Too sweet for my taste

I prefer books with more backstory... Weather historical, suspense, drama, erotica or comedy, I nod more than boy meets girl, boy likes girl, girl likes boy, they get together, the end.

It may simply be a matter of taste. So I only removed one star.

what a read!

Being a fan of MMA, I was happy to find this book. I read it real quick - the characters were super easy to imagine. You gotta pick this one up!

Fluffy

It's super short. It felt like the whole book was just filled with fluff. It had potential to be a good one but the storyline just wasn't there and there characters were not very developed. The instalove killed it for me. They were pretty much moving in together after only knowing each other for week. Just didn't feel very realistic. This one just wasn't for me.

It's that good!

The HIDDEN series by Colleen Vanderlinden takes place in modern day Detroit. The cast of kickass characters include demons, vampires, humans, imps, shifters, Greek gods, witches, furies and others. FOREVER NIGHT is a more intimate look at one of those characters, Shanti. Shanti is a young vamp who was turned at an early age against her will.

One of the reasons the author, although new, is a few steps above many other authors, is her character development. You come to love them, hate them and maybe even love them again. This gem of a novella about Shanti will only make me love her more as the series continues with the soon to be released STRIFE. I hope there will be many more novellas in this series future as so many of the characters deserve it.

I highly reccommend reading the first three novels in the HIDDEN series and then pouncing on FOREVER NIGHT

I am counting down the days until the release of STRIFE later this month (May, 2014).

Fantastic addition to Hidden Series!

Colleen's Hidden Series is one of the best series I've ever read, and this Shanti story is a perfect side story/alternative POV. Colleen somehow has the ability to make you want one thing for someone so badly, rip that dream to shreds, and have you even happier with her unseen next outcome. I have secret selfish hopes the Hidden Series never ends because these characters are forever apart of my heart. I highly recommend this book and series to anyone that loves PR/UF books!

I can't get enough of the Hidden series. Colleen Vanderlinden has created so many great characters. You will love them all, but always find a favorite (wink wink). Shanti is one of those characters and I love hearing more stories in her perspective. I'm hoping that Colleen will continue to give us great characters and stories in this world. Thank you!

Finding Your True Self In the Shadow World!

Wow...I absolutely LOVED this story! This story touched me in a way that no other story has before. It made me cry and it was a very emotional story. Anya Monroe has written a masterpiece and I highly recommend everyone should give this story a listen. I enjoyed the characters especially Blakely. He was a strong character who didn't have any trouble saying what was on his mind. Clara was my favorite character out of them all. My heart ached for her and I could see exactly why Clara wanted to go to the Sheen. I really think if everyone could go there they would. As for Tate, I think I fell in love with him at the end of the story. He's definitely filled with surprises. This is my favorite book that I've listened to by Anya on audio before.

Narrator Randi Larson did a perfect job! I can't recall ever listening to this narrator before but I will be looking for other audios that she has narrated. She brought so much life into the story and made it feel so real. She did a great job with distinguishing each characters voice and accents. I didn't have any trouble with identifying each character who spoke throughout the story. Overall, I give this story and the performance a perfect 5 star review.

YA romance and other world travel - bravo

Well done! I am a mature adult (49 yrs) who enjoys YA books. This is an engaging fantasy novel that is an easy, enjoyable and uplifting listen. Youthful, but not childish. Just what I want in YA fiction.

What made the experience of listening to The Shadow and the Sheen the most enjoyable?

I was given a free copy by the author in return for an honest review.

Hearing such an amazing tale spoken as it was made me think of old oral storytelling traditions. Sure this book is in print as well; but having it told to you makes it feel some much more real.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I loved Blakely, honestly I was sort of shipping him and Clara. He's such a wry fellow; hardworking, ambitious, yet pragmatic and a bit overconfident. I liked how though he was argumentative, you could always tell he wasn't trying to fight. IOt's just the way he expressed himself in the Shadow.

Have you listened to any of Randi Larsons other performances before? How does this one compare?

Amateurish effort ruins a decent plot

This book has a decent plot BUT it is poorly executed. There are typos everywhere. It is also filled with Characters that are not well written so the seem shallow. The pace of the book is very uneven. I would suggest the author hire an editor and fix this book.

Don't bother.

God awful, I only read the whole thing because I was hoping it would get better. It didn't, this is nothing but a penthouse article. Bad plot, no real shifter information. Like a true wolf shifter couldn't have smelled the difference in the brides. Typos everywhere leading me to think that neither the editor or author knows how to use spell check. If you are thinking of purchasing or buying don't bother, the information about the novel tells the story. The sex scenes are not even any good.

enjoyable

Love with staying power

I just read all three books. I couldn't stop reading them. I had to see what happened next. They have a happy ending but it wasn't enough. I don't know it just wasn't enough. I highly recommend these books.

Love does sometimes make us fools

This fourth part of the story was definitely worth buying and reading. The drama continues, the pack shows up and there us a fight! It was a really good way to wrap up the story. I really enjoyed reading it!

A really good and fun fantasy book

What did you love best about Heart of Stone?

Quite a sweet story. Almost like turning Lord of the Rings into a fairytale. Great characters who have personal journeys which are interesting and all add up to a great story.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Heart of Stone?

I like the way that Sophie develops. She's hard to like to begin with but you see that everything is stacked against her and you begin to enjoy her journey into a better personal place.

What does Dara Kramer bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

Very good narration. I think that she opened up Sophie for me and there's a dreamlike quality to the narration that makes this a great fantasy book to listen to.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I'd rather not give anything away as this is a story that you should listen too or read. I think that the characters within it a good, the story itself is a brilliant journey that I really enjoyed.

Heart of Stone = Coldness

Heart of Stone is a very unusual story. Sophie is not a very likeable character. She takes advantage of her friend Henri who would provide her with champagne and bonbons. When a fortune teller foretells of her death, Sophie flees from her village.

Sophie meets Tristan, a Gem Tracker. Tristan is on a quest to locate the legendary gems to save the country of Gemmes. There were several times that Tristan could have abandoned Sophie but he doesn't. Sophie is also selfish to give the gems that Henri gave her to Tristan. Tristan recognized the gems that Sophie gave him and has only one more gem to locate. With a cruel king looking for the gems, Sophie and Tristan is on the runs.

Sophie's coldness has gotten to me. She didn't care about anyone except herself. Even though she did felt something with Tristan, she couldn't really feel. As the story continues, readers/listeners will realize why Sophie is the way she is. The title of the story is indeed the right title for this story.

The narrator Dara Kramer did make the story tolerable to listen to. If I was reading the book, I would have stopped less than a fourth of the book.
