How would you like a job where you might not go to bed until 2am and then suddenly switch to one where you get up at the same time? Ryan Baker mad such a move in 2019 when the CBS affiliate wanted him to leave his job as its main sportscaster to become a morning news host. Baker accepted just the way his long time competitor and friend Corey McPherrin did at FOX 32 several years earlier.It may be a different genre but Baker claimed his basics of his job really didn’t change. He’s a story teller and he told plenty here including how his alma mater, the University of Illinois, exited the NCAA Basketball tournament early for a third straight year. Baker was once its basketball manager. On the contrary, he discusses it and in depth in this very enlightening part two of our podcast.Benetti never wanted his disability to be a reason for his success but it’s a constant reminder of the adversities he’s faced from childhood on. He’s everywhere! Turn on a game on TV or tune in one on radio and you’re bound to hear Jason Benetti. His career has skyrocketed and with good reason: he’s very good at what he does but when I mentioned that to him he said the reason is the radio department at Homewood Flossmoor High School in suburban Chicago and the radio station at Syracuse University.
“I was a good student in grammar school, probably too polite at times. There was really no edge except I would go home and my parents and I would watch Robin Williams and George Carlin and Dennis Miller and Dennis Leary. I always appreciated really good comedians.”
The voice of the team he grew up loving, the White Sox, Benetti also works for Fox sports calling major league baseball, college basketball and so much more.
In part one of this thoroughly enjoyable podcast, Benetti touches many bases including his comedic side ( he grew up loving Robin Williams, George Carlin and Saturday Night Live among others, his law degree and expresses his great respect for analysts Steve Stone and Bill Walton.
in part two Benetti gets deep into his difficult childhood and dealing with Cerebral Palsy.
