  • LAB-342-2024 Harley-Davidson Police Road Glide | NAMOA 2023

    Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com

In this episode, we talk about the 2024 Harley-Davidson Police Road Glide. For years, law enforcement has used either the Electra Glide or the Road King. Earlier in the year I was lucky enough to see a prototype of the Road Glide Police model earlier in the year at the North American Motor Officers Association (NAMOA) training conference. In July, we attended the Harley-Davidson 120th Anniversary celebration in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where Harley announced the Road Glide will be available to law enforcement agencies in 2024. I tested the Road Glide Police model thoroughly on the NAMOA skills courses. I give you my honest review of the Road Glide as a police model. You can watch my review video of the 2024 Harley-Davidson Police Road Glide HERE.

NAMOA is a non-profit organization concerned with police motorcycle training in the Pacific Northwest. NAMOA promotes traffic safety through education and awareness to police motors and civilian riders; to lobby for motorcycle safety laws and police motor training; and provides police motor training officers, training programs, police motor selection processes, and general information for law enforcement agencies and law enforcement training academies. The annual NAMOA training conference brings together local businesses and related national industries with the community and motorcycle police officers throughout the Northwest and beyond.

The police agency I work for hosted the 2023 NAMOA training conference. I talk about the course design and setup. The officer who created the course last time for us did not keep a diagram of the course. Luckily, I'm a YouTuber and I had footage of the course. It was still a challenge to recreate some of the courses we wanted to use again.

  • LAB-341-Touratech Adventure Rally Experience | Testing the Pan America After 2 Years in the Wild

    Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com

In this podcast episode, we talk about the Touratech Rally and testing the Harley-Davidson Pan America. The Touratech Rally is an annual adventure motorcycle rally held in Plain, WA, and is organized by Touratech USA, a well-known manufacturer, and distributor of adventure motorcycle equipment and accessories.

The Touratech Rally provides a great opportunity for adventure motorcyclists and enthusiasts to come together, share experiences, attend workshops, and participate in various activities related to adventure riding. The rally typically features guided rides, skills clinics, camping, vendor displays, and product demonstrations.

Participants have the chance to explore the beautiful Pacific Northwest region's scenic backroads and off-road trails, offering a fantastic backdrop for adventure riding. Riders can meet like-minded individuals, get inspired by seasoned adventurers, and learn from experts in the field during the event.

Since event details may change from year to year, it's essential to check the official Touratech USA website or other reliable sources for the most current information on the Touratech Rally in Plain, WA, if it is still being held after my last update.

Harley-Davidson wanted to fly me down to Mojave earlier in the year to get me back on the Pan America. As it turned out, we already planned to go to the Touratech Rally. Harley had a fleet of demo bikes there and they hooked me up with one for the day. I had the opportunity to talk with Terry Rumpel who is the Engineering Manager for the Pan America. I also was lucky enough to go out for part of the day with Justin Cleiter who is the Touring Manager for the Pan America. Now that is a great job!

So, what is my prediction for the future of the Pan America? I have to preface this by saying that I have no inside information related to my prediction. I'm basing my prediction based on my knowledge of the motorcycle industry and the fact that the mid-weight adventure motorcycle market is blowing up. My prediction is that Harley will come out with a mid-weight Pan America in the near future! Perhaps with the Revolution Max 975. We will see...

  • LAB-340-Harley-Davidson 2023 CVOs | My Trip To Monterey for CVOs and King Of The Baggers

    Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com

I recently traveled to Monterey, CA to test ride and review the new 2023 Harley-Davidson CVO Street Glide and Road Glide. There is way more than meets the eye and these motorcycles are completely redesigned, both aesthetically and in performance. Lurch and I break down all the specs of the Harley-Davidson 2023 CVOs. These 2023 Harley CVOs have a brand new Milwaukee-Eight 121 ci VVT (variable valve timing) engine, redesigned fairings, controls, handlebars, intake tract, air intake, water-cooled heads, radiator, electric fan, 12.3" infotainment system, new front and rear Showa suspension with preload and rebound damping adjustments, new radial-mounted 4-piston Brembo brakes, larger brake rotors, new wheels, LED lighting, and new storage, just to name a few things.

