would absolutely love to see a series based on Barnstormer! That would be amazing.

Buy the Series, Well Worth Reading

This series was excellent and well worth the read. I may be somewhat partial as I'm from Baltimore and I could literally picture myself in many of the locations Sirois wrote about. Although the books are fiction there are enough clues to know where many of the places are that he describes in his books. I really grew to like the characters that Sirois created and I sort of wish the series could have continued.

Two thumbs up to Sirois, keep up the good work. I'm looking forward to reading your next book.

Did NOT disappoint! I could Hardly stand Waiting for this to come out ~ once it did, I even cheated at work, reading online because I just had to know what happened next! Love Love Love this series ~ Justin Sirois is an amazing and creative writer. Hated that this is the end ... had chills and a tear in the eye at the end ... silly me. I definitely spread the word about this series, any chance I get. ~smiling~

Doesn't disappoint.

Loved book 3 as much as the others. book 3 picks up right were 2 left off with Haymaker become more and more outrageous and out of control. it includes some background on how Haymaker became obsessed and explores his underlying instability which helps to understand where he is trying to go. While anyone that read book 1 and 2 knows the purpose of being a Waiter, the author doesn't get caught up in the details and instead choses to focus on the company and interaction between the characters.

Bought this whilst it was on offer but really liked it! Will definitely be listening to the others in the series.

Two would have been better

What did you like best about Ten Little Herrings? What did you like least?

The reader and the thing I also liked least was the reader. There should have been two, one female and one male. The reading was excellent but as there were large parts that were a male narrative it would have been easier on the casual ear to have had a man to read those parts.
