Do you know who the public address announcer for the NCAA Final Four is? It’s the same PA announcer for the Chicago White Sox, Blackhawks, DePaul, Illinois football, the Big Ten tournament, the Chicago Marathon and more. Gene Honda isn’t a household name but he doesn’t have to be.

But for more than 35 years his voice has been heard winter, spring, summer and fall. Honda though, realizes he’s just an accessory “No one paid for a ticket to come to that event just top heat me.”

But Honda is heard, and seen by many He’s also a pitchman for PBS’s pledge drives and has actually been cast in two movies.

A native of Chicago and a graduate of the University of Illinois, Honda has had the distinct honor of being the only man to be a PA announcer for a World Series, an all star game, a Stanley Cup Final, Frozen Final Four an NCAA final four and a marathon!. But perhaps the most exciting event he was the PA announcer for was Illinois’s miraculous comeback in a regional final game against Arizona in 2005.

The game was at the then Rosemont Horizon in suburban Chicago. The Fighting Illini made up a 15 point deficit with 5 minutes left in the game to advance to the final four. Honda said he simply had to focus and did not know why the building was shaking. But he clearly liked the outcome.

Honda is equipped with a great sense of humor and an infectious laugh. He also play team trivia weekly admitting he’s terrible in geography but is proficient at pop culture history albeit, before 1990! Honda continues to provide his voice for over 200 events a year and now in his mid 60’s has no plans of slowing down.

The name Caray is like royalty in baseball broadcasting. Three generations have graced the booth from the bombastic and tremendously popular Harry Caray, who called games for the St. Louis Cardinals, Oakland A’s and then both Chicago teams (first the White Sox and then the Cubs).

His son Skip became a household name in the Atlanta where he spent his entire career calling Braves’ games. And then there was his grandson, Chip, currently one of the voices of the Braves. Chip has carved out a wonderful career including jobs as the voice of the Orlando Magic and then a 7 year run replacing Harry Caray who died just several weeks before the two would have worked together.

During his interview with George Ofman on “Tell me a story I don’t know” Caray recalls those first few months as the lead voice of the Cubs in 1998. “A lot of people didn’t like Harry and a lot of those people took out that angst and anger on me.” But with the help of expert analyst Steve Stone (Yes that Steve Stone who was a guest on this podcast and is still plying his trade with the White Sox), Caray found his rhythm and eventually won back some of those doubters.

He was behind the mike for what is statically the greatest game ever pitched: Kerry Wood’s one hit, 20 strikeout performance against the Houston Astros in May of 1998, just a month after Caray befgan his 7 year run with the Cubs. That same season he along with the rest of the nation was riveted by the homer dual between Mark MGwire and Sammy Sosa.

But Caray’s run in Chicago ended in a bitter divorce in Chicago and since then, he’s managed to continue an excellent career.

Could there be a 4th generation of Caray’s behind the mike? Chip’s twin sons are headed in that direction and you’ll Hera him discuss that and plenty more in this entertaining and memorable interview.

She loves sports. She also loves food and wine. Is there a future podcast combining all three? Peggy Kusinski already has a successful podcast with one of her sons aptly titled “The sportscaster and her son.”

And she already made her mark on Chicago sports thanks to an award winning career including a dozen Emmys. Her vast knowledge and ability to convey that through her TV sportscasts and reporting earned her the respect she so greatly deserved.

But in 2016, Kusinski walked away from TV, burned out after years of travel, heartache and trying to be closer to her family. Yet she has remained vibrant through her podcast. So who knows what the future will bring during her wide ranging interview with George Ofman on “Tell me a story I don’t know?!"

Kusinski delves into her past and how she had to walk through some hoops of fire to gain success. That, and her insatiable love of food and wine. She is a discerning connoisseur. “I cry when Michelin star chefs cook for me” said Kusinski who added “I’m a foodie wanna be."

What she is though is a tough, intrepid and fair minded journalist who proved it doesn’t matter if your a man or woman, what matters is what you can contribute and Kusinski has done that and then some.

His staccato style and high decibel descriptions of big plays are legendary as is the man himself. Marv Albert is retiring after the NBA’s East finals following a 55 year career. NBA commissioner over Adam Silver aptly described Albert as “The soundtrack” adding there is no voice more close associated with the league. Albert turns 80 on June 12th.

Albert’s conversation with George Ofman on “Tell me a story I don’t know” includes his thoughts on retirement and how the pandemic gave him a rehearsal for what that might be in store?

Season two of “Tell me a story I don’t know" opens with one of the most unique broadcasters of our era. Over the last 40 plus years few have accomplished being both a prominent and successful sports anchor/reporter and news commentator.

Keith Olbermann is the rare breed who conquered both worlds; at ESPN where he was paired with Dan Patrick to form a revolutionary duo who intellectually and wise cracked their way through Sports Center for 5 wild and emphatic years. Just four years later, Olbermann switched gears and hosted "Countdown" on MSNBC, a pulsating hour of news and commentary laced with some very strong and controversial opinions.

It’s hard to remember anyone hitting such high notes in the rating charts in both media genre’s the way Olbermann has.

During his entertaining interview on "Tell me a story I don’t know", Olbermann recounts his time with Patrick, how he came this close to joining a Chicago radio station, his great affection for Mickey Mantle, his distaste for baseball’s commissioner and his new rules and why he has left so many jobs.
