    Great read
As usual Shane Maloney did not disappoint. I love Murray Whelan, never more than when is roaming the neighbour hood of my childhood. My heart just flutters with joy and laughter as the times this book is set in come rolling back. I am waiting for no. 7.
    A rollicking ride
A great read funny dramatic and you didn't know what would happen next. Set in Melbourne so great if you are a local.
    Brilliant writing
Yet another in the Murray Whelan series where the Labor politician is the consummate 'go to' man to sort out the problems of the party and also get involved in solving crimes. Great, witty writing which made me guffaw a fair bit. The romantic interest keeps the pages turning.
Another Australian masterpiece from Shane Maloney.
The master of Australian idiom and dialogue. His characters are fully fleshed out with all the flaws which even our heroes possess.

An extremely wealthy woman is dying and wants to find her granddaughter, who disappeared at three years old. Belinda agrees to pretend to be Kathy, the granddaughter, but while exploring the mansion she has flashbacks and wonders if she really is Kathy.
After she marries Adam, his actions sometimes indicate that it was only for the inheritance. Kathy suspects that her grandmother is being poisoned. She doesn't know who to trust in the household: her grandmother's doctor, the nurse, the chef, the memoirist, even her husband. When her grandmother makes Kathy the sole beneficiary of her will, the lawyer includes a stipulation to protect Kathy from any fortune hunters. She now believes she is safe. But is she?

    Greed at its greediest
Belinda was raised in a small town by religiously fundamentalist family. Beyond fundamental, this family took religion too far and used it to oppress and beat this young woman down. When she is raped by her 'pastor', no one believes her story, choosing to believe that she is lying from the 'evil' in her heart.
When she meets Adam, Belinda is certain that her life is changed forever. Good looking and personable, he convinces Belinda to partake in a scam to convince an old woman that she is her long lost granddaughter.
When Belinda, now Kate, goes to the mansion with her new husband Adam and meets her 'grandmother', memories begin to surface. Is it possible that she actually is this long lost granddaughter? And how is her Grandmother so sick now? What is going on between Adam and Rachael, the nurse? What has she gotten herself in to?
There are a lot of layers in this story, intrigue, mystery, murder, love and a family history that will knock your socks off! Peggy Holloway has done a nice job of presenting Southern Greed at its greediest! Very nice read.
    A 3 hour read
As I am sure you are guessing from my title.. this took me about 3 hours throughout a day to read. My overall thought on the book is it is a decent romance book. I did find it a but harder to enjoy, as whole book is written in a past tense. There are parts that written in this manner made the area's more funny or quirky, but it also makes it hard to just "get into" the story. Being an avid reader, I find that when a story is catchy, pulls you in where you feel you are right there, either you are the character, or you are their unseen ghost, it makes a good book, a phenomenal one... this is just a good book. There are some sections that are not appropriate for young readers, the situations are a bit mature, but overall, the book is not a "steamy" romance. I also think that this book is lacking a bit of character building, and back story.. there are unanswered questions, and although I found the overall book good, I did not find it gripping where the lack of certain parts make me feel bereft. If you enjoy quick romances that you can put down and come back to, you should enjoy this book.
Romance-intrigue and Deception (CAN YOU SAY WINNER)
Southern Greed is a great story.

"The next bubble to burst will be the education bubble. Make no mistake about it, education is big business and, like other big businesses, it is in big trouble." -Professor Mark C. Taylor, Columbia University, New York Times, Opinion, July 12, 2009.
A young, salt-of-the-earth family is caught up in a cyclone of greed, after Dennis Winecoop accepts a position at Washington, D.C.'s Utopia University. Believing he was hired to advise graduate students in history, Professor Winecoop finds he is teaching a full schedule of "Murder 101." The first lesson, it seems, occurred just days before he was hired, when his predecessor was found grotesquely murdered in his bath. The intrigues of multiple murders are the catalysts that drive this dynamic and compelling tale to a shocking conclusion. The events and characters of Murder Cum Laude reveal the ugly reality of Washington politics and one man's aggressive efforts to uncover the truth.
A graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, author Bruce Zortman served as a top secret courier during the Korean Conflict. He was awarded a one-year Taussig Fellowship to the Free University in Berlin. As an NDEA Fellow, he earned his PhD with distinction from UCLA. His 25 years as a professional educator include positions at Santa Monica College and American University in Washington, D.C. He is the author of Hitler's Theater (1985), an acting textbook, scholarly articles and several produced plays. Presently, he is Commodore of the Tucson Sailing Club.