I was able to watch the King of the Baggers races at Laguna Seca. It was awesome to witness the sound of the big V-twin engines screaming by. If you haven't watched any of the races, you need to check it out. You can watch them on MototAmerica.

In this episode, I tell you everything you need to know about these new 2023 Harley-Davidson Street Glide and Road Glide CVOs. I also give you my thoughts and opinions while riding these bikes along the California coast. I answer many of the questions you may have.

One of the biggest questions is; are all these massive changes to the 2023 Harley CVOs going to show up on the 2024 regular touring models? I asked Harley representatives this very question, but they declined to answer. My belief that is we will see the changes in 2024 or 2025.

  • LAB-337-AIM Lightforce Hydraulic Clutch Slave Cylinder | Is It Worth It?

    Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com

In this episode, we discuss the AIM Lightforce Slave Cylider for the hydraulic clutch on your Harley-Davidson. Both cable and hydraulic clutches can be effective on Harley-Davidson motorcycles, and the choice between the two often comes down to personal preference and riding style. Cable clutches are typically easier to adjust, and they are generally less expensive to repair or replace. They also tend to offer more feedback to the rider, which can be beneficial for those who prefer a more tactile connection with the motorcycle.

SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE

On the other hand, hydraulic clutches offer a smoother and more consistent feel, which can be advantageous for riders who want a more refined and precise riding experience. They also tend to require less effort to operate, which can be beneficial for riders who experience fatigue or discomfort with a cable clutch. Ultimately, the choice between a cable and hydraulic clutch on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle comes down to personal preference, and riders should choose the type of clutch that best suits their riding style and needs.

    Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com

I recently taught a Motor Officer Basic class here in the Yakima, Washington area with students from several agencies in which students complete many police motors skills drills. I get a lot of questions from the Law Abiding Biker community about these police motors skills drills. In this podcast, I'm joined by Lurch and we discuss the recent class as well as the successes and the debacles. Officers who've attended a Motor Officer Basic class will tell you it's some of the hardest training they've ever taken. It is physically and mentally demanding.

SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE

We had students riding Harley-Davidsons and BMWs. Both bikes hold up well to the punishment they receive during the training. Both have their positives and negatives. I discuss this in detail during the podcast. Common items that break are clutch levers, foot pegs, windshields, and kickstand springs.

We also talk about drills that civilian riders can do to improve their riding. Some examples are learning to work the "gray" area of your clutch, using your head and eyes correctly to make tight turns, and practicing emergency braking. These are diminishing skills that all riders should routinely practice.

"With the introduction of the all-new CVO Street Glide and CVO Road Glide, we've completely reimagined two of Harley-Davidson's most iconic motorcycles and redefined the boundaries of CVO in the process," said Jochen Zeitz, Chairman, President and CEO of Harley-Davidson. "By rethinking these two models from the ground up, we are ushering in a new era of innovation, design, engineering, and technology, while expanding the definition of Harley-Davidson CVO and taking the Grand American Touring experience to another level. The new CVO Street Glide and CVO Road Glide break the mold and reset the bar for the pinnacle Harley-Davidson riding experience."

According to Harley-Davison, the all-new batwing fairing featured on the 2023 CVO Street Glide model offers an evolved profile exhibiting a faster overall gesture and a more swept windshield. Undercuts beneath the headlamp are more pronounced, and turn indicators are integrated as opposed to external units. While the iconic "T" shape of the batwing fairing is retained, the silhouette and graphic outline have been modernized with updated surfacing, and the new fairing integrates design with the fuel tank, side covers, and saddlebags. The "Omega-shaped" signature light provides instant recognition of the new model and turns signals are seamlessly integrated into the left and right lamp elements.

