Az 1848-as forradalomra utalva Petőfi híres forradalmi költeményét is felolvasták. A szobor darabjait ma ereklyeként őrzik a forradalom túlélői.

    October 23
October 23 is the youngest of Hungary's three national holidays; it is the memorial of the 1956 Revolution and also the anniversary of the 1989 declaration of the Hungarian republic.
The Revolution of 1956 is one of the key events of 20th century Hungarian history. It was a fight against the Stalinist dictatorship and terror that characterized the 40s and 50s and also against the Soviet oppression. It started as a peaceful students' demonstration on the 23rd of October in Budapest and Debrecen. Reaching back to the 1848 revolution, the students read Sándor Petőfi's revolutionary poems. The people who gathered together spontaneously started cutting out the middle part of the Hungarian flag containing the communist coat of arms; the flag with the hole quickly became the symbol of the uprising. After this, the crowd walked to the square in front of the Parliament and toppled the almost ten-meter-high Stalin statue. Pieces of the statue are kept as relics by many of the survivors of the revolution. During the night the resistance from the communist government and their firing upon unarmed crowds ignited an armed uprising, the Hungarian National Radio was taken and the military helped the revolutionists tear down the red star from the building.
On the second day of the revolution Soviet troops entered the capital and the desperate fighting erupted in Budapest and other smaller cities, killing many. Even though th [...]

Tom: Segítene végre valaki? Már több, mint fél órája várok..
Eladó: Elnézést kérek, Szombaton mindig ekkora a forgalom.
Tom: Akkor hívja ide a felettesét!

Tom: Will somebody help me? I've been waiting for more than half an hour.
Salesperson: I'm sorry, Saturday is always so busy. How can I help?
Tom: I bought this coffee maker yesterday, but the water tank leaks.
    Salesperson: Maybe it is overfilled?
Tom: You can't be serious... This is a manufacturing defect or the cheap quality of the plastic.
Salesperson: This is probably the only product which has a defect. I can replace it with the same one.
Tom: No way! Give me a brand which is not defective! Or reimburse the purchase price!
Salesperson: The warranty is only valid for exchange.
Tom: Then call your manager! I have it in black and white that I get my money back!
Salesperson: Just a moment, I'll see what I can do.
Tom: I'll wait as long as I have to, but I'm not going anywhere without my money.
Salesperson: Take this ticket to cashier number two and ask for a refund.