    Interesting story of higher education
A story of corruption that gets out of hand in a bureaucracy that does not function with the best interests of its purpose -education.
    Horrible!!
This is possibly the worst novel I have ever tried to listen to. After struggling hard to endure the first seven tedious hours, I finally pushed the flush handle and sent it to the trash can. There was not a single character that I cared about and kept wishing all of them would just be killed and my agony would end. Still it went on and on. The book was made even more horrible by a narrator who talked so fast my ear was always three words behind his droning. After over 500 Audible books, this is only one of two that gets one star across the board. One star is one too many!

Leave No Trace by Roxe Anne Peacock
Jessica is about to graduate High School but things are starting to fall apart. Her best friend and class valedictorian is missing and Jessica is going to be giving Sandy's speech instead. Then Jessica is told another classmate is missing. It can't be a coincidence that two of the graduating senior girls have disappeared can it? How does that happen? I don't want to tell anymore of the plot because I don't want to give any spoilers but it is a good one that includes some slithery critters and dark caverns.
Ms. Peacock has given us a very interesting, suspensful and intriguing mystery set in the southwestern United States in the Carlsbad Caverns area. The story is very well written with characters who are believable, sympathetic and compelling. Each time I read one of Ms. Peacock's novels I am impressed with her ability to bring her young adult characters to life.
The storyline is well developed and the characters' back stories make sense and are added appropriately to move the plot forward. With good dialogue that is realistic and a bit of romance that is age appropriate to its target audience, this story moves forward at a good pace and flow.
While this is a YA novel it is one that can be enjoyed by adults as well.
Read Time: Adult 4 to 5 hours, YA approx. 6 hours

    Leave No Trace
With me not being a lover of Mysteries. I loved the way Roxe Anne presented her book. I read it on my fire and I could not put it down. I was kept in suspense all the way through it. I kept thinking this person did it or that person did it. I was really surprised I read it all the way through. I am not big reader.
If you want a book to keep you on the edge of your seat then read Without a Trace.
Great book Roxe Anne. Keep up the good work. Can't wait to read more of your books
a well.written book that lingers in your mind after you finish it
this was the 1st book i read by this author.i realize it's for young adults but i as an adult also found it compelling.the setting in that small town in the southwest was well-drawn.the characters seemed so real,it was about genuine likeable people i could identify with.the plot draws you in.i won't spoil it but i was so worried about the lovely protagonist and i was torn between just reading a little at a time and devouring it in one session.i will definitely read another book by her.
    Easy, quick read. Enjoyed
Was surprised to find I enjoyed the book once the snakes were introduced. I have a phobia, but I was also anxious to find out the ending so continued on.
    Top Shelf
I have read and reread this book several times...it is on my top shelf of favorites!!!!! I love the writing style of author Roxe Ann Peacock!!

    Publisher's Summary:
What do Boston, Dublin, and Sierra Leone have in common? The movement of blood diamonds at enormous profit but grave human expense: mafia killings in Boston and Ireland and child enslavement and murder in Sierra Leone. And who is ensnared in the middle of all of this Michael Knight and Lex Devlin. Can they stop the enormously profitable trade of these tainted jewels? They must come between the Italian mafia in North Boston and the Irish mafia in South Boston including some remnants of the IRA in Ireland. They must also pit themselves against the enslaved and deadly child-army in Sierra Leone, who smuggle these diamonds into the mainstream for cash to buy weapons and drugs. At great personal risk, Knight and Devlin struggle to find a solution that satisfies this disparate combination of characters and, hopefully, dampens the diamond flow.