The all-new CVO Road Glide model fairing presents an aggressive update to the MY22 "sharknose" design and integrates with the fuel tank, side covers, and saddlebags. The single LED headlamp has a wide, horizontal shape, yet appears to have twin elements, recalling a key feature of all previous Road Glide® model fairings and turn signal lamps integrated within the outer portions of the signature lighting.

    Both models feature:

    • Dramatic new visual designs
    • New Milwaukee-Eight® VVT 121 engine
    • All-new suspension
    • All-new infotainment system
    • Offered with two paint/finish options

  • LAB-334-Harley-Davidson Audio Powered By Rockford Fosgate | Full System Review

    Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com

In this podcast, I'm joined by Lurch and we discuss and review the complete Harley-Davidson Audio Powered by Rockford Fosgate system we installed on a 2015 Harley-Davidson Road Glide Special. The system consisted of two amplifiers, fairing speakers, saddlebag lid speakers, and two 10-inch subwoofers. We discuss the pros and potential cons of this system so you can decide if it, or part of it, is for you.

The first thing to note is we tested the system with a decibel meter and it hit at and above the level of other premium systems we installed in the past. Keep in mind that motorcycle audio differs greatly from car audio. In a car, you're in an enclosed space with the speakers. On a motorcycle, the audio is going out to your environment, and at higher speeds, you're leaving the sound of rear speakers behind you. With that said the saddlebag lid speakers are designed so the speakers are pointed at the rider which may help a bit at highway speeds.

So, let's talk specifically about the subwoofers. They are very loud when stopped or at low speed in town. I was honestly supposed how much sound/bass they produced considering the small enclosures and limited air movement. Harley-Davidson did an excellent job of designing the woofers. They slide in and out of your saddlebag easily so you can have storage room when needed.

The system is controlled through an App that allows you to adjust the sound in much finer detail than the Boom Box head unit alone. You can adjust the volume of the subwoofers independently from the other speakers. There are several preset EQ curves and the availability to create a custom EQ curve. We found the Highway EQ curve helped to hear the sound at freeway speeds because it focuses on the high and mid-range sounds. The Boom Box GT units require a flash from your local Harley-Davidson dealer. The GTS units however do not require a flash.

Our final thoughts are this system is well-built with quality components. It is as loud or louder than the other premium systems we've installed. The installation is essentially plug-and-play, and easy to install with our installation video. You won't be disappointed if you get the Harley-Davidson Audio Powered By Rockford Fosgate system.

  • LAB-333-Can The Indian Sport Chief Compete With Harley's Low Rider S?

    Official Website: www.lawabidingbiker.com

I saw that Indian came out with the 2023 Sport Chief and I said to myself, "Hey, Indian made a Harley Low Rider S". Well, it's clearly their answer to compete with Harley in that category of bike anyways. I had to take a deep look at this bike and break it down for you and give you my thoughts. How does the Indian Sport Chief match up to the Harley Low Rider S? I really needed to know.

I've seen some trying to compare the Sport Chief to the Harley Low Rider ST and I wholeheartedly disagree. I test-rode and reviewed the Low Rider ST last year in Santa Barbara, CA and it's more in the category of sport touring. It has a very large fairing and windshield, an available dash stereo system with speakers, and hard saddlebags. The Sport Chief is more in the category of a sport cruiser with a very small fairing and windshield, no in-dash stereo system or speakers, and no hard saddlebags, just like the Lowrider S.

This video is not about the old Harley vs. Indian BS conversations. Honestly, those sorts of attitudes just muddy the real conversation and facts. Understand, that we ride Harleys, Indians, and other metric bikes here on this channel and support all makes and models of motorcycles. Remember, competition in the motorcycle marketplace is GOOD and benefits all motorcycle enthusiasts. It pushes companies to put out their best products.

We could really go back and forth on what things the Sport Chief or Low Rider S has that the other doesn't and price out adding a particular item or feature on. But, at the end of the day, we've found that if you make these bikes almost exactly the same with parts and features they are within a couple of hundred dollars of each other. I love my Lowrider S, but I would not think twice about owning the Sport Chief if I had extra money to throw around. I really want to ride this bike and see what it's all about.