    More twists than a corkscrew
Once again the author kept me up far too late at night until I could finish this tale which has more twists than a corkscrew. This book proves the author spent far too much time teaching equity to law students, otherwise he could never have produced such a twisted tale. I have two minor quibbles with this book. In order to keep the reader guessing, the author relies too much on events that stretch the imagination and a super human hero with qualities that I have never found in the real world. Secondly, he doesn't spend enough time on the Boston legal scene which he captures brilliantly when he deals with it.
    Diamonds have lost their luster
Eye opening to say the least.
Another great novel by John Dobbyn
Once I picked it up I was unable to stop reading
Once again Knight finds danger yet always fighting for the good people. This book has suspense action and is just a great adventure but then you have to reflect on the injustice that is really happening in these third world countries and you applaud that this novel can possibly shed some international light and possibly find some solutions to these horrors
    Dobbyn has done it again!
I've read all his books and I believe he's the next best selling author. I suggest you read each book in the order of publication, since they are somewhat chronological.
The only problem is that I must now wait for his next release. The author thoroughly researches the subject, which I realize takes time. Patience is a small price given the in-depth subject matter provided in each his last four books,
The luck of the Irish to you, Mr. Dobbyn, on your future books!
    More than just a thriller
Some books keep you on the edge of your chair, breathless, hardly able to restrain your need to find out what happens next and if the good guys win. Other books widen your view of the world, teaching you that in some "faraway places with strange-sounding names," all is not well, and awakening that part of you that would like to make the world a better place. Jack Dobbyn's latest (and best) Knight and Devlin novel does both of these things. DEADLY DIAMONDS is both thrilling and inspiring ... and should be on everyone's reading list.

Very well written, resonates with me.
Quintessentially Australian, and not trying to be Hollywood superstar stuff. Likeable narrator, comic plot, underplayed drama. Careful if you read it on public transport - you might miss your stop. I laughed out loud more than once.
The hero climbs another notch in the labour party ranks
Once again we have the hero climbing the slippery slopes of the labour party machine written with great wit. I laughed out loud many times
So Near Yet So Far Away
A word of warning to non-Australian readers, although written in English, the Australian vernacular in this book is used often and with wild abandon. Before reading the book, it would be wise to brush up on your Aussie slang, lest you get left behind. A quick test is provided at the end of this review to see if you're up to it.
In case you want to brave it without fortifying yourself with the lingo, err...language, here's a rundown as to what the book's about. Fair dinkum!
It's 1990 and the city of Melbourne is making a bid for the 1996 Olympic Games, and things are looking very promising. As far as the Bid Committee is concerned, they're a shoo-in, with only one possible cloud on the horizon. They want to ensure that the aboriginal people are on board when the IOC delegates hit town. So Murray Whelan is enlisted to keep things quiet on the aboriginal front. A simple job as far as he's concerned, it should be money for jam and then back to his job as advisor to the Minister for Water Supply.
And so it was until a young aboriginal athlete is bashed to death, and pretty soon, the whole bid starts to become jeopardised. As fast as Murray tries to fix the problems, the more they seem to crop up with the problems becoming more outlandish and, at times, amusing.
As we all know, the Melbourne bid for the 1996 Olympic Games failed and this is a humorous suggestion as to a contributing factor to it's failure.
Oh yes, and here's my test to see how hard or easy it will be to understand the language: "Take a squiz at this book, she's a real corker, fair dinkum. You'd be a real drongo to miss it and probably about as popular as a blowie at a barbie .So garn, give it a burl."
    What a HAPPY ACCIDENT!
I came up with 'Nice Try' without knowing that I was looking for it: I found a copy at a yard sale. Needless to say I was "hooked" on Shane Maloney, and set out to get all of his books, which I did. My only regret is that I have read them all. All I have to look forward to now is another Maloney book, or old age and a bad memory so I can reread them!! The Aussie government is a bit different from ours in the USA, but it's not hard to catch on.

Placement of alien alternative energy source.
Jace Kelton and Madison Marro meet while investigating the deaths of their respective fathers. Their parents were on a search for an unlimited supply of alternative fuels to replace the dwindling stocks of fossil fuels. The search touches on mysteries of ancient peoples; the pyramids of Egypt, Easter Island, and the Bermuda Triangle. They are pursued by a force of Chinese warriors who have heard about the possibility of an alternative fuel and want it for their country.
Maddy and Jace in their search stumble upon a mysterious Interstellar force that probably placed the alternative energy source long ago and left it for humankind when they have reached a certain evolutionary stage. They also find a love between them that helps them to overcome the obstacles in their path to getting the source. A fast moving novel, well done with a more than interesting thesis to keep the reader constantly involved in the action.
